  4. CSB, my entire family of my mom’s side is from Oklahoma, and a few played for OU. My next door neighbors growing up both graduated from UT. One year when I was in middle school, my neighbor was out in the front yard and we started talking for a bit. He asked me if I was going to the TX/OU game that weekend. I told him I was. He said “do me a favor. Walk around the stadium at halftime, and pay attention to the people you see on each side of the stadium. Then ask yourself which side you want to be hanging out with when you’re an old fuck like me.” Pretty solid advice.

  7. Will it? We seem to have a fairly linear trend line for testing since about 03.31. If you want to see something really awful in retrospect, look at the amount of daily tests we had during the during the third week of March when the shit began to really hit the fan. Yes, we slowly ramped up testing, but in the last 2.5 weeks we've basically said "this is a fine number of daily tests, no need to get crazy and start testing more people." Until we have a way to reliably and quickly test individuals, there's just no way to go back to normal. People in Wuhan aren't going out to eat even though they've been "re-opened", and I highly doubt that any conference outside of the SEC would be able to fill the stands of any CFB stadium. Source Data Anyone that thinks "well if the worst case scenario is only 1-2% mortality then that's ok we should reopen everything" obviously hasn't had this crises hit close to home for them. My wife and I are both extremely fortunate that we have both remained employed (even promoted!) during this, and along with our son, have been healthy. You know what? This is STILL HARD. There's no daycare, there's no schools. Work is stressful as hell, laying people off that have kids is one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. My wife works from home three days a week while watching our son (6mo) and when I get home I take him for the rest of the evening as much as I can since she's been with him all day trying to work. And again, we are fortunate compared to most. However, we are not sitting there thinking that "Gosh, if people would just be ok with some people dying that would have died someday anyways." But maybe this is where GRHorn and I (and many others on this site) see things differently. I'm understanding of the need to make personal sacrifices right now, because even if it's not my Grandparents/Parents getting sick, the people that are getting sick are someone's Parents/Siblings/Friends/Spouses/etc/etc/etc. The 37,000!!! people that we have lost in this country were all important to someone. Just because they are a number in a column on a spreadsheet to some people doesn't make their pain and suffering any less tragic. My hope is that as a country, and as a people of the world, we learn from this and forge ahead with new plans and ideas to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again. With all the modern medical marvels at our disposal, and for as much money as we collectively waste, there is no reason that any first-world country should have a COVID-19 graph that looks any different from South Korea's. It would be nice to live somewhere where logic, science and reason are the driving forces behind political decisions, not religion. While the strip below isn't entirely about the matter at hand, it always made me laugh.

  10. last 3 days testing has been about 160,000. should hit 4 million tests reported on the 20th or 21st. mike pence said we'd have 4 million tests by the end of the week back on march 9th. missed it by 600%.

  14. How to people go back to work if daycares and schools aren’t open? It’s a pretty basic question. Phase 1 still has them closed and not everyone can telework. I mean... just take them to the movie theaters or the gym and drop them off for the day? This shit is whack. These guidelines are so slapdickedly put together it’s almost laughable if, you know, it wasn’t life and death.

  17. I've tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, but when you "like" a post over there that accuses me of denigrating my country, I can't help but take offense to that. In my post, to which CTJ responded, I stated that we should be "responsible for our own self-defense" and not just "point fingers everywhere else." I stated we should also "take accountability for our own inactions" in response to the threat. In his response that post, CTJ made the following statements in reference to my post: "no one here is cutting themselves in anguish of how terrible the United States is" "we fucking suck as a country and are the dumbest pieces of shit on the planet" "we should be more like the fucking bawlers in Europe or the subverted and submissive in southeast Asia" That is one example of how bad it's gotten over there. As a presumed libertarian, I would think that you would have also agreed with my post since that's the essence of libertarian political philosophy. I guess it really isn't though as you gleefully supported a post that I take great offense to. I've been here and on the Shag for 10 years now and I challenge you to find a single post where I ever expressed any of those sentiments. It's absolutely shameful, and you supported it and are playing the thread game yourself while pretending you're not. Almost anything under the sun can be expressed in that thread including wild conspiracy theories and outright false claims that the virus was in the wild in New York City during November, except for criticism of our federal response. You've shown yourself to be a fucking fraud, Anastasis, and you need to reflect back to the meaning of your user name and reconsider rebooting your belief system. You're not a "both sides" guy; you're a one sided asshole who plays a make-believe game of playing the middle. You've barely even posted over there but you clearly monitor it since you're handing out internet hearts to vile accusations while pretending to be above it. You're clearly not. Fuck you, man. Seriously, fuck you. I'm pissed, disappointed, and offended by your weasel gaslighting.

