  1. @Horn75 You've inspired me today. First, my wife and I voted at a library next to a junior high. Then we found some 8th graders walking home from school after their sex changes, and asked how many were in the country illegally. All of them were, so we took them to the library and of course they were waved right into the polling place, and we gave them $20 each to vote. Well, except for the one who said he felt Trump was "strong for America" and that he likes Trump's policies on restrictive zoning in suburbs. We reported She/Her to Jose Garza who threw they/them in jail under the Biden/Harris speech code. The rest of they/them took their $20 to your house and your wife was home. She definitely seems like a Harris/Walz voter.

  5. As a veteran and former voter for Republicans I am perpetually disgusted by everything Trump and his supporters do. Fuck them all to hell. Every one of them. Many should be imprisoned for their behavior and the people of color who vote for him deserve to be rounded up and deported immediately if he is elected ( as he’s essentially promised). Here’s a little voting anecdote for y’all. We’re south Austinites. My 50-something year old wife grew up with evangelical “Christian” Republican parents like me. We met as kids in church. She protested for the anti-abortion position at the Jimmy Carter Democratic National convention as a teen. Since we’ve been married she’s been very disinterested in politics and I would always have to try to talk her into voting and she would frequently be “too busy” to vote or “forget” to vote. Since Monday morning she’s been begging me to go vote with her. Totally new behavior for her. She also asked me to help her put together a voting list that has zero Repubs on it and as many anti-Republican positions as possible. She is disgusted by Trump and our parents who support him. She dragged me to the polls twice on Monday and twice yesterday, but the long lines deterred her. Last night after dinner she asked me if I wanted to try again to go vote with her. I said, nah, I’ll try again on Thursday since I had a business trip today. So she left by herself but the line was long again and she bailed. While I was on my flight this morning, she texted that she was in line to vote. And had waited almost an hour. I nearly cried. So proud!

  6. Wow. This really touches a painful place for me and makes me angrier than I thought it would. They should saturate TV markets in cities and social media with this, but especially they should put this into heavy rotation on Fox News, because it’s important no matter who wins. There’s very well known and very prominent Republican here in Austin who was my wife’s OB/GYN from 2000-2008. He performed the D&C on my wife when we lost our first pregnancy and subsequently treated us with incredible kindness patience, and compassion as we went on to have our two daughters. I wonder how he would react to this, or the hundreds of thousands of husbands my age and older, now fathers and grandfathers, who have had a similar experience, and yet intend to vote for Donald Trump.

  7. A few years ago I was at the William Cannon/35 Gold’s and a middle aged man put one of the TVs on Fox News and a strong looking woman with short spiked hair and a a bicycle tattoo on her thigh changed it back to Dr Quinn (seriously) and the man changed it back to Fox, and she changed it back to Dr Quinn and kept the remote at her machine. He steps off his treadmill and starts walking over, and in a loud brogue, she shouts “get back to your work, you pudding!” That was 15+ years ago. I hope she lives in Texas because she is the hero we need.

  11. sydney is exactly correct. people like stros think it is not all that conspicuous when they say some unbelievably stupid shit and then when respectfully asked to answer a follow up question, they just ignore it over and over since they have no useful reply that does not entirely betray that they are idiots or awful people. stros said that trump hasn't put any of his political enemies in jail, unlike the left as one of his fundamental bases for his support of trump. to any rational person, that is an utterly idiotic statement that is informed by propaganda consumed from a constant barrage of bullshit. it is not worth anyone's time to engage in an exchange premised on such an obviously stupid thing to say. despite that, sydney has continually followed up in a patient way and while stros has made tens of posts since then, he thinks it is not conspicuous that he is purposefully evading it to anyone with the perception of a child what is going on. yet we should patronizingly entertain this indefensible bullshit as "legitimate discourse" and applaud stros for his unwillingness to actually engage instead of just scattershooting nonsense like "I honestly think Donald Trump loves America, and wants the best for all Americans," "He hasn’t put any of his political enemies in jail, unlike the left," "DEI is the death of America."

  18. I mean this genuinely, how do we function as a society when we have people like Vance openly stating that he wants to eliminate the WAY HIS WIFE BECAME A CITIZEN and there’s no pushback, no news stories, no controversy. Just business as usual and follow the cult leader at all costs.

