There are 3 routes in today's recruiting landscape for Texas to go, now that the SEC has fully invaded the state with a flood of money and corruption, led by and thanks to the mouthbreathing shit heels in College Station. 1) Georgia/Tenn/ATM route - straight-up slinging money overtly to recruits, handlers, and families. This works on some level, but there are families and recruits that aren't going to be wowed solely by $50k-$200k, depending upon the recruit. This angle also involves character risk. 2) Bama/USC/Ohio State - do the deals when you have to do them, but don't sacrifice for character and fall back on being a blue blood with a ton of advantages and the longer game for recruits once their career is over. Cherry-pick the portal as you deem appropriate. (Please don't insult this board's intelligence with some pedantic take involving recency bias about why USC shouldn't be listed here, this is who they historically are.) 3) Oklahoma/Iowa State - find your guys and get them every time, avoid the full-blown auctions because they're not worth your time due to the character/culture clash they usually bring to the lunchpail business. Play the portal to your advantage and build classes with it in mind. 4) Texas/Notre Dame/Michigan - be a patrician dipshit without an apparatus for getting guys you need, claim piety, and roll with whoever your blue blood status still enables you to land. This is no longer an option in this state and this has been abandoned by the staff. It appears that the staff is going to go the route of option 2. It is going to be interesting to see what happens in the clash between that route and the dipshits in-state and invading the state with option 1. NIL's arrival cannot get here soon enough. Bear Alexander and his handler are overtly running an auction for visits, commits, and ink. It will finish in the 6 figures for a player that already shows flakiness with transfers and character issues inherent with the behavior I just described. There's a reason Bama isn't pushing for a guy like this. He's a mercenary with risk all over him. Texas will be foolish to even host him on campus at all from here forward. Things went well this past weekend, but let's see who all is wowed by straight bankroll and who isn't. I expect Texas to land a stud class, but the DB end can hurt. Brooks is going to sign with Bama. ATM is throwing money at the problem. Texas needs to sign Allen, Anderson, Guilbeau and Harris. A whiff on most of them will suck because they're all elite in some form. I expect Texas to be fine and figure it out. This is a big cycle for all kinds of reasons, and it will tell us a lot about this staff's ability to get things done when they need to while still finding their guys who love football and may or may not be 5 stars, but develop either way into animals. Could do more but got to get back to legit work. Sorry for typos, I'll proofread and edit this stream of consciousness later.31 points

For someone always says they don't mind paying more. And would willingly pay more, he sure goes out of his way to make sure it doesn't happen.12 points

I'm going to laugh very, very hard if Texas winds up with Bear Alexander. I'll definitely have mixed emotions, kind of like watching Nick Saban going off a cliff in my new Maserati.10 points

Maybe they shouldn't act like the SEC is the best at everything and the only conference that matters all the time if they don't want to torpedo their own ratings when reality hits.10 points

I caught up some yesterday. ATM's hiring of Nick Williams away from Georgia should signal to everyone that they're going to do what they desperately need to do in order to sign anyone who is pretty much only about the money. They're getting as brazen with their activities now as they've been at Georgia, with Williams in the middle on both fronts. Bear Alexander is a prime example here, and Williams is the connect. If you see someone like Denver Harris taking a midweek visit to ATM after he's straight-up ghosted them, you know the recruits are talking and the buzz is that ATM will get you paid. Staff and Jimbo are openly talking about "taking care of the family" when the parents visit his ranch while the recruits are hosted with an embarrassment of party and luxury riches. Fisher has a growing concern that you can't actually win at ATM. If they buy a bunch of top 3 classes and still can't get it over the hump, he doesn't want to miss a shot in Baton Rouge. Will see how the window works out. ATM isn't kicking ass in the portal because a) they've not planned for it well and are scouting and reacting within it poorly and b) players who have been on campuses somewhere and already gotten paid aren't as gung ho to further relegate themselves into a new shithole. This is a tell to the staff at this point that it's not exactly an equitable shangri-la to recruit to compared to places like Austin, Los Angeles or football hotbeds with rabid fans that aren't also fucking weirdos. That's all shit to watch.10 points

A close friend, one of my somewhat older student "mentors" in HS died of Covid this weekend. Super smart guy, we went to engineering undergrad together, fully vaccinated, but he caught the virus before building full immunity. Spent over a month in ICU and eventually succumbed. Salt of the earth. Not a science-denying racist shitbag like Deputy Fife, just someone who got a little unlucky. . . . and this is why I get so pissed at the anti-mask, anti-vaccine crowd. You're killing my friends.9 points

