Fuck the Courts. Open impeachment hearings. Call Mueller. Call Cohen (whose testimony provides separate bases for impeachment). Then subpoena Barr. If he refuses to testify at an impeachment hearing, then impeach him for obstructing Congress from carrying out its constitutional obligation. Then call Mnuchin about the tax returns. If he refuses to do the same, then impeach him, too. Then impeach Trump, adding an additional article for obstructing Congress's constitutional oversight duties. If the Senate Republicans vote to acquit, then fine--it's a vote to dissolve the United States Congress as a legitimate body. Let the judgment of history be on them. eta: and by the way--if you do this, you tie up the Senate with trials and impair its ability to confirm Trump's various appointees.20 points

Some of you may remember my dog Roosevelt from the other board. He was named after Roosevelt Leaks and survived the house fire with me in 2015. Thank you so much to those of you that donated and helped us out. I don't know what I would have done without the support I received from y'all. Ro was just shy of 15 1/2 years. He'd been battling a pancreatic tumor that stole all his blood sugar as soon as he ate causing him to go into shock and start seizing up. The vet said you usually get 6 months after diagnosis, but he fought through it for another year and a half. We thought we were going to lose him in November, but as a last ditch try, started giving him CBD and it stopped the seizures in a few days. He hadn't had one since. PM me if you want more info on the CBD, it was literally a life saver and gave him a massive increase in quality of life. He'd torn both knees and had them replaced via TPLO in 2015 and 2016. He was in a lot of pain from arthritis, so we had the vet come to the house and put him to sleep yesterday. It's one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, but there really wasn't much choice. The pain meds weren't working well enough anymore. He couldn't support his own body weight to poop and was so smart, he felt ashamed when he pooped in the house the last week or so. No amount of reassurance from us could make it better. We had him cremated via aquamation, rather than fire. He survived one fire and I wasn't going to put him back into one at the end. He was the most amazing dog I've ever known, my best friend and faithful companion for 15 1/2 years. I feel so empty without him. One of his favorite things was riding in the car when we drove through West Texas. He loved the smell of cow shit and every time we passed a feedlot, he'd go nuts smelling the air. We're going to take another drive soon and scatter some of his ashes there. Here's him on our last road trip in January. We knew it was probably his last trip, so we left outside air on for him for the entire drive. Here he is leaning down to smell the poop smell coming in the air vent and then looking over his left shoulder as the smell wafted past.16 points

Yet another aggy in the wild embarrassing themselves story: My company had the honor today of hosting a team from NASA and the ISS for a presentation on collaborative opportunities in space. The keynote presenter was a NASA astronaut who flew on 3 shuttle missions including 2 deployments to the ISS. She logged over 42 days in space. She's a certified bad-ass by any unit of measurement, and a Texas Ex to boot. During the Q&A one of the questions from the audience was to ask her to describe her most thrilling moment as an astronaut. Now, ramjet can attest to this better than most, but being an astronaut doesn't equate to being a great or inspiring public speaker. Her engineering principles were on full display. She was calculated, precise...anything but boastful (almost to her detriment; the audience wants to be wowed by tales of what they'll never experience). But she did her best to describe the immense power of the 8 1/2 minute launch, the beauty of seeing the aurora borealis plus massive weather patterns on earth from space,, etc. She also talked about how one of the most memorable and cool things she saw was the view from the shuttle each time (she was on the Discovery all 3 missions) upon re-entry when (I'm gonna fuck up the particulars) the plasma super heated and a brilliant--in her words--"burnt orange glow encased the vehicle. As a Longhorn I thought that was really cool." The audience here in Austin politely chuckled/applauded as you'd expect. Except for the dumb fuck, twenty something aggy who waited until the crowd noise subsided to let out a 5 second long "hisssssssssss." Heads snapped around to find this douche who, when he realized he was being stared down, lifted his right hand with a feeble gig em sign. This dipshit is two years or less into his career & he thinks the appropriate thing to do in a public event (we were also streaming it globally) is to hiss at an astronaut and PhD in engineering? What the fuck is wrong with these idiots?15 points

