  1. I was pleasantly surprised in Belton. Only got to be there about an hour, but I'd guess 700-1000 people were there in the fiefdom of John Carter the Feckless. Kudos to the olds who showed up, saw lots of older vets. Everyone was cordial, welcoming, and upbeat. Almost zero presence of counter protesters, and LEO must have been staying out of sight. Organizers did a great job. Best sign:

  4. Hung out with my BFF Rick again today Lotta great signs as per usual. This one tho... She was just in the crowd, but talked with us about her dad being a part of one of the first groups into a concentration camp. As she was sharing this, a man with a Ukrainian flag around his shoulders came up and started crying as he listened to her. His Jewish grandparents came to America after the camp they were in was liberated. It wasn't the same one (can't remember the camps names, dammit), but still an incredibly powerful moment.

  7. We just got back from the Austin rally (we were there for half of it, then rotated out - people were still showing up, older folks were rotating out…it was pretty damned hot). But we Constitutioned the fuck out of it. The right of the people to peaceably assemble. All that shit. We the people will not go quietly into that good night. Multiple people complimented and thanked my wife for representing - she wore her clerical collar, because real Christians stand against cruelty and fascism. Bonhoeffer sure as fuck did. We can too. The crowd was in great spirits. Cars driving by as we left were honking horns, fists raised in support. And yeah, a drag queen did two RATM numbers. Solid. I’m proud of all of y’all, and of a shitload of my countrymen. But this doesn’t end here. Not even close.

  14. Protest is Dallas is huge. They showed an overhead helicopter shot on WFAA and was a stream of people. Definitely larger than the BLM protests in 2020.

  15. Good for them. I entered UT in 1971 as a junior and protested Vietnam that year. I'm 73 and headed to the capitol too.

  17. Had a great time at the Capitol. So many people. Great energy and everyone united in the common loathing of that fucking guy. Carried our American flag around. Haven’t felt this patriotic in a long time. It was inspiring and energizing knowing that there are a lot of people out there in the movement. Still lots more to do but fuck fascism

  18. I was gonna be a passive wretch and stay home because it's raining buckets in Birmingham and is projected to do so past 6:15 when the event starts, but this is the part in the movie when [drum beat] I look across the storm and see @PenelopeWitherspoon and all the New Yorkers marching in a downpour, then [drum beat] I hear a groan and see @MissingInAction trying to crawl forward to retrieve a fallen flag but [rising synthesizer tone bc something dramatic is gonna happen] I suddenly realize we Cancer Bros fear NOTHING and I LEAP UP, [Blue Steel Expression] then I realize, hell it's more than two hours away. No point going out there and getting wet, yet.

  20. Dallas was bumping. Biggest turnout I’ve seen since the Rangers World Series parade. Nothing but peace and love. Tons of people handing out water and medics.

  22. Here's the thing: this can't be hand-waved away as anything other than political violence. It wasn't a lover's quarrel -- it was two different politicians, one man, one woman, and their spouses. Both were Democrats. It was politically motivated, period.

  23. I went to the No Kings Birmingham rallying point, which was away from the actual downtown, over in the Industrial Wastelands flats. I believe that it was the only open lot in that area not currently or formerly occupied by a brewery. Maybe it will become a brewery in the future. The crowd (maybe a thousand?) were mostly people you might meet in breweries. I believe they may have later marched past some breweries, but I was gone.* There was no foolish redneckery while I was there. For Maga, Birmingham is Mordor. *The spins. The woozles. Inability to stand up or maintain conversation. Blood sugar and pressure both tanked. Kindly nurses fed me Welch's Fruit Snacks and I had the strength to find my car, where I died, so they strapped El Cid's body in the seat and slapped it on the rear quarter panel and it drove me home.

  27. I live deeep in enemy territory now. Downtown Midland had a couple of hundred protesters this morning. Peaceful but a handful of redneck asshole fuckhead fascists showed up. Some heated words were exchanged. I stayed completely out of it because I don't trust myself not losing it and going completely berserker. No visible police presence except for a drone overhead.