  19. And how fucking stupid is Twitter. 2 of tbe 3 trending photos show people clearly distanced getting some exercise. The other is so far back it’s hard to telL what is going on, but while I’m sure it is trying to imply a party, but if you actually look closely it is mostly just people walking around. And while everyone loves to make fun of Florida, those morons have done the second most testing in the country, second only to NY, and one of only 2 states at 250k tests. The 4th, 5th, and 6th states in terms of testing are a step change down to 150k, and that includes Texas at 4. And the percent positive on those test? Only 10%. A far cry from the 50% of NY and NJ. To top it off, the limited beach access hours (which is not all day and night) is only in the northern counties where there is a lower number of tests. We have to reopen slowly and in a planned way that is different for each location. I’d honestly say Florida is doing a goof job based on the info they currently have. As long as they are willing to respond quickly as the data changes (RE-close or shorten beach hours if there is a significant spike), this is what we need.

  20. We got drenched yesterday afternoon but managed to get Into some trout. Was wading side by side with my old man at sunset and he would start giggling like a school girl when those trout would crush that top water. Buddy lost 22” trout while he was fucking measuring him on the boat...... Day before we had couple trout, a red and a flounder, which I will be eating tonight. Wanted to gig for flounder but wind was pretty high. I was at the dock when Capt Marty’s charter came in from their jetty trip. Every single one of their trout was a pig. I was so jealous. All were 22-26”. Blow up the pic and see how fat they were. I took a pic of other people’s fish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This isn't the "find a cure or minimize negative outcomes" thread. This is the thread for Covid-19. Including discussions about where it came from, without your weird partisan conspiracy theories about Fox News, the DOD and other Republicans. Jesus.

  28. We are about to begin a battle for our nation. And it is between those of us with a functioning brain, and the vast hoards of the stupid you see in those photos. It is the long simmering result of our turning our back on education, and the rise of Fox and Rush and company. In the past, stupid people knew they were not smart, or educated on issues like science. They respected the educated, and realized that they knew more. Now, Fox and Facebook have told them for years that THEY know what it going on. THEY are the smart ones, not the NY Times readers. THEY are smart. Listen to my talking points I heard today from both Fox TV AND radio!!! More importantly, they have been told repeatedly that those fancy paints eggheads are REALLY not smart at all....that THEY are smarter than the stupid libtards from egg-head schools, and they don't need to listen to them. All that stuff is FAKE! They send each other Facebook posts with simple slogans telling each other that they are right - that the eggheads are stupid lying liberals. Every problem in Trump World is simple; every issue is black and white. Climate change, vaccines, Covid-19 - all made up, just like most of the stuff you hear Hannity and Alex Jones prove is wrong. Well Surly, it is not going to get any better any time soon. The folks on Team Stupid are strong. They are strong because they have numbers, and, importantly, because they are unified. They have a simple and easy to understand answer to all problems. It is those libtards who talk with faggy Beta word-speak - like "nuance", and "measured", and "diplomatic" - and "complex solutions to difficult problems." Dear God, now I finally get the thing about 'sips and Aggy. It is like Aggy was the Borg and spread out across America, assimilating. I am decidedly on Team Hook 'Em. With the fancy-schmancy, big word using, science appreciating team. We will have to overthrow the whole GOP to get this country back from the science hating track. We face an Army of Swams and 8Badmofo31s. Which is to say, nothing can ever be said or done to convince them they are wrong. Everyone in their family dying of Cofid-19 will not change their mind. They'd say it was the other flu and a 'dimocrat' plot to hurt Trump with fake Covid-19 autopsy stats. I'm not really sure we will win in the end. I'll be at Brisket's, buying ledge-sitting pads for my ass. ,

  30. 8 lb pork roast 2 lbs poring or calf liver...here’s where i deviate: i use chicken liver instead of pig of calf. 3 large sweet yellow onion, chopped 4 bunches green onion, chopped 6 large cloves of garlic, minced salt Chachere’s or your Cajun seasoning of choice black pepper white pepper Cayenne pepper 8-10 cups of cooked long grain rice 1/2 lb of casings cut the pork roast up in chunks, boil until barely done. after that, add the chicken livers, yellow onions and 3 bunches of green onions to the same water and boil until done. reserve the water. grind the meat and liver with the onions together, not too fine as you don’t want a paste but neither too coarse as you still have to stuff it. Put grind in large roaster, place back on stove top, and add the remaining green onions and parsley and rice all the while seasoning to taste and adding the liquid your reserved until it’s the right consistency. as far as what’s the right consistency, you’ll have to figure that out on your own...not too wet but not too dry either. it really is a “feel” thing. let cool to room temp and then get your ass busy stuffing that mix into casings. when finished, put the boudin in a pot of barely simmering salted water....about 180 sets...for 20 mins. after that, you’re done. you’re welcome.