  20. I had a right-winger in my class a few years ago. He wanted to give a Persuasive speech on why we should fight back because our free speech rights are under attack. First, the topic was phrased horribly. Second, me being that mofo, I decided to play along. I asked him “can you name the bill, and the politician who put forward that bill, that is currently on the house floor which, if passed, the result would be the limiting of or taking away of our free speech?” And of course he couldn’t answer. Later that evening, I emailed the class that we would changed the lecture for the next class period. When they walked it, the new lecture was on the power point: “How free speech and public speaking really work—really.” Radical right wing talking points can be fun to engage with—sometimes (Sorry this was in response to immortal before he got his iPad taken away)

  21. Zelenskyy recorded a daily address to Ukrainians wearing a “make russia small again” T-shirt It shows a map of the Principality of Moscow from 1462, when it included Moscow, Suzdal and Vologda. On the back of the t-shirt, the size of the principality is compared to the size of the current Russian Federation.

  23. It’s true. Men in Texas are not responding well to the 12oz roll or sage blend. There are indications that until the 16oz roll is returned to market they will go back to making their own sausage like they did thirty years ago, despite agreeing that it’s not as good.

  24. Derka wasn't right about shit. Quinn is just a pussy, he could have carved Georgia up but instead opted to be a fucking pussy and have a bunch of mental issues instead of physical issues or restricted ability based on coverage or real collapse of pocket. His problem was 100% @ mental one and it made for an embarrassing loss in front of the largest crowd at DKR ever and in front of everyone watching the prime time top 5 matchup on TV. He shit down his leg on the biggest stage. The problem isn't that he can't throw or can't X Y Z the problem is he couldn't do shit because he was playing like a scared little bitch.

  26. You YOU specifically said "You are a man voting for Kamala Harris." I didn't bring up gender, you did. I literally asked a question. Did you not mean to specify gender? Why does she have no business running this country? She's been an AD of the largest state, a Senator, and now a VP. She's one of the more qualified candidates in ages. What does sucking dick have to do with anything about being a competent executive? I hope all women in positions of power suck dick, because that means they're probably not mentally inflexible fucking prudes. She has lots of policies, they are all outlined on her website. And they're pretty specific. Ther was a border deal that R's scuttled, that was written by the GOP. How is she going to moderate free speech? Please cite sources.

  32. People laugh now at Trump's "STOP THE COUNT!" tweet. That was a sitting president saying out loud he wanted to throw out votes that hadn't been counted yet. He also tried to declare victory while votes were still being counted. Yet another absolutely fucking bonkers thing he's done that just gets shrugged off now.

  34. What is stopping you from that? Have you checked to see if your desired school district is open enrollment? Are private schools not accepting your applications? Do you want a voucher system? I can get on board with a system that moves money between public schools. It is a strong hell no if you are trying to take public funds and give them to a private school. Every proposed version from pro voucher Texas politicians this past session was written in a way to be a straight money grab by private schools and fuck over public ed. Oversee federal laws related to protected students such as special education, 504, students who are homeless etc. To fund school/establish guidelines for schools who receive federal funding for programs such as Title I. Not well. Let’s start with funding school funding. The recapture system is broken and fucks over more and more school districts every year. Austin ISD sent back 850 million last year yet they have to operate at a deficit. Total money sent back last year was almost 5 billion. Why does our state not address the issue? Because this recaptured money does not have to go back to schools. It goes back in the states the general fund and can be used for anything. I hope now families/voters in districts it is hitting who in the years past may have been rural (before sprawl) and even may have received some recaptured money will take notice and voice their complaints or vote for politicians who will tackle the issue. Curriculum has plenty of issues and subcategories (banned books) but I don’t have the mental bandwidth tonight to dive deeper I do believe there needs to be some sort of assessment for student academic levels but I prefer it been done at the local and not necessarily based on STAAR. If I am breaking the rules of this thread then neg me. When I read some of the talking points on education my soapbox gets out. I think the system needs to have accountability and improve in certain areas but many of the solutions come from misinformation or wrong assumptions
