  1. Scoring a touchdown on the opening drive of the second half was an interesting strategy I haven’t seen in a while

  2. two situations i saw today that stood out: 1. 3rd and 9. we run it because we already know we’re going for it on 4th and whatever. we do, and we get it. 2. 2nd and short. we take a shot deep because we’re confident we can pick up 3rd and 2. we do. having a playcaller that sees more than one play at a time is refreshing. for 15 years we lose a yard on first down and we seem absolutely shocked on 2nd and 11 like holy shit how did this happen? we may be good, we may be great. regardless, this part of the game was noticeably improved.

  3. Purposely bought west side, row 52 for the shade. It paid off big time as was never really uncomfortable. Older alumni were okay with me standing and making noise for the D. Most of them joined in as well but they were gone early in the 4th. We entered early to see the museum again, so no issues at the gate. I will say the phone scanning tech just plain blows. It is the same way at Austin FC games with 20k. No surprise it is exacerbated with 100k at dkr. I love Earl Campbell. Hopefully, it is not uncomfortable for him that I love him this much. A real treat to see him on field....except the camera man sucked with his zoom in that couldn't handle a seated Earl next to a standing Ricky. Dumbfuck. Concessions were a disaster but I expected as much. If restaurants can't get workers, I can imagine the line is short to work in UT concession stands during a 97 degree game. Those hot boxes have to reach 110 degrees on a day like today. f that The deep eddy stand in nez is awesome, wish there were more stands. My daughter went with me. I always get teary eyed during the pregame eyes, when one of the kids is there with me. I owe our great school all that is good in my life.

  7. Congrats y’all! I always root for Saban’s former assistants to do well - especially guys like Sark. And I know what it feels like to be a fan of a team with a great history but not so great present. Looks like Sark might be the guy. And it’s very clear Sark really learned a lot from Saban - what with him hollering at a hapless staff member even while winning big lol.

  8. The most important takeaway? Their QB did not look like a Heisman candidate. For years now, QBs have been playing the game of their lives against us while announcers gush over them. Not a damn word about how dangerous, skilled, or amazing he was yesterday. It was a breath of fresh air.

  10. Return of the RV! This week, the RV makes its first trip since it came off the disabled list with a bad scalp job by yours truly outside the basketball hall of game to ferry our fearless leader @immamac, our podcasting hero @RGBIII, and someone else I don’t know to fayetnam where we will see if we can’t raise hell, cause trouble and burn that fucking town to the ground. Arkansas barely beat Rice. At a minimum they fuck their cousins, and maybe, in some circles, their sisters. They are terrible and we should win convincingly. Also, will be interesting to see Hudson Card in his first road game against SEC (ish) talent. What I saw today left me very very very pleased with that young man.

  11. LSU goes 5-5 last year and quits before the bowl season. They replace both coordinators and spend the entire offseason mired in scandal. They lose their presumptive starting QB as camp starts. Then, to open their season, they show up (checks notes) … ranked 16th and 5 spots ahead of Texas? I mean that is fucking absurd. There was nothing to justify that ranking other than thoughtless “meeehhhh, SECSECSEC” bullshit from the voters. Last night’s outcome shouldn’t even be a surprise.

  12. We have a coach who isn't an overt fucker, who understands things like context in terms of play calling, and playing the best players. Listening to him answer questions is a goddamned breath of fresh air. I can't remember another time in the last 15 years that I watched our first game and marveled at how prepared we were.

  13. I saw a lot to like, outside of an OL that looked weak most of the time. The SEZ is awesome. It was like a soft opening because there were so many kinks left to work out, but they fucking killed it with that thing. First class all around. We were in the shade the entire time. I felt for the fans on the east side, man. There was more ass than a toilet seat in the SEZ. Legit 9’s and 10’s walking around. The suites to our left and right were both empty from halftime onward. They were either inside watching with the AC or hammered all of their booze from the coolers in the first half and peaced out. I met Brian Jones and bullshitted with him for a hot minute. Great dude. Crystal was walking around and gladhanding, as he should be. @SydneyCarton was in awe and when he came over to chat with us, Sydney confessed to being his biggest fan. His wife had to intercede so he’d stop stammering and yammering. It was grim. A lot of good comments here cover most of what I saw. Jamison returned from injury and was fine on kickoff. I think they were comfortable rotating others and letting him rest at CB. Funny thing with all of the rotating - I didn’t see Crawford at CB once and didn’t see Collins much on the DL either. Something that really fucking pissed me off was Napier at the end of the game. Three minutes left, you’re down by 20 to a better team in 100 degree weather, but you’re trying to score, to the tune of exhausting your fucking timeouts with under a minute left. The guy risked starter injuries for both teams not for a chance to get the lead, not to cover, but to look better on fucking paper than they did on the field. It was a forced charade so he could dishonestly talk his team up in the future. I hope that motherfucker rots in Lafayette.

