  5. I'll regret this later, I'm sure. Agree with this wholeheartedly. One of the main reasons I moved away from the church (LCMS) was the fundamental silly simplicity of thought. It all boils down to "The Bible is the literal Truth of everything" which is patently ridiculous. Nobody every wants to discuss why Sin is bad. Sin is bad because it leads us from God. An act is not bad on it's face unless it leads us away from God. That still leaves plenty of opportunities to sin without having to make a stupid list and include a bunch of things that EVERYONE does. Our human nature leads us to sin, not because it causes us to do human things, but because we do them in selfish and hurtful ways. I won't even go into the absolute goofiness of having to believe the outlandish shit in the Bible actually happened for it to count. Jonah doesn't have to be an historical event for the story to work. Nor does the flood or any of the other "miracles". Whether any of these things really happened or not doesn't change the moral of the stories. It's easy for me to understand the point of a parable or an allegory without having to make the ridiculous jump to "Bible says it happened so it did." Pretty much anything in the Bible that was oral tradition, should be treated as morality fable. It still works the same way and you don't have to lie to yourself about how it actually happened that way. The idea that God couldn't inspire these stories to point the direction versus actually performing the miracles, diminishes God, it doesn't strengthen him. Then Jesus came along and said this is the New Testament and clarified that God is Love and therefor to come to God you must love one another as God loves us. The sacrifice of the Lamb is a beautiful thing in itself, and you don't need to get bogged down in the minutia of Law and literal ism to understand how to come to God. It's impossible for me to reconcile how two adult human beings in a loving relationship can be a bad thing in that context. Yes, our humanity makes us sinful in the context that God is the perfect embodiment of Love. We fail at being that every day and can only try our best, but to actively judge and ostracize another person for those same failings is insane. Any belief that required me to ignore what I know to be true, and dumb it down to "God gave us this book 2000 years ago and every word is true, and if you don't believe that then you can't come to God" should be offensive to God himself, if he made us in his image. It requires us to reject objective reality for no damned reason at all except someone too stupid to understand what it's really saying says so. More importantly, it actually leads us away from God which is the greatest sin of all.

  6. When I saw a screenshot of this tweet, I thought it had to be photoshopped. Nope, it’s real. Disgusting. I was looking at Teslas for a daily city driver, but that’s a hard no from me, now. And if he buys Twitter, then I’m off that platform, too. He’s far from the world’s savior and great innovator. The Thomas Edison comparison is pretty spot on.

  8. You're new here, so folks are letting the stupid slide, but that could merely encourage more stupid in the future. So let me help you out - do not ever cheer for Oklahoma for any reason whatsoever. Ever. It never fucking works out and you just wind up feeling dirty either way. Every time idiots have shown up on the Internet and shouted about "needing to cheer for OU" because of such and such scenario they have been wrong and were roundly mocked for it. Morons cheered for OU to beat A&M, Okie State and Tech in 2008 "because we need the OU win to look as good as possible" after losing to Tech. OU promptly went out and blew those fucking teams out and jumped Texas in the BCS due to recency bias. Fuck rooting for OU. If OU is playing the Taliban, I'm wearing a turban in the stands and declaring jihad. If OU is playing Satan and an army of demons, I'm wearing an inverted pentagram necklace and shouting in tongues for the Dark Prince. Get your shit together.

  10. well. i have unsurprisingly been unable to find an adequate Texmex enchilada here in Denver. i mean i knew it was a long shot but i kept thinking, hey, this is a big city, surely there's some mom-and-pop hole in the wall place with folks from the valley or San Antonio or somewhere who opened a secret true Texmex joint here. alas...no. while we have found very delicious Mexican food of the NM/CO variety...sadly no joy on the enchiladas. the key missing ingredient imo is the chili con carne... it's been replaced with green chili in every dish 😐 anyway... so tonight i am attempting my own enchiladas. American cheese, meat gravy, and onions baked on top! my inspiration... using the ISD recipe as a base...wish me luck! 😜

  14. This post hit me hard. Flashbacks to Sarajevo. Same fucking tactics, just hammer those who won't surrender. It is a national version of rape. Shut up or I will smack you. Oh, you want water? let me break the well. Oh, you want food, lets blow up the market. This is a Rose of Sarajevo. Fuck them. Russia has no way out, they must be denied, for this generation, entry into the west. Go protest, say no. Look at the women of Iran for inspiration you potato eating, vodka drinking, Lada driving, bunch of fucking GOPNIKS. May you all squat on a RPG-7 round. Go Ukraine, kick their asses.

  15. Bombing a ferry that may be taking civilians out is not ok. Hell, it’s not like the folks in Hiroshima did not know they were at war with America, but we still dropped pre-Fat Boy warnings. I agree they made a choice, but you lose nothing with a warning - and you deprive them of a PR/propaganda coup of dead kids/civilians killed by Ukraine. After the warning, FAFO is the consequence, and I am on board with whatever happens. Again, there is no down side with giving a warning I can think of, save depriving Karma of some well deserved pain.

  16. Last time I talked to my mom she told me she had recently seen on fb that someone was walking around the hike and bike trail with a machete and I need to be careful if I venture downtown. I pointed out that it's legal to walk around town with an AR15, which seems like a bigger problem and she argued that a machete in the wrong hands is much more dangerous.

  17. Your wife should be on board for berating them, too. Letting our parents fester into an abscess of right wing misinformation is a huge part of the problem. I'm certainly not innocent and let my dad go way too far down the rabbit hole before we had a come to Jesus moment and he realized that he was furthering a system that attacks his daughter. He isn't "fully reformed" or whatever term you want to use, but he's much more circumspect and thorough in examining issues and claims he comes across online. Things are better.

  23. Yeah, gosh golly, this is really gonna catch Norway off-guard. Norway would NEVER think of having to defend against Russian aggression. CSB: we hosted a Norwegian exchange student, she is genuinely like a daughter to me. Taught her to shoot she was here. Gave her a head start when she was called up for military service a year later. She served in security for the Norwegian AF, patrolled the base, on a pretty rugged island, including night patrols etc. When we asked her “yeah, but what are you doing?”, she just smiled - “hunting Russians.” She’s a kind, decent, pretty Norwegian girl….and she made it clear that she’d have gladly shot Russians till she ran out of ammo. Hell, at this point, I kinda wish a Rooskie would. The Norgies would take great pleasure in administering a healthy dose of “finding out.”

  25. Why would you ever want to kill FEWER of them? You've got them in a box. Close the walls in on them, relentlessly. Kill everything inside the box. Because if you kill it today, you don't have to defend against its attacks tomorrow. If Russia survives, every living combat-capable Russian is a weapon remaining to be deployed against Ukraine. Better to kill them now, while they're in your crosshairs. Mercy comes after your enemy's surrender, not a moment before. War is a brutal, ugly business. Which is why one should really think fucking hard before starting one. Fuck around. Find out.