I am not going to make fun of Babayaga since t is fairly clear this is someone that has been pulled directly into a conspiracy rabbit hole. While I think it would be great if we didn’t have people who were susceptible to being taken in by wild conspiracy theories I think this continued insistence from them on digging in and telling all of us that this is a multi-layered conspiracy shows you exactly why people like Trump succeed at what they do. They find marks and they feed them exactly what they want to hear to the point that it does not matter what factual information you counter with. They will have something new everyday from either an obscure source or one that is demonstrably false to the “non-believer” but is gospel to them. Again I wish we didn’t have millions of our fellow citizens exhibiting the exact behavior we are seeing in this thread because it just exacerbates the amount of work to be done to eradicate the conspiratorial mindset that is hindering society as a whole right now.8 points

Here's a few I took from last night. It was total chaos. Must have had like 10 beers and hammered drunk. Voice was shot at work today. Mexican fans around me were generally ok. My group repeatedly made a mockery out of then by chanting "OU sucks" or "SEC! SEC! SEC!" every time they started that Mexico Mexico Mexico chant.8 points

That article is pretty misleading, we don't have wealth tax we have a income tax. Using unrealized gains to then try and illustrate a low tax rate is not really fair. I live in Austin, do I have to count all the unrealized gains in my house value this year and pay taxes on that?7 points

Personally, I pay as much as I can. There is no way that I would ever ask questions to inform myself about tax ramifications, ask for tax advice, plan for tax savings, pay an accountant and incorporate legal tax strategies based on current tax code and tax law. I like taxes. Will you let me pay yours?6 points

I’ve been reading this forum for several months and I joined just to say - what the fuck are you doing here? Run back to the sheep fuckers, you stupid gomer. Nobody gives a shit about your aggy take. I swear to god, even reading these godawful retard takes makes me dumber.6 points

I haven't decided whether we're going to the funeral yet; it's my call, because this aunt fucked over my wife multiple times over a lifetime -- wife's mother's youngest sister is dead from COVID. Her husband? On a respirator, with COVID. They chose (and have a doctor from their church who prescribed) hydrochloroquine. Because duh, Trumpublicans. I really don't feel good about saying "So fucking what" when someone dies, but the truth is, the world is better off without her. There's no objective standard by which you can say anything else. The only conversations beyond three words her husband ever contributed to were defending aggy culture, so I feel like I really don't need to draw up any pictures for anybody of who we're talking about here. They are... WERE... stupid beyond belief. Republican to the core. And nobody is really gonna miss them. That is just a sad fucking epitaph. I won't be this honest about it when speaking publicly, because there is nothing to be gained from speaking ill of the dead. But this is an anonymous forum, and I see no reason not to be honest -- they were stupid, and selfish, and the world is better off without them.6 points

All of this. Probably the most understated thing about Herman is that he was 90% right about pretty much everything. That 10% was infuriating as fuck, and absolutely merited showing him the door, but he did build a team capable of winning every fucking game. Wasn't gonna happen with him calling the shots, but then, he's not calling the shots this year, is he? If this team loses 4 games overall, then Sarkisian's seat will be and should be hot as fuck.6 points

Well, there is a third narrative, that's legitimate. And that is that we should do an investigation and debriefing on what went wrong and what went right and why. And, like "voter fraud" and "election security," the ones pushing the Fauci narrative mostly for Trump Was RIght reasons will fall back on the legitimate investigation narrative when the absurdity of pushing the other two is revealed. And the Trump Was Right crowd will also co-opt the opinions and possibly leadership of people with the legitimate interests to make their own narrative appear more palatable or legitimate. I'm still a conservative in that I am not anxious to just hand over entire regimes of social responsibility and welfare to the gubmint, especially the federal gubmint. But it's necessary. And the gubmint should be investigated, held accountable, and changed legislatively more often than it is. I am not an adherent of the burn it all down school of thought, or stupid as it were.6 points

I talked to a friend today about this past weekend and the next few coming up. He’s not a Texas guy but he’s in on all of it. We talked Arch, ATM, LSU, Bama, Texas, Keynote George, Beard, Sarkisian, and a bunch of 2022 and 2023 guys. Bear Alexander’s recruitment, you name it. Not once did either of us even mention Ewers. That dude is gone unless he shifts gears like right now.6 points
