Teacher conference with your wife yesterday because daughter Suzie can't seem to stay off her phone during class. Your wife says she will speak to Suzie about this issue. Today Suzie's phone rings and she asks if she can step outside and take a call from her mother.19 points

My wife is a teacher. She teaches a high school Functional Living Skills class. That is the severe Special Ed class for thenyone wondering. She started in 2012. She will make just over $40k this year which includes a $1k special ed stipend. In her class she has 12 students with 2 aids to support her. I could tell you some absolutely crazy stories about stuff that has happened in her class. Most of it you wouldn't believe. To spare time I will only share one though. She has a student right now that is very violent. He punches himself in the face multiple times a day. Worse though, is that he charges after and hits the teachers in the room. They have gotten good at avoiding this by now thankfully. He will charge at my wife 5 or 6 times a day. His mom drops him off at 7 and picks him up at 4. He clearly can't roam the halls so my wife has to be there that whole time. Awhile back he charged at my wife while she was helping another student, he hit her knocking her down into a desk face first. He was restrained, cops called, escorted off campus and parents picked him up. The next day he was back in her class like nothing happened because they couldn't punish him in any way for fear of lawsuits. The bruising was so bad that someone pulled her aside later and asked if I was abusing her. On top of dealing with all of that my wife has done so much to improve her student's lives. She has paid out of pocket for them to be able to participate in special Olympics. She coaches the special olympics on Saturdays. She does a ton, all without complaining about anything. They are many teachers just like her. Anyone bashing teachers and my wife can go to fucking hell. You are an ignorant fool.12 points

This isn't the trump thread, this is the AOC thread - stay on topic. Sidenote observation (not my moderator opinion): Can't you guys just fucking leave party politics out of this shit and discuss issues/people? I swear reading this disaster of a thread is the reason that this place has turned into an "echo chamber" all you guys do is argue for the sake of argument - IMHO don't fucking post unless you are open to being convinced of another position other than your own. It isn't your fucking duty to convince all of the surlyhorns users on your god damned political agenda, but CR so fuck me right?9 points

I've been on my own since I was 19. Haven't taken a penny, except my parents paid for college. But I didn't take anything else other than the car they bought me for graduation. Just me, grit, gumption, my own bootstraps, and the down payment they provided for my house as a wedding present. The wedding was also a wedding present I guess. Now I'm a self made man in my family's business and I'm proud of that fact.8 points

There is adequate scholarships available to add 5 or 6 OL in the 2020 recruiting cycle. In a perfect five-year recruiting cycle (Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, Redshirt Freshmen, & Freshmen), I’m confident Herman and staff would like to see the following position numbers on scholarship: OFFENSE 1. QB – 4 (currently 3 - Ehlinger, Thompson, Johnson) 2. RB – 5 (currently 4 – Ingram, Young, Johnson, Whittington) Brown is an unknown 3. WR – 12 (currently 12 – Johnson, Duvernay, Burt, Eagles, Moore, Pouncey, Epps, Woodard, McCoy, Smith, Washington, Lewis) 4. TE – 4 (currently 5 – Brewer, Leitao, Liebrock, Wiley, Cummins) 5. OL – 17 (currently 15 – Cosmi, Braun, Shackelford, Okafor, Kerstetter, Angilau, Moore, Imade, Ghirmai, Hookfin, Jones, Johnson, Shepherd, Tyler, Urquidez) Hudson is an unknown 6. TOTAL Offense Scholarships = 42 (currently 39, not counting Brown & Hudson) DEFENSE 1. DL – 14 (currently 12 – Roach, Wilbon, Chisholm, Christmas-Giles, Jones, Coburn, Graham, Ojomo, Bimage, Warren, Sweat, Carson) 2. LB – 11 (currently 9 – Ossai, Adeoye, McCulloch, Vaughns, Floyd, Johnson, Mpagi, Gbenda, Tillman) Boyd is an unknown 3. DB -16 (currently 16 – Cook, Sterns, Jones, Green, Thompson, Foster, Boyce, Brown, Jamison, Overshown, Adimora, Watson, Caldwell, Estell, Owens, Duvernay) 4. TOTAL Defense Scholarships = 41 (currently 37, not counting Boyd) SPECIAL 1. K – 1 (currently 1 – Dicker) 2. P – 1 (currently 1 – Bujcevskii) 3. TOTAL Special Teams Scholarships = 2 (currently 2) T TOTAL CURRENT SCHOLARSHIPS = 78 (not including Hudson, Brown or Boyd So, by the numbers, the current roster is short a scholarship QB, RB, 2 OL, 2 DL, & 2 LBs. And there is one to many TEs. The OL is still two short even with the addition of Braun and Tyler. Braun and Shackelford are gone next year, so that is four spots open for OL in the 2020 recruiting cycle. It is not difficult to see one or more OL underclassmen on the current roster moving on due to attrition - medical, grades, graduation, etc. I do not see Herman having any problem taking 5 or 6 OL in 2020, even with the addition of Tyler whom may very well be a "project." In addition, anyone notice the excellent Preferred Walk-on program Herman has started in order to address some holes like LB? Following are Preferred Walk-ons I’m aware of: 1. QB – 1 (Sam Sexton) 2. RB – 1 (Jarrett Smith) 3. WR – 1 (Parker Alford) 4. TE – (Austin Hill, Nathan Hatter) 5. OL – (Chad Wolf) 6. DL – none 7. LB – 4 (Luke Brockermeyer, Parker Bayouth, Jett Bush, Jake Ehlinger) 8. DB – 3 (Doak Wilson, Christian Tschauner, Myles Mass) 9. LS – 1 (Justin Mader) If anyone knows of any PWO I did not include please add them on this thread. Thanks.8 points

