  6. Out of the guys we aren't in on, I think Bowman and Knighton are worth watching for Clemson. I'm hoping they fill up early, because they could pull Evans off if they don't. For Bama, I think Lee, Bigsby, and Tyree are worth watching. They already have a lesser rated RB already committed, and normally I'd think that they'd just trapdoor him for someone better, but he's an in-state kid, so that might be less likely For Georgia, Lloyd and Bigbsby are worth watching, although they've shown the ability to come out of nowhere for any of these kids, especially ones from Florida For LSU, I'm hoping they just take one of the in-state kids in Clayton or Edwards For A&M, no idea. McGowan is my best guess, but they're also in on Edwards from Louisiana, and maybe even someone like Sam Adams. Or maybe they'll take EJ Smith? I'm not worried about Zach Evans here For OU, they're after all the same guys we are, except they're also in on McGowan, Tyree, and maybe Knighton who previously decommitted. I don't see Evans going there. To me, the biggest threats for Evans are Bama, Georgia, and LSU, and Clemson if they don't fill up, with A&M and OU hanging around the hoop, but being of lesser concern Of course, the kids we're in on like Milton, Bijan, and McClellan also could factor into this. Milton could go to any of OU, Bama, LSU, or Georgia, which would take them out of the Evans sweepstakes imo, Bijan could go to OU or Ohio State (I don't buy OSU and Evans), and if OU lands someone like Milton and McClellan decommits, aside from Texas likely being the favorite, it seems like he'd be wide open Running back musical chairs 2020, should be fun

  8. I don't understand why a bunch of miserable cunts come here to fight about politics. It's a sports and bullshit message board not a fucking political board. Maybe I should just make another site called surlypolitics and just import cloakroom there and banish all of them to that site and leave it completely unmoderated.

  11. Here's the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. Jesus Christ, Luke 16:9 Here's the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. That is, of course, provided rules and regulations related to the taxability of said benefits afforded others aren’t interpreted to lead to potential adverse financial implications to the recipient or limit the deductibility of the donor. In such circumstances the donor, however, should publicly declare willingness to make said resources available for the benefit of others. Jesus Chrisp, Surly 12:802

  15. This ignores quite a bit of American history, though. Even simple and seemingly trivial things like the shift from the United States being a plural noun to being a singular noun. There are good arguments on either side of this but it shouldn't be too much to ask to keep the discussion on this board on the up and up and philosophical. Obviously there's no way the discussion in Washington stays that way. @Michael Knight's suggestion earlier in the thread to increase the size of the House is spot-on. Not only is that the right thing to do to keep the government closer to the people, it also will help with some of the issues here. And the oft-cited objection in terms of the number of people in Washington bears little weight in the age of Skype and Facetime. There is no reason every legislator has to be in Washington all the time. In fact, making it so most Congressmen and Congresswomen aren't in Washington all the time will help significantly. Right now the halls of Congress are like shooting fish in a barrel for lobbyists. Make them have to fly around the country to visit every voting legislator instead of a one-stop shop for special interests. Imagine that, Representatives more easily reached by their constituents than by special interest lobbyists.

  19. Oh I have the foggiest. You have the money to cover all your cousin's costs, but instead want him to be considered indigent so he continues to qualify for SSI and state funded care. You could even pay for a nicer group home for him if you wanted to. You see, I want a robust safety net to take care of your cousin and even you if you fall on hard times. You think people should take care of their own. Yet here you are, not taking care of your own. And I expect that your cousin isn't alone in having terrible family members like you. The state has to look out for him because you won't. So the next time you get on here wanting children to starve because their mothers made mistakes, you should remember how you felt about benefits being taken from your family.

  22. Cervical stenosis typically means a narrow central spinal canal but is sometimes used more casually to include cervical foraminal stenosis-- narrowing of the windows through which nerve roots exit. Neither one is necessarily a contraindication for playing football. If a player has deformation of the cord itself with "signal change" inside it seen on MRI or has more than one episode of transient quadriparesis, though, he is probably done. I haven't read enough news about DGF to know whether what he has is more central or foraminal/ radiculopathic, but I think word would have gotten out had he experienced quadriparesis, and people wouldn't be sitting the fence if his MRI were that bad. The above picture shows congenital (central) stenosis which might have been an incidental finding picked up on an MRI. If it is mild, it might be no big deal. If it is severe, the surgery might be laminectomy (remove the back corner walls of the canal) and fusion. It can be made temporarily worse by disc protruding into the canal, in which case the disc is likely removed, typically with fusion as well. This picture shows a "side" (sagittal) and "bottom" (axial) view of stenosis affecting the foramen and hence the nerve root. In a young athlete, it would not be arthritis (spondylosis when in the spine) but rather disc, treated as noted above if it doesn't improve enough without surgery. Patellar tendinitis is not usually a surgical problem. Most guys who need their patellar tendon debrided (bits of unhealthy tendon trimmed out) and repaired return to play, but a good 10% never really do. Out for spring, reasonable chance to be ready for full action in fall camp.

