Puhleeze. Below we have YOU, a member of the bar, liking a comment from another fellow member of the bar, applauding a call for ethnic cleansing -- a fucking war crime. It's kind of rich that you're more concerned with a single dead executive than you are with 2 million people, ~45,000 of whom are now dead a little over a year later. https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/32512-israel-hamas-war-thread/?do=findComment&comment=560679223 points

I have a buddy who is friends with a connected LSU guy. That dude asked my buddy to get my opinion on House basically coming in and resetting things to the good ol'days. "House is going to end portal use and collectives, isn't it? This stuff isn't sustainable. " Just begging. Who would have ever thought that LSU, Bama, Georgia, Clemson and a handful of smaller schools would be aligning so tightly with the NCAA when it comes to compliance across the landscape. The funny part is that it hasn't really dawned on these programs and their fanbases how pathetic they look in all of this. It also hasn't really hit them yet that many other programs are fully happy to currently tell their side to go get goatfucked for all we care. Tennessee isn't whining. Texas isn't whining. Nor Auburn or Oregon or Ole Miss or Ohio State or Michigan. Florida and Miami seem fine with it. It's glorious. Go be poor somewhere else.21 points

Lol at the quinn apologists claiming that surly is overreacting. or "I just don't agree with Jerry's take" here. Try going on twitter and searching Quinn Ewers to get the sports world's take outside the UT bubble. It's far more harsh. And it's 100% accurate. I guaranfuckingtee if he played for OU or ATM everyone on this thread would be united in shitting on him. He's an average QB on a team surrounded by elite talent. But most average QBs just have all-around average skills. He's unique in his variance - incredible throws at times, followed by complete "how the fuck is this dude a D1 QB?" pants shitting. It averages out to, at best, average. Arguing individual plays or games or stats is silly and beside the point. Our offense has been held back since he came back from injury. Period. There's better talent on the bench that deserves a shot and is not getting it.19 points

I don't feel like starting my own thread. I watched every play Texas ran inside the Georgia 30 to see what is going with the offense because the offense has been pretty dreadful turning quality drives into points the second half of the season. You can even ignore my analysis if you want (understandable) because I put video of all the plays in there for you to be able to draw your own conclusions. https://open.substack.com/pub/danweiner/p/watching-every-texas-red-zoneish?r=fm9fw&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true18 points

Sure, why the fuck not. We've decided as a society that the rule of law and basic civility are bad so do whatever the fuck you want. I'm far more outraged by police killings and that half the country cheered on the acquital of a teenage murderer because they didn't like the people he killed so who fucking cares when its a health insurance CEO whose industry directly causes thousands of preventable deaths every day and a lot more suffering. History is littered with revolutions against the ruling classes and extreme wealth inequality. Doomscrolling on social media might be delaying the inevitable but there is a reconing coming one way or another and this asshole dying doesn't bring me an ounce of sympathy. Maybe a decade ago but we've chosen our path. Full cloak room so I'll stop there.17 points

Checking in. Just celebrated my 2nd birthday about a month ago. So happens to be an easy date to remember since it’s actually on my half birthday which is quite fitting. It also is the day after I relapsed after 9 months and ended up in a jail cell after making a series of poor choices. That was a pretty fucking deep low looking back…but I digress- Life has never been better since I finally laid my arms down, fully surrendered to the poison, and humbly asked my Higher Power to take control of my life and sobriety every day. Got married earlier this year to an amazing woman who has seen me at my worst (and best thank God) and loyally stood by my side through the depths of hell and back with me over the past 5 years. We just recently found out she is pregnant and she’s due next August. We are absolutely over the moon. Life has been so much sweeter and enjoyable without the daily albatross and overwhelming burden of alcohol. The freedom and joy I experience every day is truly a miracle that only gets even better with time. Words I never thought I would say a couple of years ago. I’m so thankful to be sober and healthy, but also know that I must always simply continue this journey one day at a time while trying to be less of an asshole overall. I am very very fortunate that my Higher Power allowed me to keep my life, job, family, and unconditional support of loved ones through everything. Another miracle that I thank God for every day. Props to all my fellows out there in the trenches. I hope you all know this thread is an inspiration and I am thankful to get to read along and absorb as much as I can.15 points

