Nope. He stands to lose a lot of money. Another consideration about leaving this year. He hasn't been able to stay healthy. That tends to play a little role in NFL Evals. The tweet doesn't do much in clarifying anything. You have an NFL future kid. Don't get me wrong. I see a highly athletic DB playing. He is really good playing the run sideline to sideline, but sometimes takes some odd angles in the middle of the field. He has very poor ball skills and tends to be beat over the top sometimes even with terrific football speed.

He's a possible 1st or high 2nd round guy. Just not this year.

He would be an idiot leaving right now. He's a 1st round talent with a 4-5 round pedigree.

Do you know how the committee works?  Round 1, 2, or go back to school.  If that tweet isn't wordsmithing or creative license he got a good grade.

Shack had a high ankle surgery in 2017 with a recovery time of 4 months..... Not sure if the injury is the same though.  Shack's was described as "likely a Tightrope fixation for ankle syndesmosis, which “damages the soft tissue structures between the tibia and fibula and causes these bones to separate... The TightRope system anchors the ends of the tibia and fibula together with a braided polyethylene cord, rather than with a rigid surgical screw, to restore the original position of the bones and to allow for proper healing.”

Yeah, the surgery for a high ankle (syndesmosis) sprain (ligament tear) is typically a "tightrope." Through a small incision, a cable is passed to tether the two lower ends of the bones of the lower leg as the syndesmosis should do naturally. Over time, the body heals the torn ligament well enough that the stresses of athletic participation are not too much for the (now no longer unaided) cable. There is a wide range of degrees of injury and rates of healing. Some surgeons are returning guys to sport as early as 2 months.

TLDR: Summer is certainly a reasonable goal for return

Why do you think they waited this long to perform the surgery?  Did they wait to see if it would heal on it’s own with rest?

Probably so. He may not have let on how much it was bothering him in-season so his “clock” of non operative care may not have started until late. If the MRI isn’t impressive, his surgeon may not have felt going straight to surgery was wise. Even the smallest surgery can go horribly wrong, unlikely as that is.

Quote

Tom Herman told Horns247 following his Wednesday lecture at the Angelo Football Clinic at San Angelo’s Junell Center that along with Caden Sterns going through summer workouts without restrictions, the Longhorns are about officially welcome Brandon Jones back into the fold in a full-tilt capacity.

Similar to Sterns missing most of spring practice after undergoing surgery to take care of a lingering knee issue that forced him to miss the team’s Allstate Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, Jones went under the knife to take care of a recurring ankle issue that kept him on the shelf for a total of four games in 2018.

Herman said Jones and defensive lineman Rob Cummins (knee) have been running with the team and could be free of restrictions by the end of the weekend.

“They’re doing almost everything with some slight modifications,” Herman said. “We think by Monday both of those guys will be without any modifications.”
