  1. The AAS guys are going to be ornery about the coaching change because when they ran with CDC's vote of confidence as confirmation that Herman would coach in 2021 they got a lot of shit talked to them for being so stupid and not recognizing what it really was. Those guys do actually believe that they're the local experts on college football and the Texas program in particular because they're the guys covering it for the local paper. After people pointed out how wrong their interpretation of CDC's statement was they doubled down. So now they have to believe that this was a nefarious and malicious move by the athletic department because it's easier to pretend that's the case than to accept that they are exactly as dumb as everyone told them they are.

  2. I think you're directionally correct here, but I disagree with a few of your thoughts. 1) I can't help myself when I see someone hint at some reason for why Strong wound up with Watson at Texas as anything other than the mere fact that Strong really wanted Watson at Texas. Everything else was theater. You can ask folks who were involved with the AD, the media, or in the coaching realm at the time. Strong was given advice not to bring in Watson, so he acted like he was looking for someone else for 3 weeks and then brought the motherfucker in. I went from being excited, to hopeful, to immediately despondent during Strong's assistant staff assembly. Watching people, good posters even, defend the Watson hiring in the early days was depressing. It was a straight up fucking disaster hire and Strong was flat out willful in making sure it happened. 2) Herman could have brought in anyone he wanted for his staff and there were coaches clamoring to get on board. Brewster, who knows him, made it explicitly clear that he'd be interested in coming back to Texas. Herman not only showed no interest, he touted that as a story to make his staff assembly sound like the best and the brightest. Same is true for Traylor. Traylor wanted to stay at Texas. He knew Herman for what he is, but wanted to make it work because of how he viewed his future if he could make it work at the school. I can't remember if Herman just obviously mailed-in the interview with Traylor or was even more dismissive and didn't give him one, but either way, Traylor fucking despised the guy upon his arrival. That isn't because he was fired. It's because of the way he was handled on the way out and the way Herman treated everyone when he showed up at Texas. So I hope you're right regarding Sarkisian's reach, but the job itself could have created far better outcomes for both Strong and Herman if they weren't fucking idiots in each of their own rights. To me, everything hangs in the balance with the Sarkisian hire over the next two weeks. If he gets the staff even half right, with the talent on hand, he's off and running. If he can't flex his network and the job itself to get at least a few excellent recruiters, an excellent OL coach, and an excellent DC, we'll be here in 3-4 years or the middle of 2022 after he flames out from the pressure coupled with on-field failings and a firing after missing practice while he's hungover in bed with a coed.

  3. The DB coach situation is interesting. Valai is trash. He was an indefensible hire at the time, although a group of posters here and elsewhere certainly lived up to stereotype and defended the hire anyway. "But closetojumping, he's Ash's guy/he's signed a few recruits/trainers love him/whatever the fuck?!?!?" Indefensible hire. 1) Ash has proven, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he has no fucking clue what he's doing on the coaching personnel side of things. He hired possibly the worst staff in the modern history of P5 programs when he took over at Rutgers. I mean, way fucking worse than what Herman brought to Texas. He didn't do well replacing guys during his tenure there either. Valai is the guy he insisted on bringing to Texas with him. 2) Valai had one year of on-field coaching experience. 3) Even with Herman's future uncertain, there were myriad better choices for the hire. Herman made better choices at DC and OC while under duress so spare the argument that no CB coach would come to Texas. Same bullshit with WR coach. So Valai was a putrid hire from the beginning. Now? His unit underperformed this season, even with an improving defense. "But CTJ, uh, hello, recruiting?!?!" Anyone can manage the trainer network and pay bagmen. Valai hasn't really shown some sort of amazing work there. Managing the bags isn't recruiting anyway. Whatever marginal value this guy provides as a recruiter is superseded by everything else and not worthy of defense. So, if Sarkisian keeps this guy because "he's a protege/running buddy with Ash" then fuck us running. It isn't like Ash has shown some irreplaceable value. Urban Meyer loves him, Awesome. Urban Meyer also vouched for him as a HC candidate to Rutgers and others. Urban Meyer also had Tim Beck as an OC. He's not infallible. If Corey fucking Raymond wants to come to Texas and you can bring a massive transfer or two with him, as well as re-orient the two Texas safeties currently committed to LSU for 2022 and you can get North Shore to give a shit about your school again, you take that guy. And his interest is real. If not him, some other guy with bonafides who will be an animal on the recruiting trail (read: Not Duane Afuckingkina). You know who you don't take? Some fucking JAG who isn't a top 100 coach at their position in the sport of CFB - someone like Jay Valai. If Valai's our guy at CB, coupled with Sarkisian thinking he could bring Mike Stoops to Texas with a Co-DC title, those are signs that point to this round being like the last two, and the warnings from the clear-eyed cynics at that Huskie site and on the Trojan boards being more than just sour grapes. Let's hope that's not what we witness. I'd like to find a way to be justified in getting excited about a UT football regime for the first time in 11+ years.