What practices did you consult? Northwestern and the AMA has paid me to work on ACA/value based medicine etc. Just curious to see if you were peddling to some mom and pop practices or if you actually had any pull with real institutions...

  27. "Openly afraid of him?" Where did you get that? The teacher never said that. If you want to read the testimony yourself, it's right here on page 9: https://www.adnansyedwiki.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/T1w16-19991214-H-Schab-French-Teacher-Testimony-First-Trial-of-Adnan-Syed.pdf BTW, essentially deputizing Hope Schaub, a 22-year old teacher French teacher, was investigative malpractice on the part of the cops, and goes to show how desperate they were for something on which to build their case. I laughed at her comment about the hug in part 1. She's still butthurt 20 years later because Adnan didn't hug her back. She thinks it made him look like some cold blooded killer - when maybe it had something to do with the fact that she was passing out a questionnaire about his sex life to students. The cops made her feel super duper important and special, and I'm sure they convinced her Adnan was a killer. Junior Nancy Drew tried her best to give them something, even though she had nothing. I've learned a lot about coercive control in recent years, and there is no evidence of it here. If Adnan was stalking and/or abusing her, IMO there would be more evidence of that in Hae's diary. There's always a "build" - a pattern of behavior and red flags - in abusive relationships that end in murder. I don't see any of that behavior in this case.

  33. There was a glimmer of a light-bulb moment in your comment. The idea that you see how government funding cuts impact "real people" (your people). "The Left" always sees this as a problem, even when it doesn't directly impact us. What is hilarious is that you are trying to thread a needle of not wanting to accept the fact that government funding helps people in need, because of some conditioned understanding of how conservative politics views it. To the greater point others are trying to illuminate for you (cause your light-bulb seems dim). Government funding, or redistribution of wealth in your vernacular, helps lift all boats of our society. Those in situations you and I cant fathom. And just because they are over there, or darker than me, or poorer than me, or does not relate to me in any form or fashion.....doesn't mean my tax money shouldn't be allocated to assist them because it ultimately provides a greater good. But you knew that.

  34. This is just one small example - on the way to work I take the subway. There are 3 long escalators to exit to station. I use to be embarrassed because I would get winded walking up 1 (and walking kind of slowly). Now I power walk up all 3 with no problem. The other day in the gym, I got lost in thought on the exercise bike, when I looked down I had done 10k, no problems. I also have been playing basketball after work with much younger guys. I still have no vert but I can at least play competitively now.

  36. Articles like this make me want to blow my fucking brains out. I like the tax calculation. Just a 40% calculation. No deductions or credits. Just bullshit. Especially with high property taxes and kids just to name two details. Blatant inaccuracy. Not maxing out 401k contribution. All numbers contain this magical wizardry of ending in even zeros. Everything else is inflated and you can blame yourself. No one NEEDS to drive a Nazi sled (BMW). Take a hard look in the mirror and ask yourself why you’re so god damned stupid and why you pay $18k ito charity and bitch about your situation. My personal favorite: Source financialsamurai.com - Some hack bullshit website that drives click bait just like this dickless article. The only saving grace is that they have life insurance so if the parents get hit by a bus, they’ll have a shot at being raised by someone intelligent.

  37. The ones that came on in the 60s/70s were mostly retiring out before the Shuttle Program (and our own ability to launch humans) was ended without a funded follow-on program. It's the ones that came on in the 80s/90s that were dumped, unceremoniously, when Atlantis came to "Wheels Stop" on STS-135. There are a few, including some of my old colleagues, who are still there and more than capable of doing this -- but yes, it's the loss of institutional knowledge (even if it's been documented) and perhaps the ability to train of the next generation of Manned Spaceflight Flight Controllers that may be lost forever. It will require YEARS to really build that back. "Flying in circles" with ISS has not done the MCC teams any favors. When you're in a dynamic phase or doing something you've never done before requires a completely different set of skills and experience. There's a lot of emergency thinking and reaction skills that have been lost... or at least dulled. I've been critical of the SpaceX teams for taking too lax an attitude in their "MCC". Once they start flying *people*, a different and more focused approach is going to be required, or people will die (i.e., NO FUCKING GLASS FISHBOWL AND FAWNING/CHEERING FANBOY AUDIENCE). While I love the idea of a nationally-focused Manned Spaceflight Exploration Plan™, the phrase "Urgency must be our watchword," goes against EVERYTHING in the Flight Controller's Creed: Pay special attention to #2... "ultimate consequences" means something. Nowhere in that Creed is the phrase "go faster" found. In fact, the opposite ("taking a stand when we must") is one of the most vital phrases (and one of the failures in both the Challenger and Columbia accidents). Getting "GO FEVER" will result in people being killed. And that could be the end of the US Manned Space Program.
