Listening to the Dodgers/Mets game, they played “God Bless America.” I love this country. I just don’t love the version being presented to us, and the world, now. But I desperately want this to be a brief dark period in our history. Not a tipping point from which there is no return. I have to believe sanity has a place in our future. I recently watched the Bin Laden documentary on Netflix and while W had his flaws, he seems like fucking Lincoln when compared to Trump. The infection the orange goon has unleashed on our country is more poisonous than any that has ever occurred in our nation’s history. He has sown division, hate, racism, chaos, anger and madness. And that has been his strategy. But is it ever going to return to some semblance of reason? For my sanity, I pray it will. I love this country too much to just give up.12 points

My grandad is buried in that cemetery. He served in WWII and took part in the Battle of the Bulge and its aftermath. After the war ended he spent nearly a year on cleanup in Germany and Eastern France. Since he had an armorer’s rating one of his jobs was to destroy M1919’s by shooting them into river banks for hours until the barrels melted. They didn’t have much ear protection and he was hard of hearing for the rest of his life. He died in 2021 at 100, and we finally had the funeral about a year later. It was a small group- me and my kids, my dad and his wife, my aunt and her family, and a couple of friends. They led us to a little pavilion, we all said a few words, they played taps, and folded up the flag. Then the Officer In Charge presented the folded flag to my aunt and said, “On behalf of the president of the United States and a grateful nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one’s honorable and faithful service.” The last time my grandfather voted in a Federal election was when he voted for Joe Biden in 2020. It was the first time he had voted for a Democrat since Jimmy Carter in ‘76. He said that 2020 was the most important vote of his life, and maybe the most important thing he ever did for his country.11 points

There were a pair of brothers, one who played baseball at aggy, and his younger brother who played for Texas. The pair of them beat the brakes off of four football players, plus looch, outside of the Dixie chicken back in the early 2000’s when we were still in school.11 points

First, that’s incorrect and embarrassing English for the leader of anything, including an agricultural and mechanical college. Second, it’s a double negative so he is actually saying they are someone’s little brother. Fing dumb Aggie.11 points

I thought it was great that ctj and his wife renewed their vows a couple of years back and that they chose to share this pic with the board. If you ever wondered how someone would cover a man bun for a more formal occasion, ctj did it in a way that would never have crossed my mind. For my wedding, anyway.9 points

He is right, but that’s not really the argument here anyway. They are public lands, just like National Parks, and should be protected from being privatized and sold off. We own them. Corporate America does not. Public lands are a uniquely American resource that belong to all of us and I will defend them by whatever means necessary.9 points

This. He essentially admits it in his denial, merely claiming that he brought it to an end. Well, one must remember that different languages treat double negatives differently. Take Spanish for example. In Sharp's defense, we may not be familiar with the intricacies of EATME (East Anglo-Texan Moronic English, also known more succinctly as Anglo-Texan Moron or ATM).8 points

Turkic peoples like the Kazakhs, Uyghurs, etc. and Mongols are ethnolinguistically different, but they share a ton of cultural heritage and history. Both have a mix of east and west Eurasian features. The Oghuz Turks first migrated westward into Central Asia, bringing their entire herds with them. A Persianized branch known as the Seljuk Turks then continued further west into Persia, defeated the Abbasid Caliphate and conquered Baghdad, then defeated the Byzantines at Manzikert to move into Anatolia. Genghis Khan then began his campaigns of conquest, and his grandson Hulagu Khan later sacked Baghdad. The Mongol empire ruled over primarily Turkic subjects, and subsequent rulers and dynasties identified themselves as Turco-Mongols (including the Timurid Empire, the Kazakh Khanate, and the Mughal Empire). Meanwhile, the non-Mongol Turks who were in Anatolia rose as the Ottomans, cut off from their Central Asian brethren by the Safavid Empire which re-took Persia.8 points