Let me summarize Bobby... Bobby's told Texas is looking to bolster it's roster. Except Texas isn't actually pursuing anyone that he knows of. But they found two players last spring, so they may look again. But he's not sure what position, whether it's LB or TE, until they actually start looking for grad transfers. So we'll know if Texas is looking to bolster it's roster when they actually start pursuing players which they currently are not. Texas hasn't recruited east Texas except they did with Overshown, Ingram, Sweat. Other programs also haven't recruited east Texas. Big cities produce a bigger pool of talented players where Texas has had success. Texas will recruit talented east Texas prospects like Kitan Crawford. So basically Texas doesn't recruit east Texas except when they do. .... great fucking insight there. Someone put him in a nursing home please. 24/7 has gone to pure shit.13 points

Great planning by Hillary. "Hey guys, let's launder falsified intelligence to our buddies at the FBI, who just fucking love Democrats and hate Republicans, to initiate a counterintelligence investigation into Trump's campaign to help us win the election. Then, and this is the real genius, let's never publicly reveal or in any way use any information gleaned from that investigation until after the election has already occurred, but let's make sure to go to Mitch fucking McConnell and ask him to put out a bipartisan statement that Russia is trying to tamper with the election. And to really throw the hounds off our trail, we'll tell our good buddy James Comey to publicly re-open the investigation into me a week before the election."11 points

I think there's a lot of that. But I think they've miscalculated. Everyone is extrapolating consequences of a impeachment-without-conviction from a sample size of 1. That's not a very sound way to predict future events. Pelosi and the Democrats act like not impeaching is the safe play. It isn't. It holds its own risks. It may be damaging to Democratic prospects to forego impeachment than to impeach. If Democrats don't impeach, then their base may be dispirited and disguised with the gutlessness of the Democratic Party, say "what's the point," and stay at home. The fact is that we don't know what is "good politics" in this situation, because we've never seen it before. We're all just speculating. And in a your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine scenario, it's best to default to the what's-the-right-thing-to-do position.8 points

yeah, so i have some unique insight on this, given that i worked for the 2010 census. immigrant populations, hell, even native spanish speaking citizens, are wary of the census, just as crazy fundamentalist white people are. they feel the government is going to take action on the information given. however, these people are here, using our roads, paying sales taxes, sending their children to schools. we need a fucking accurate count. and this will affect an already skewed down count of hispanics in texas. by the way, the question can go largely unanswered by census rules. if i recall correctly, the magic number was 3. we needed a minimum of three parts of the questionnaire answered for the census to accept it as complete. the main bottom line is the # of people. other demographic information is gravy for analysis, but the main purpose in # for house reps and for funding. that's also why getting an accurate homeless count is important, but apd pretty much prevented that by sabotaging months of planning with homeless advocates the night the count was to occur by running the homeless out of known areas. which was sort of a relief, because the method of counting homeless people was borderline barbaric, but that's a story for another time.7 points

Summited Mt St Helens today. Skinned up 6 miles for 5000ft elevation gain. The return 6 were made easier by skiing off the summit. Bluebird sky and no wind up top, which was amazing. About 10 feet to the left in the pic foreground is a cornice with a drop of over 1000ft into the volcano crater. Mt Adams in the background6 points

This is obviously a very, very mentally disturbed person. I do not want to completely generalize here, but these are the kind of people that Dotard's message of hate and fake news bullshit is reaching and this is the end result of that kind of rhetoric. This will not be the last story we hear of this nature. Not by a longshot. Amongst a ridiculous litany of reasons on why he has to be beaten in November of 2020, this is one of them. He is awakening the worst and most heinous aspects of some of the people who live in our country. Through his tweets, propaganda rallies and public statements, he is adding fuel to the fire for people who do not need much in order to go off the deep end and commit some seriously horrific atrocities to show support for Dotard. If you are a Republican and are still supporting him right now you are probably beyond help. You are on the wrong side of history and honestly you're just a fucked up human being at this juncture if you don't grasp what supporting this narcissistic asshole means. You are actively helping prop up his message of hate and there is no possible defense you can provide other than you are frightened at the prospect of whites having to realize that those evil brown-skinned folks deserve to be treated as equals in all aspects of our society. You are more/less the equivalent of the white South Africans (not all) from the late 80's who trudged forward fighting a hopeless and thankfully doomed cause and you will get exactly what you deserve for doing so.6 points