  14. This was my takeaway from today's game. We have a coaching staff full of adults making sound, thoughtful, effective, adult decisions. I can't even remember the last time I had that feeling.

  18. We won the last SWC title, the first big 12 title and I’ll be damned if we don’t win the last one with us in the conference. We’re going to fuck OU up unless they can get a new defense over the next month!

  19. Oh, and also Bijan and Rojo on the field at the same time, and it wasnt just for one play. Who knew that was allowed? Almost seems unfair to have Bijan, Rojo, Wittington, Worthy all out there on the SAME play. Revolutionary stuff for sure..it's almost like our coach wants the best players on the field together.

  21. All I remember about the 2004 game was some piece of shit Arkansas defender who blatantly tried to fuck up VY’s ankle on a tackle. It was shown on replay and I was livid. Fuck any of this former-conference and future-conference brotherly love. Fuck Arkansas. Fuck that college, fuck that entire state, and fuck Walmart.

  25. For the next couple games, start making a lot of spastic movements with your arms and legs, and apologize to those around you for your “ medical condition”. Then get the largest, sweetest, stickiest beverage they sell at DKR an spill it on her during one of your “spasms”. Maybe a couple times in one game, if she still doesn’t move, repeat next game .

  27. And he was effusive in his praise for Sarkisian. That was noticeable, and probably influenced what I thought of the overall broadcast. I do admit that when their mics weren’t working at the beginning of the game, I was hoping they wouldn’t get fixed.

  32. I DVR’d the game and need to watch it tonight, because Card didn’t seem as good from the stands as his stat line showed. A few overthrows and he looked like he had happy feet in the pocket. But no turnovers, and overall he had a solid game for his first start as a redshirt freshman, and I don’t think he gave the coaches a reason to re-evaluate the starting QB. And I’m out of playing shape after missing the 2020 season. I drank more beer yesterday than I have in a long time and am feeling pretty shitty this morning.

  34. Reading the last couple pages of this thread, I can't help but jump in here. I'm a molecular biologist. I'm happy to verify with the mods, just PM me so I don't dox myself. I have not read most of this thread, so I apologize if what I'm about to say is redundant. Unless you are significantly immunocompromised, frail, living in a long term care facility, or specifically told to by your health care professional, I would encourage everyone to hold off getting a third shot for several reasons. 1. Efficacy against severe disease/hospitalization/death is still holding up well. The Israeli data that a lot of the panic is based on is a statistical anomaly, discussed in detail here. The vast majority of breakthrough cases in healthy people are very mild. The severe cases are concentrated among those that are extremely frail and with a significant number of comorbidities. 2. We have no high power studies examining the safety of a third shot. I'm at a loss why this would be publicly announced before we had clear data that this is a safe choice. 3. We have no idea if giving subsequent shots will reduce the efficacy of the delivery system. We know this is happening with the adenovirus vector vaccines (J&J and Astrazeneca). The mRNA is encapsulated in a lipid shell. It is possible that the immune system will begin to recognize this as foreign, mount a response against it, and develop memory. This could result in every mRNA vaccine you receive going forward will become less and less effective. This could have really significant consequences, because not only will mRNA vaccines likely continue to be the first vaccines available in future pandemics/health crises, but these also have huge potential to be very effective tools against cancer. To me, it seems like a pretty poor tradeoff to get a third shot to prevent a cold in exchange for potentially limiting your options to respond to significant health issues down the road. There are several ongoing studies that are examining the efficacy and safety of mixing and matching vaccines. I'm middle aged and don't have any known health issues, so I've made up my mind to not get another mRNA shot or a J&J shot for COVID as long as something crazy doesn't happen like efficacy against severe disease plummeting. The studies I'm waiting for revolve around Novavax. This is a subunit vaccine (injects the spike protein directly) much like the flu shot, and it will mitigate the risks I outlined in point 3. As long as the safety/efficacy data of using Novavax after vaccination with an mRNA vaccine looks good I will be willing to roll up my sleeve again. And for those that haven't, I strongly suggest you read the article in my prior post. The immune system is a highly complex and dynamic thing. Antibodies alone do not tell the complete story of protection, so don't freak out if you don't have enough antibodies to pay off the Loch Ness monster. Just food for thought. I'm happy to answer questions.