  6. The Conservative party in this country is the Democratic Party. That is the starting point for any rational, realistic, grounded in reality understanding of "truth". Those of us with a progressive, genuinely certifiable, 100% "Liberal" agenda HAVE NO PARTY. Conservatives, who want to preserve America as it has been known, are Democrats. Those who support the current President? Those who vote Republican? Yeah, those people are fascists. Let's not mince words, let's not put pretense out there of shit that's not true. If you vote "Red" you are a fucking authoritarian, tyrant supporting piece of fucking totalitarian shit. You are an ASSHOLE. If you consider yourself in any way "moderate" or "middle of the road" you should be screaming your support of Nancy Pelosi and her corporatist Democrat platform from the fucking rooftops. You should be a Democrat with a fucking capital D, and Joe Biden should be your patron fucking saint. We Liberals, who have way more in common with 6.8 billion of our fellow fucking human beings than you do, HAVE NO PARTY in this country. We only vote Democrat because they are not fucking homicidal lunatics. So GROW SOME FUCKING BALLS, you so called "moderate" Americans. Call the Republicans the pieces of shit that they are. GROW. SOME. FUCKING. BALLS.

  7. Maybe this goes in the memes thread but this is the lone holdout on my facebook feed: My response: It's been 2 months and over 70 lawsuits without any evidence. If there was evidence it would have been released by now. To complete the analogy... The ruling on the field was confirmed but the losing team has resorted to saying the rules don't apply to them because they had more fans in the stadium than the other team.

  14. Trump is the symptom, not the disease. We have dumbed down our political system to the point of it becoming unworkable. We don’t elect elder statesmen (or women) anymore, we elect idiots that couldn’t pass a citizenship test or civic class. They reflect the populace that is dumbing down as well. That’s how you elect Marjorie Taylor-Green, Tommy Tubberville, Lauren Boebert. Most don’t even have a platform beyond being against the bogeyman du jour. Loeffler and Perdue aren’t running for anything, they are running against communism, socialism, etc. The elder statesmen we do have are compromised by lobbyists and/or their efforts to maintain their grip on power. That’s a both sides problem. Pelosi and Schumer will only rock the boat so much because they are on board. They are also saddled with with the problems earlier decisions to maintain power has created. Simple majority votes, creeping executive orders, the list goes on. Congress no longer works as intended. There isn’t any compromise or working through issues. There’s obstruction and filling do or die bills with as much pork as possible. The Republicans neutered one of most significant checks on power by ignoring their duties on impeachment and lack of enforcement of congressional subpoenas. That will in turn be abused or corrected by the dems and that fix will in turn just cause more problems. This is the way. I really don’t know what’s repairable at this point. The actions each side takes are band aids around the sucking chest wound that’s killing us. We need to codify a lot of the norms we took for granted that no elected official would cross. We need to probably beef up the presidential qualifications to include the ability to verify that person isn’t/can’t be compromised. At a minimum, we should probably ensure that the person that becomes original classification authority and commander in chief of our armed forces for our country can pass a fucking clearance investigation. We need to find a way to get congress to act like congress again and do their jobs without such egregious deference to party.

  23. I did myself the disservice of watching that stupid zoom call they put together a day or two back on the firing with Golden, Bohls, Davis, etc. They spent the entire time whining about how they didn't see it coming and they didn't like the press conference because they had to put their questions in the chat, and this wasn't a very "Texas" thing to do. What a bunch of entitled. out of touch. lazy ass fucks. These guys just sit outside on the front step waiting for someone to hand them something. They are like homeless reporters. No idea how to do journalism or investigation or anything remotely valuable. Just sit behind their desks a few extra inches away each year and collect paychecks as "insiders". Give me a fucking break. The fact that Kirk Bohls has a heisman vote is one of the most criminal things in sports.

  25. Drayton evaluates his coached position just about better than anyone else in the country. Sure, it’s easy to see the talent in a guy like Bijan, but he’s also the guy that jumped on Jon Brooks early when people thought that was a meh take, and he’s help turn RoJo into a very good RB.

He made Overshown look beastly after he got through some growing pains. The growth of Gbenda and Ford quickly as well. He isn't perfect and you could talk me into an upgrade(Not named Mike fucking Stoops) but he has impressed me the most out of any coach on staff

  30. I would agree that if we hired Sark straight out of USC, two years removed from his UW meh, it would be a shit hire. But, first of all, UW and SC were deeply troubled programs when he was there (UW 0-12, SC coming off probation with a 60 schollie roster). And he was a deeply troubled man. He took that experience to a five-figure analyst job at Alabama and parlayed that into being the most successful current OC in college football. And he wasn't just minding the program, he affirmatively improved it. If we were hiring him on that alone, without the meh head coaching experience, I'd be more skeptical. I think his background of "failure" and success, in a cycle, and accompanied by sobriety, is a unique and potent combination that has considerable upside. Probably more upside than Brian Kelly or Dan Mullen. There's more to be excited about Steve Sarkisian v 2.0 than anyone we could have gotten after Meyer fell through.

  31. I don't think fans at any major SEC program would throw a fit if Mike Stoops was hired as a position coach. The nuance here which Sark may or may not have appreciated if he made a potential "list" is that a Stoops at Texas in any capacity would be a problem (considering not only long term history but that Texas and Sam ended his DC career). So if Sark has a good relationship with him from his time at Bama and he made an initial list, and CDC said (you know Texas fans are going to go ape shit every time a LB misses a tackle if you hire a Stoops here) and then Sark listened to that advice, well, it would show he's actually willing to accept guidance unlike Strong and especially Herman. So I see that as a good thing. Again, if Sark took the fucking UF job and hired Stoops as LB's coach, nobody at FL would give a shit.