Good for you. For coming back and finishing. But sorry dude, you blew it. My favorite story about UT having big classes: I took Government as a freshman ('74-75), like you're supposed to, with about 250-350 other undergrads in Burdine Auditorium. That was long enough ago that the Prof (not a TA) did a lecture on each US President. Jefferson & Lincoln were inspiring. He did FDR from a wheelchair. I told my friend about this guy and told him you have to come hear his last lecture on Nixon. I wasn't the only one. The 500+ seat auditorium was packed, standing room only. "Nixon was the most corrupt ... The end." got the Prof a standing ovation. In a freshman Government class. It would have been criminal and a huge waste of resources to have him speaking to a group of 20-25 students. His lecture inspired me to go see all of Nixon's cronies that went on the speakers tour at LBJ Library. The last one being Senator "Sam" Ervin, Dem. NC, (chair, Senate Select Committee to Investigate Campaign Practices, also known as the Senate Watergate Committee). That was also a packed house so I knew to get there early. That's my bookends on taking Government at The University of Texas v. ACC or High School credit. What I heard cemented my beliefs on HS recruiting, and my disdain for all things OU, A&M & from what I knew, Alabama. Little known fact. Burdine Hall resembles a ForTran computer punch card. My scholarship paid for the Freshman Orientation week; yes, I slept in Kinsolving for a week. Hasn't everyone? UT did a multi-media slide/video show at Burdine Auditorium to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, a cloud of sweet smoke waifing though the air, and afterward we went to Nothing Strikes Back for ice cream in their Black Light/day glow dark room ("When the munchies strike... Nothing Strike Back"). Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain And you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun Every time I hear Pink Floyd takes me back to 1974. Good Times & fond memories.8 points

Just for a little added flavor, that team is currently #146 RPI, and they swept A&M in College Station. That should make the Aggies ineligible this year AND next year.7 points

Reese is not helpful when the ump has a small zone. She moves entirely too much when framing pitches. Small subtle movement and mitt position makes a huge difference7 points

I don’t have time for the details now, but in about an hour my wife and I will be headed to the Barcelona airport for the 3rd time in 3 days to try and fly home. Day 1 they cancelled our flight after everyone had been on board for 2 hours. Day 2 they cancelled the flight an hour before departure. Can’t wait to see what fun we have in store for us today. Good news is I now know where to find good cheap beer at BCN. As a United and Southwest flyer the lack of customer service from AA has been shocking. Fuck these people.7 points

Your Saturday Smorgasbord 1) Horns 247 - Valdin Sone (from ... Sweden 😏) 2) Horns 247 - Kendall Guervil 3) LSU 247 - LAMAR BROWN (Lulz .. ) 4) Georgia 247 - Malakai Lee Honolulu (Hawaii) Kamehameha offensive tackle Malakai Lee has finalized his official visit schedule. The No. 1 offensive recruit in Hawaii, Lee had a final six of Alabama, BYU, Georgia, Michigan, Texas and USC. Now he’s down to four- with BYU and USC out and the final four being Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Texas. He already took an official visit to Georgia on April 10 and the official visit to Michigan has long been set for June 20. But the other two dates are locked in. Lee will next hit the road next weekend when he takes his official visit to Alabama on May 30. It will be a quick turnaround, with Lee set to return to the mainland to visit Texas on June 6. He'll return to the visit slate on June 20 when he visits Michigan. And a decision could come shortly after. “I was thinking a week after I get home from my last trip,” said Lee. A four-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Lee is the No. 14 offensive tackle nationally and the No. 2 recruit in Hawaii in 2026. He has already been selected to play in the 2026 Polynesian Bowl. 5) Horns 247 - Grayson McKeogh (May be a tough pull from PA, but Flood only offered May 19, and we've made his Top-3 ... ) 6) Vodney Cleveland7 points

My daughter was a 4 time all conference catcher at the D1 level. We worked on framing with tennis or wiffle balls with no glove. Good framing is done with small hand or wrist movement. There is no need to slide the glove 6-8” every time. Only frame the close pitches and set up with your mitt in the center of your body. If the pitcher can hit the target and the catcher is quiet with subtle movement you will get more strikes6 points
