  4. it is a problem and you have to view this particular issue from the lens in which it was raised by the various southern state legislatures. trans kids can't transition - by law. parents get in trouble if they help their kids transition - by law. doctors are not allowed to treat trans kids for being trans - by law. and then the fun one, trans kids can't compete - by law. it's such a serious issue it is being made a crime in some states. These bills, just like the bathroom bills are designed by cruel and hateful humans to try and force us back under the rock they hid us under. These bills are attempts to make us pretend to ourselves we don't exist. That's really what this is about. This attack started immediately after obergefell v. hodges, it was predicted by the progressive organizations and it is all funded by the same ultra-right wing "christian" political groups. they write the bills, find sponsors and then ram them through legislatures. This has never been about "protecting" anyone. This is about erasure. The problem is they keep losing and so it's a hodge podge of well, this issue, or that issue but again, they simply want all LGBTQ erased and especially trans folks. people say a solution in search of a problem - it's not that. This is a bunch of vile people waving the onward Christian soldier flag thinking they are doing the Lord's work, instead they are - once again - ruining the message of Christ in the name of culture wars.

  5. Some here feel the need to imagine that there is going to be a rash of boys getting into girls' sports in order to win. This is... idiotic. Middle school aged boys aren't going to pretend to be girls in order to win games. To argue this will be the case is just stupidity. The next argument, I guess, is that there has always been a flood of trans girls waiting in the wings. That our schools are full of trans girl athletes who, up to this point, have been afraid to participate. I see no evidence of this. It is yet another thing that doesn't make sense. Trans people will make up a tiny percentage of the population as a whole, and not even all of those will be athletic, and not even all of THOSE will want to participate in sports anyway. I just cannot forsee any way that this is impactful in a large-scale sense. It's a bunch of tempests in teapots.

  7. So, you are aware that there are a lot of cisgender boys who are going to have significantly lower testosterone levels than a lot of cisgender girls, right? I mean, we're not even talking about transgender here; we're talking about kids who were born boys/girls and are boys/girls and think of themselves as boys/girls. So your answer is to send every kid who wants to play sports to go have an annual blood draw to see his/her testosterone levels. And you think that's a good idea? All because of some made-up boogyman about those awful transgenders coming out and dominating the fuck out of women's sports (about which you don't give a fuck anyway). And so what happens when a girl comes home with a blood draw that says she has too much testosterone to play high school volleyball? How's that going to go down with the mean girls at school? You think that's a great thing? It's just cruelty for the sake of cruelty. Well, that's not exactly true. It's cruelty for the sake of distracting from the fact that the Republican Party has presided over Texas's descent into failed-state status. We can't keep the fucking lights on during a winter storm. We can't efficiently distribute a vaccine during a pandemic (and God knows we can't enact any measures to slow the spread of the disease). We can't even administer a lousy standardized test over the internets without the system crashing. And godfuckingdammit, we can't even hate on the gays anymore because that's considered improper because every fucking suburban housewife has a gay friend. I know--let's scapegoat the trans folks! Yeah--maybe then the voters will forget about the fact that they pay some of the nation's highest taxes and in exchange get the nation's most incompetent government.

  8. I went to the whitest HS in Texas 35 years ago and something like this would never have occurred to anyone I can think of. And even if some degenerate had come up with the idea, I'm reasonably sure they'd have been told they were fucked up. This has to be a byproduct of the example being set by adults currently.

  14. What is there to like about that dude? He's a fucking clown. He defended Shaka Smart for years past the point in which Smart was defensible. When challenged, his common refrain was the tried and true go-to of "for those of us that understand the sport, it's clear you're wrong and he's doing as well as anyone could here." Now all he's doing is posting passive aggressive shit about why Beard won't get it done at Texas. He should go blog for Marquette and massage Smart's choad for him each time he shits himself in public while nice-guying all over the basketball court. Those two losers deserve each other.

  18. Any of you hunt regularly? I saw where Cajun does. What cool shit have you found hunting, and what have you found just by accident? My best has been by accident, but many were from a field along a creek that the owner would call me when he was plowing it for peanuts. One of my uncles has probably 10 cigar boxes full, plus about 5 big display boards with 50-60 each. My great-grandad said they were so plentiful when he was a kid, that they used them for skipping rocks. Here is my meager collection: My favorite, of course is the big hide scraper. We had leased a place and one of our cows got bit on the face by a rattlesnake, so my Dad had sent me over to walk all of the limestone ledges and locate dens. I was walking along and there it was, just laying on top of the ground. I estimate that it was dropped by a Comanche in the last 250 years. My other favorite is this small intricate bird point that I kicked out from under the dirt in about 4th grade. I was on the swing, and the bell rang for recess to be over, so I started dragging my feet to slow down and stop. This little baby just popped out of the backland prairie, not even close to a creek, or possible camp: I've also found a few shards of pottery: I've started watching these dudes on Youtube: I pretty much knew where to find them, they just removed any doubt. I'm gonna do some digging on the flat area above a spring on my small acreage. There are several waterfalls before it dumps into the Brazos. I'm going to screen all of the sediment in each of the pools below the falls and see what I come up with as well. CHIEF

  24. Will vouch. When I'm out on the lake idling in the middle doing wake boat shit and a sail comes anywhere near me I cut the engine just to hear the water slapping her hull as she knifes by through the water. Something hypnotic and elegant about it, even from a bit of distance. Of course, shortly after I fire back up, turn the stereo volume to eleven, and crank up the Whitesnake because I promised to follow the Wake Boat code when making the purchase.