Carbonara I still have some tweaking to do on this. Seems so simple, but I still don't have it quite right. I'm at a "pretty good, not great" level right now. Started with some fresh pancetta which ended up being really rich. I think the stuff I bought was pretty stout and I probably used a little too much. Might try it with guanciale next time. Cubed that up using about half of what's pictured above. Probably could have gone with about 1/4 or 1/3 and the cubes could have been a little smaller. Ratios in the end were definitely a little off. Little too heavy on the meat regardless of what kind. Only other ingredients are EVOO, eggs, pepper, pasta and parmigiano reggiano. Went with 2 eggs and one egg yolk. Again, that ratio didn't end up perfect, was a little too eggy for my liking. Whisked them together with some parmigiano reggiano and pepper to create the sauce. Get the pancetta browning in a few tablespoons of EVOO while the pasta cooks. Good and browned up and heat reduced. Add pasta and toss together with the pancetta. I used bucatini because I like it, but any long skinny noodle will do. Again, for ratio purposes, I think this needed about double the noodles. I used a half a package and I think it needed the whole box with the amount of egg and pancetta I had. Turn the heat off (this is probably the most important thing I've learned so far) and add a scoop of pasta water and the egg mixture. In the past, I've kept the heat up and ended up with somewhat of a scrambled egg mixture. Reducing the heat makes it melt together much better for the creamy substance you're looking for. Finished with a little more freshly grated parmigiano reggiano and pepper (more pepper wasn't necessary). To summarize (and for my future reference), this served 2 people and should probably have served about 4. Needed double the noodles to serve 4 or half the meat and sauce to serve 2. End result was really rich and cutting down eggs and pancetta or increasing bucatini should have taken care of this.7 points

In a way, all of us has a high-speed rail project to face. For some, shyness might be their high-speed rail project. For others, a lack of education might be their high-speed rail project. For us, the high-speed rail project is a big, expensive project that is way over budget. But as sure as my name is Rimbo, the people of California can conquer their own personal high-speed rail project, which also happens to be the actual high-speed rail project!6 points

Thats because Europe doesnt integrate. They throw Muslim immigrants into suburban ghettos and refuse to hire them for anything. To their credit though, they are trying to correct that. Traditionally, US Muslims have integrated well. However, since 911 it has been a little rockier. While you are casting a wary eye on them, they, of course, return the favor. It causes both of you to isolate yourselves.6 points

— Four-star offensive lineman Chad Lindberg, one of the most important targets in the class, made an unofficial visit to Stanford over the weekend. Going into the trip, I said Texas had the advantage but made it clear that his time in Palo Alto could change things. So how do I feel now? I think Texas weathered the storm and is still the team to beat in this race. I’m told the family really enjoyed their time out West but that it wasn’t enough to push the Cardinal over the edge. Stanford didn't move down at all, but again, I don't think it moved past Texas. Georgia and Clemson are likely to receive visits next. — Stanford topped Texas for Walker Little a couple of cycles ago and he and his mother are involved in recruiting Lindberg to Palo Alto. However, Little was not on campus to spend time with Lindberg this weekend. By the way, Cindy Card, mother of Texas quarterback commit Hudson Card, called Lindberg’s mother, Emily, last night and had a great conversation with her. Texas offensive line commits Logan Parr and Jake Majors are planning to reach out to Lindberg this week. The three are growing close. — We are continuing to hear very positive remarks about four-star defensive lineman Vernon Broughton and Texas. Right now, we feel very confident in our Crystal Ball picks, but UT’s battle isn’t over just yet. Texas A&M did make an impression on Broughton and his family on their recent visit and is firmly in the picture. But I think those around Broughton are closer to the Texas program. OU is also in the mix here and will likely host him soon. — I switched my Crystal Ball from Texas A&M to foggy for four-star defensive back Jalen Kimber. We are hearing that the visit with Texas went extremely well and that the Longhorns are doing a better job of recruiting him than the Aggies. Mike will have a full visit update from Kimber tomorrow, and we will have an intel piece on him soon with combined info on what we’re hearing. I did want to note that Kimber is in no rush to make a decision and will make several visits before the end of spring.5 points

Her texting me: Hey, some people came in from out of town and want to know where they can get the best breakfast taco in town. They want to get some for breakfast. Me texting her: I rattle off two or three spots and give her the address to each. Her texting me: Uh, I don't want to send them all over town. Where are some close to where they are. Me texting her: You said "best in town" and didn't tell me where "they" are. Her texting me: "you're an asshole." Me to myself: OK5 points

/sarc OK, sure, it is all about just enhancing the current SBA loans, student loans, and solar/wind/hybrid car/zero emission car/ incentives etc, etc, right? If the Feds are guaranteeing what the GND is proposing it will certainly affect the Federal ownership balance of many areas of production. Causing a crowding out affect at minimum as private owners learn they can't compete with a Federal government backed competition. The following would be hard to do without Federal taking unless it is just an extension of volunteer incentives similar to what currently exist(that might be phasing out at the end of the year): C) meeting 100 percent of the power demand in the United States through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources, including— (i) by dramatically expanding and upgrading renewable power sources; and (ii) by deploying new capacity; Of course that is not going to get to 100% or close to it unless there are severe repercussions like fines/penalties/etc which could be seen as, in effect, Federal taking. I'm not reading a lot of incentives to reach these goals so maybe I am assuming it is taking in any case that incentives or current non-taking programs are not clearly specified. Yea, I misspelled it. The border is a special case. Securing it is important.4 points
