  1. So this issue has recently become very personal to me. Let’s just say I can now testify from personal experience that, as I’ve long believed, there are a multitude of situations in which “abortion care” (in quotes to ensure a very broad interpretation) becomes a true medical necessity, and this renewed wave of faux religious bullshit has made true medical needs excruciatingly difficult and traumatic to obtain, for no other reason than people’s narcissism and refusal to accept that the issue is way, way broader than terminating a fetus as a form of birth control. Not sure if and when I’ll be ready to talk in more details here, but there are situations that these zealots either refuse to believe exist, or know exist and still support complete bans on “abortion care” (again broadly quoted), the latter of which are truly monstrous people if they know and still support putting women through literal nightmarish experiences.

  5. WARNING! Drunk lawyer war story! Trump‘s lawyer who crossed stormy reminds me of an attorney for Traveler’s insurance who attacked my very sketchy client in a jury trial when I was a young lawyer. It is gospel among good plaintiff trial lawyers that you are never rude and in attack mode on a witness unless you have an unusually bad witness who’s done truly terrible things that you can easily prove. Jurors do not like to watch you being mean to a witness. Period. This defense attorney’s demeanor was resting bitch face when she was at her best, but most of the time she was scowling and almost scream-spitting at my witnesses. Let me repeat, my case was so friggin horrible that the insurance company took a meager cost of defense settlement off the table on the day of trial. During the direct of my client, she pulled out a deposition and started grilling him in a similar bunny in the pot/I won ‘t be ignored type manner - like stormy was grilled but worse. She exaggerated what my client had said, and not so subtly misrepresented some of his deposition testimony in questions. As the cross went on, I could see her thinking she had a killshot about his drinking before the accident happened. She bowed up, shoved the deposition in his face, and insisted that he read that she thought was different than his trial testimony. He shook his head and declined, and before the judge could intervene to instruct him to answer, she went on a tear about not being honest with the jury and refusing to read the deposition to them. At that moment, several big tears dribbled down his cheek. He swallowed, turned to the jury and told them, “I’m sorry I never learned to read.” I won the trial with a 9-3 plaintiff verdict. I can honestly say I never could’ve done it without her. I was getting some of that vibe as I read some of the transcript of today’s hearing. Being Nasty to Stormy will make Trump very happy, but there is a fair to good chance that it pushes the jury away from Trump and his lawyers more than they needed. tl;dr I think being mean to Stormy on cross today backfired Bigly

  16. Just like the "grab 'em by the pussy" audiotape was sure to do 2 weeks before the election in 2016? Or the "just find me 11,000 votes" tape from Georgia? Or the J6 insurrection unfolding live on TV for hours? Trump is the fucking Terminator. He's an indestructible exoskeleton of evil stupidity wrapped in rotting orange flesh, fried food grease, and shit. It's like that scene in Platoon when Chris realizes Barnes killed Elias and he's trying to get the other grunts to frag him as payback. Rhah reminds everyone that Barnes had been shot six times already and he wasn't dead yet. "The only thing that can kill Barnes...is Barnes." Insert Trump.

  17. And as always, the person who rolls in and says it will be literal hell if Biden wins never seems to be able to articulate any particular policy reasons why what he is saying is true. If you push them on it, he would just say, “everybody knows that.” That’s the thing, I’m quite sure everyone at his church and the people where he works, and his neighbors who are Trumpers all shake their head and agree, and not one of them articulate anything besides ‘secure the border’. We never got the chance to ask him why Trump killed the border deal after the Democrats leaned over backward and met the GOP more than halfway. Who am I kidding? Trump fans do not really care about the facts - because they are not voting for Trump because of facts or policy. We got ‘border’ and ‘businessman’ out of him, and that’s all we were ever going to get.

  21. Man, I'm bursting with pride over my younger UT kid. I thought he'd get clobbered at this school. Dude just crushed it this spring and one of his profs asked him to submit his semester project to his department's undergrad journal. His sister is the definition of a high achiever, I never worry about her. Killing it at school, working her ass off at a high-stress job, and playing in a touring rock band. No concern. Her little brother? Man, I can't believe he's getting it done. That kid is gonna get a degree from UT! Being a dad rocks. All my best to all y'all's kids.

  22. After a hurricane, a whole shit ton of power line poles needed to be replaced. The local electric company hired a crew of UT grads, a team of Rice grads, and a team of aTm grads to do the work. After the first day, the crews came back to the foreman and he asked how man poles they got put in. The Rice crew said "we got 28 put in today." The UT crew said, "we got 30 put in today." The aTm crew looked at the foreman and said, "we got 3 put in!" The flabbergasted foreman looked at the aTm lead and said, "wtf, man!? Why'd you only get 3 done when the Texas guys and Rice guys got 30 and 28?" The aTm lead, with a smug look on his face, said to the foreman, "You should see how much of the pole they left sticking out of the ground!"

  24. The Cryptobro flavor of this is even more amazingly stupid. “The world will collapse and all critical infrastructure with it. No power, no telecommunications, no internet. Fiat currency will be worthless. Worthless! The only usable money will be entries on a digital ledger that can be exchanged only by running computationally intensive algorithms running on massive, power-guzzling data centers accessed over the Internet.”

  27. I just read this whole thread, so I wanted to jump in here. First of all, I appreciate everyone's opinion. And more specifically I agree with some folks here about certain issues. I want everyone to know that we don't think or expect the OTF message board to be for everyone. In fact, we know it won't be. It's simply not what we're attempting to do. There are already places where people are comfortable and where they enjoy being. SurlyHorns is a perfect example of this. Folks enjoy this place. Clearly. Hell, I enjoy it when I come over here, that's one of the reasons I first reached out to Rick, so I totally get it. The second part is really important to me and why we manage the OTF message board the way we do in comparison to other "premium" sites... When I say dozens of recruits, parents of recruits, and parents of existing players on the team watch or listen to OTF daily, it is a very real thing. I think every single recruit who committed to Texas last year - all of them - knows and has watched OTF. I'm not saying that to brag, I'm saying it because that specific viewership brings a certain level of responsibility to OTF as it relates to the university on the whole. In my opinion, it's important to have a place like the OTF message boards and a site like OTF to be relatively clean. Not without opinion mind you, but certainly one that would not shock the system of newcomers either. I feel like OTF does a really good job of holding up that end of the bargain, and we will continue to do so. The third thing is this: While Surly is primarily a message board/community. OTF is primarily a news service with a community attached. OTF is much more like Orangebloods, Inside Texas or Horns247. Each of those sites, I have found through the years, gets extremely provincial. They don't like it when another site is referenced or they get petty about their own reporting, etc. I've been doing this stuff for 30 years and I'm just done with that. I also know that some parents of recruits sometimes subscribe to those sites, visit the message boards, and they see a bunch of in-fighting, followed by nudie pics, name calling, or cliques that live to make fun of others, and the parents immediately think to themselves, what the hell is going on at Texas? Is that's what's best for Texas? So for me, this is NOT about OTF vs OB. Or OTF vs IT. This is really about Texas vs the rest of college football/college sports. And that's what I want the focus of OTF to be about. We appreciate everyone who has joined OTF. We're doing our best to bring you news whether it's via video/podcast or the website and I think we're doing it in a way that is best for all involved. It won't be for everyone and we get that. I just appreciate the folks who have given us a chance and who continue to support what we're trying to do. Thanks, Bobby