  26. I'm not sure I entirely agree with your fatalism at this point. I can see our long awaited need to get this going as I type... @HenryJames: They want us to send closetojumping to hear the proposition. And the promise is that the deal is so good that we can't refuse. @SydneyCarton: No more meetin's, no more discussions, no more NCAA tricks. closetojumping: We can't wait. I don't care what the NCAA says about a deal, they're gonna keep letting the cheaters cheat, that's it. That's the key for them. Gotta get the infrastructure to compete. They wanna have a meeting with Stewart, right? It will be me, Valai, Dameyune Craig, and Stewart. Let's set the meeting. Get our informers to find out where it's gonna be held. Now, we insist it's a public place, a bar, a restaurant, some place where there's people so I feel safe. They're gonna search me when I first meet them, right? So I can't have a bag of money on me then. But if HenryJames can figure a way to have a bag planted there for me, then I'll kill 'em both by beatin' em to the punch and get the bag in Stewart's hands. SydneyCarton: [Smiles] Hey, whatcha gonna do, nice college boy, eh? Didn't want to get mixed up in the dirty business, huh? Now you wanna bag down a bag captain cuz he stole Demarvion Leal in front of your face? Hah? What do you think this is, the 80's?, where you report 'em a mile away? You've gotta get up close like this and bada-bing, you blow your money bag all over their nice ATM overalls and Bama track suit! Come here! [kisses closetojumping's hand] closetojumping: Sydney... SydneyCarton: You're taking this very personal. Huckleberry, this is business and this man is taking it very personal. closetojumping: Where does it say that you can't start dropping bags?...I'm talking about a bag that's needed to land recruits. I'm talking about a big bag and a necessary bag needed to get dropped and get us what was coming to us. That'd make a helluva story. Now we got people in the in the hiring ranks, and the start-up ranks, and the digital crowdsourcing ranks, right Huck? They might like a story like that. @Huckleberry: They might; they just might. closetojumping: It's not futile, Sydney. It's strictly business.

TCU, who looks like the best team in the conference, got blown out by Texas State and lost to Sam Houston State. Yeah, we shouldn't be losing to inferior teams but shit happens in baseball.

  32. Uh, yeah--legislation is generally seen through a political lens. This isn't a serious issue. Nobody can seriously pretend that the Texas Legislature needs to spend even a nanosecond on this because some transgender kid won a state championship in Connecticut. So since this isn't a serious issue, I think it's fair to consider why we're taking up this non-serious issue. And it's apparent. It's the standard Republican playbook of finding an "other" against whom it can rally its base. In 2016, it was immigrants. In 2012, it was gays. In the 1980s and 90s, it was black people. it's the standard Republican playbook because that's how they keep their base of poor, uneducated white people vote for people who don't give a fuck about them and only vote for tax cuts for the rich and fewer regulations for corporations. Why am I so "worked up" about this one? Because it's particularly disgusting. It literally targets children. Children who are, it must be pointed out, already vulnerable. Transgender kids are much more likely to suffer from depression, and they're much more likely to attempt suicide. So do you think that villainizing them and trying to exclude them from extracurricular activities is likely to mitigate that? Or do you think it's likely to make that worse? It's fucking despicable. "Calm down"? How about you and your entire despicable party go fuck yourselves.

  33. That is another point. We are a country with 330 million people. There are a lot of guns. And the war on drugs, which is futile, expensive and destroys lives. Still your odds of being shot by a cop whether white or black are tiny. And if you do not resist, you probably are more likely to be eaten by sharks. I would end the war on drugs yesterday. Legalize them all. Spend money on treatment. Empty out our jail cells and restore the civil rights of all nonviolent drug offenders. My gun control would be throwing anyone who commits any crime with a gun (murder, robbery, rape, kidnapping, etc.) in jail for about 40 years. You will have plenty of empty space. 95% of cops can go back to carrying a 38 special with normal ball ammo. Our murder rate would plummet.

  34. Fleck was multiple years into his 2nd HC gig when his hair went; Franklin's hairline is difficult to decipher when he was at Maryland, but I'll give it to you. Good call on Nagy, but even the stigma of being a bald offensive coach can be overcome by standing on Andy Reid's shoulders. McVay, Kliff, Belly Tat, Freshwater, Sark, Shanahan all come to mind before Franklin and Nagy when I think of offensive coaches. Conversely: Anyways, I apologize to all for this digression. And in particular to @Ricky's one-hitter who was deeply upset by my take. I hope in the future we can achieve equal representation for all demographics across all coaching positions, especially the bald.

  35. This is an important point, because these bills have a lot of variation, but they all ignore this point. How exactly are you drawing a line between which female athlete has too much testosterone to be considered "female" for purposes of playing high school basketball? Oh, don't worry about testosterone levels, you say--even though that's the source of the transgender athlete's presumed advantage--just worry about what's between his/her legs. In which case I really look forward to all y'all fathers who are suddenly so passionate about women's athletics (despite having opposed Title VII for the past 40 years) saying to the school district "yeah, sure--feel free to give my daughter a pelvic exam to make sure that's a bona fide vagina." And, yeah--I'm specifically calling out you, @Johnny Sack.

  38. Oh, that's fun--let's run the testosterone levels of adolescents and them make them public by stratifying them in different leagues. I don't see any prospect for bullying there. And I sure as shit don't foresee how that could result in any psychological trauma. Jesus fucking Christ--do some of y'all not think about shit before typing it on this board and hitting "Submit Reply"?