Warren is right in her call to impeach to force everyone to declare where they stand on this abomination of a president. Gauging whether Trump will be ultimately convicted shouldn't factor in at all. Censure would be a pathetic move and allow GOPs an easy out. I'll predict censure is actually a GOP fall back position. For me, this is a chance for the Dems to show more spine than they did in the Iraq invasion vote. I count on the women to lead the way.6 points

we need an accurate account of citizens in our country. We need an accurate account of the number of illegal immigrants in our country. Someone refusing to comply with the census should not be reason to not seek transparency. The tax paying citizens deserve to know the truth and the actual cost.5 points

well, they are here, and we do have to deal with it. i knocked on a lot of doors where the respondent was translating through their very fluent english speaking children, who were obviously american citizens. their parents? probably not. maybe illegal, maybe not. but let's think for a minute about your first question. let's say there is a venezuelan man, here legally, married to a white woman with a couple kids watches the news and sees how the administration treats foreign nationals. let's say he fled maduro's regime, and would very much not like to go back "home". what is his incentive to fill out the form? what is his incentive to answer the door when the inevitable and very dogged census workers keep coming to close out his address? especially if he feels the government is going to use his answers against him. and let's be honest, the intent of the administration is very fucking clear. they want to intimidate. they want to turn their base against non-citizens, and they are gaslighting that non-citizens must be here illegally. they purposefully conflate their rhetoric on these points. however, that non-citizen deserves representation. we govern for that person just as much as for you, and we offer them a path to citizenship, hard as it is. that non-citizen also pays taxes, sales and federal and property. this is the same thing around sanctuary cities. we have to be pragmatic. ask any police chief with a very diverse city: minority reporting of crime and cooperation with investigation is hard enough without people worrying about ICE detainers and the like. hell, we have one family friend that i assumed was a US citizen get popped for a dwi. hard worker, contributor to society, was just brought here as an infant. she's got a son, who is a citizen. i think she's actually got a green card, but nevertheless she got to cool her heels in county until that ICE detainer was resolved. almost lost her job, and she's lucky she had a real support system for her son while that whole thing got sorted. i realize a significant number of our population would like to see her deported. she doesn't even speak spanish. it's complicated. this only further complicates things, and it is entirely intentional.5 points

Yes. Plus, impeachment is a permanent, historical stain on a president, even without removal. That stain needs to be put on the Trump presidency.5 points

Selfishly, I really wanted to keep him longer, but I had to do what was right for him, not me. Things are still in the shitter for me, but I'm trying to climb out of the mess the fire left me in. To add a little salt to everything, I have to go to a memorial for my main paleontology mentor and scatter his ashes Friday at the field site I used to run, but had to give up. I'm going to scatter some of Ro's there with him. I'm still dealing with chronic pain and haven't been able to write much. The first post took me a long time, writing in spurts. I'm still on a leave of absence from school until that resolves a bit more. My doctor put me on some new medications last week that gave me double vision yesterday and today. I thought it was tears in my eyes blocking me from seeing clearly, but it didn't go away. Good times. I'm still putting one foot in front of the other and have made a ton of progress, but it was a lot easier when Ro was there along side me. He was in too much pain though, so I had to let him go. A big part of me wants to go with him. I won't, but from where I'm standing, I can see how people make that choice. I know that every day will be a little easier than yesterday and today. That's probably TMI above, but it's better to get things like that out and into daylight than it is to keep it bottled up inside where it can fester.5 points

Stopped by Kroger on the way home today and walked out just in time to see a tornado go by (Bryan Tx, 4:45pm). Called the wife who was still at work and told her I just watched a tornado from Kroger parking lot and it's heading toward our house, wife responds "did you get my coffee mate?" This video was from right down the road. Our house is a few miles east of town and the tornado petered out before it got there and no I didn't get her damn coffee mate.4 points

My daughter is autistic. Now that she is 16 it’s important to get her to step out of her comfort zone and learn to do more things on her own. One of the things she feels very uncomfortable doing is ordering her own food. I’ve been trying to get her to do this so she won’t starve to death after I die. If this makes you wait a minute or so in line I don’t really give a fuck4 points

Prediction: "who cares what Woodward thinks, Woodward gets too much credit for the hires, that was an A&M thing (it was A&M's leadership and culture and resources and the sleeping giant opportunity that attracted Fisher and Williams, not Woodward) more than anything he did, I hope he enjoys losing to us every year!, it was a desperation move on LSU's part to try to thwart the mighty championship momentum of Texas A&M but it won't matter"4 points

Correction. The term is free Persons in the constitution and it is an antiquated term at best meant to exclude slaves. Yes that is how antiquated that term is. So it is your belief that the intent of the founding fathers was to count everyone living in the US - including those here illegally - for purposes of representation and federal funding? Does adding the citizenship question prevent illegals from answering the census?4 points