I mean, what else is there? It's not just someone whose policy positions are disagreeable to some. It's someone with zero policy positions, multiple crimes and convictions, and who won on rhetoric of hatred towards large swaths of people who are about to face a world of hurt. Oh, and its the side that calls anything that might change the health insurance system socialist traitors. So yeah, blow it the fuck up, the side that at least tried to hold to the rule of law lost, by a lot. It's already been blown up. I literally don't care anymore if the response is violence, the alternative has failed. Edit: Since it's become full CR, and healthcare is the topic, the "person we didn't want to win who won" is appointing an anti-vaxxer to lead the country's policy on health and human services. Let that sink in for a moment. This isn't ordinary policy disagreements, things have already blown the fuck up, both sides-ing the tactics doesn't bother me anymore.14 points

FSU Update: -Bidding in big to win Thomas Castellanos (BC) after he was moved to 2nd team in Boston and then quit, midseason. After DJU, this seems smart. -14 transfers out, so far. They're expecting others. One guy they're losing is the highly rated QB that they were keeping on the bench and grooming. Smart work. -3 guys have declared for the NFL. They signed 20 guys in a recruiting class ranked 20th. Their roster is decimated and they're hoping to arbitrage the portal again, even after this past season's utter failure on that front. These guys might be really bad for a while.14 points

Bobby said yesterday Quinn to the NFL is a done deal and the decision has already been made. He was pretty quick to shut down the question and move on.13 points

Spoilered below is Bobby's thread of the day, focused on transfers out of Texas. tl/dr version is to expect some pain. Not a surprise.13 points

We don’t live in one. We have a convicted felon as president elect. Americans have decided they don’t care about the law so 🤷🏽♂️12 points

Cool. I'm sure if we just ask the people in Washington nicely they'll help us change the system. The people have spoken, the trans girl playing volleyball out west is a far more important outrage.12 points

We are close to becoming, or already have become, a full blown oligarchy. The top 4 richest men are now worth a TRILLION dollars. I think I saw that 12 years ago the top 4 were worth 74 billion. 74 billion to a trillion in a little over a decade. That’s not sustainable.11 points

NSIAP but it sounded like Bobby said we're going for the Utah punter in the portal? "Circle this name," was the verbiage used. https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4426752/jack-bouwmeester https://utahutes.com/sports/football/roster/jack-bouwmeester/15353 Said he's averaging about 47 yard yards per punt. I’m not even saying we need anything crazy. Putting this offense in positions like: 1st & 10 - 3 yard run 2nd & 7 - 3 yard run 3rd & 4 - (you have the entire playbook at your disposal) this is a down & distance where Helm and Golden should feast on crossing routes and drags instead we’ll get 1st & 10 - oopty oop razzle dazzle double screen Jaydon Blue - 2 yards 2nd & 12 - Quinn arm punt deep ball to no one 3rd & 12 - wisner check down 4 yards 4th & 8 - Kern 32 yard punt Of course this is all after fielding the kick 4 yards deep in the end zone and starting on our own 15, punting from our 17 and setting them up at midfield after only taking 58 seconds off the clock and fucking our defense over yet again.11 points

"It wasn't due to being overcharged. It was that he bought the vehicle then discovered mechanical issues with the car and attempted to "return" the car to the dealer. The dealer refused, citing that they sold him the car "as is", and he threatened to drive the car through the showroom in retaliation. He followed through." And fuck car dealerships. Fuck every one of those scumbags from sales, to finance, to service.10 points

Collins was a nothing player at UF, but, hey the DL coach coached him, so there's that. Hudson going to ATM will be perfect. I doubt either side will be able to meet the other's expectations on the field. Off the field, Liucci and the others will do what they always do and oversell the guy, make up every excuse in the book for why he couldn't crack the depth chart at Tech, and then let national talking heads and their fanbase blabber on in the hype. We talked about both behavioral and physical issues with Hudson when he was a recruit. None of that has changed. He's a shittalking prima donna with zero elite skills or physical traits. He was overrated then, and he's overrated now.10 points

100%. The eye test may have told a different story at times, but someone is going to see 3000 yards, 26/12 ratio, leading Duke to a 9-3 record, and great physical tools in a RS-Sophomore and feel like that's something they can absolutely work with. People underestimate how many truly shitty QBs there are out there. Maalik has shown that he's already in, what, the top 25% of FBS QBs? Maybe higher? He either was straight up tampered with by someone, or at minimum was hearing heavily from programs and NIL agents. He's going to do well. And honestly, good for him. Sucks for Duke but that's just the way of the world now. I'm definitely still rooting for the guy.10 points
