Burton confirmed this morning what we’ve discussed here about OU raising the ante on Kreul to a level Texas found uninteresting. He’s providing the view from inside the staff’s perspective, so I always like to see confirmation. He also said they’re keeping their powder dry for a bigger fish at Edge if they get the opening they’re hoping for during the season. My view is they should just wait for LSU to make a fool of itself as usual in Week 1 and then make the big offer to Henderson.30 points

Comically relevant to the Kreul discussion with OU. They've been recruiting WR Davion Groce for this entire cycle. They've been up against Baylor and, to a lesser extent, UF the whole time. Groce's camp recently indicated in the last month that they were likely picking OU over Baylor, despite BU putting a good offer together. The player announces tonight and OU has considered him in the bag for a while. Update today is that Florida has come in off of the top ropes with a big time offer. Groce's camp has allegedly given OU this afternoon to match or beat. Remember that part about OU coming in with something crazy for Kreul? Well, that was done when they thought they had Groce locked up at a different number. I'm guessing they're going to have to pass on one or the other. If they pony up for both, I assume that is going to lead to some serious retention issues with the portal if they're not prepared to pony up around the table for experience already on the roster at Edge and WR. Watching OU get put in Sophie's choice after Sophie's choice is only going to get more entertaining.17 points

i mean this truly as apolitically as possible. there's nothing normal about the national guard deployment in DC under these circumstances, nothing close to normal at all.16 points

Full Ride on XM 84 this morning had Childers and Roy Philpott because Neuheisel was doing work for CBS in prep for the season. Apparently CBS will have a preview show on this weekend, so mental note there for anyone who needs another fix from Brian Jones, Neuheisel and the other guys they'll have on there chopping it up. Anyway, the first two hours of the show involved a ton of Texas discussion. They had resident shithead Chip Brown on and he immediately proceeds to tell them that Texas has no business being ranked #1. He runs down Manning as inexperienced and then recounts personnel losses. Philpott: "Who would you have #1?" Brown: "Clemson" Philpott: "Clemson? Texas just beat them in a game that wasn't really close for most of the game. Why Clemson?" Brown: "They return everybody and they've all gotten better. Klubnik is a stud and is the best QB in the country. Dabo is a championship coach. I just don't think Texas is ready." How in the world is that shitty motherfucker still allowed credentials to this program? He's another one of these buffoons that are constantly negative about the program they cover. This is a guy who has written hit pieces designed to harm the program as a means, allegedly, of paying off gambling debt. He's never said an informed thing that any other writer or talking head couldn't have said better when talking to a national audience. It's despicable. The rest of their discussions that meandered in and out of Texas for 2025 were all positive. Hell, Joe Cook was on Off Campus yesterday and he did a fine job and sounded relatively informed. It's not that hard to just not be a fuck up.16 points

Yeah, the lives of my wife and daughters don't compare in importance to a football season. What was I thinking? Are you under the impression most Americans have "fuck you" money and can afford to just jaunt off to Europe or Mexico for years? Evacuating is a last resort to escape sure death as a political refugee. What a fucking prick.16 points

Just stop. Why do you give a shit if someone is miserable? Believe me, if my parents were healthier we would be gone from Texas and if the job opportunities were the same, we’d be in Canada. You don’t know what people’s fears and circumstances are15 points

Much of the weeping and gnashing of teeth over bail is because we haven't expanded courts at all in Texas for decades despite the population doubling. Because of the right to a speedy trial, if they can't indict a person and bring them to trial then they kind of have no other choice. But nobody wants to pay for judicial benches and courts - just abandoned sections of border wall and vouchers for Christian schools15 points

It doesn't even have to be this fringe. It could literally be a undocumented Texas high school graduate who just had to cancel their enrollment for this fall semester because the Feds pulled the "State's Rights!!!" to govern themselves and classify students who graduated from Texas high schools (and lived here for a specified amount of time) as Texas residents for tuition purposes. Now I have to deal with students asking me how they can attend UT in the fall if their tuition just rose from $5,500/semester to $21,000/semester. Oh, and that $6k/year Texas grant you qualified for and were awarded? Sorry, you no longer qualify. No, you can't apply for a loan either, because you no longer qualify for the state-funded CAL loan. It would be better to spend your time in hiding since ICE is knocking on people's doors to fill their quotas. Stephen Miller said you were born to be a 2nd class citizen and shouldn't be getting government money. Oh, and also that fucking incel is making sure the rest of Project 2025 is being carried out in the meantime. So, yeah, don't look up. Unfortunately there's nothing I can tell them. If I want to give them the slightest sliver of hope, I can suggest paying in-district at a CC for a couple years and hope to have the opportunity to get a university education later IF the regime changes. But that would require me to believe that Trump isn't going to declare himself eligible for 3rd term with the fucking SC he paid for. And my head isn't far enough up my ass to not see where this is going. (2032? You really thing he's capable of saying "ok, enough is enough, Im rich enough, that's enough power, I've had my fill"? Fuck outta here). But anyway, that's my rant. I'm still at the stage where I can use sports as a way to stuff the reality of how fucked up these people are ALLLLLLLLLL the way to the back corner of my brain. I'll wash off the echoes of that fucking cunt Miller spout off insane racist propaganda on TV to further their nazi agenda by reading up on the latest practice report this evening. It doesn't mean I don't give a shit, it's just one of the few ways I can cope. My gf and the occasional drinking/smoking session will have to make do for the other times that I can't fit my head up my ass enough to forget.13 points

I care about having to read through him showing up time and again whining about how he's been slighted. Not that he has receipts for correctly calling that Quinn Ewers is a deeply flawed quarterback with some likely insurmountable weaknesses. And he called it earlier than anyone. Good for him. But apparently bad for me having to read through how hard it is to post on surly over and over. Other posters nailed it. Sark wasn't removing an entrenched starting QB, who whether we respected him or not, had the respect of the locker room. It would have been a media nightmare and circus that makes current Arch Mania look like nothing. It would have had ramifications in recruiting. Everyone finding the time to bitch and moan about it retrospectively blows my fucking mind. It's obvious why it happened, and if Sark had to do it again I doubt he'd do it differently. And lets not forget he did feather in Arch more and more as the season went along. You're not living in reality thinking he should have benched Ewers for Arch.13 points

I too think that we're going to be a lot more explosive with Manning than with Ewers checking everything down, but if you're going to make a comparison like this you have to at least acknowledge the difference in competition between UTSA, ULM and MSU (the three worst teams on the schedule) vs. the rest of the teams Ewers faced.11 points

I will think about it more as that weekend approaches, so maybe I change my opinion by game time, but right now, I'm assuming Clemson is going to beat LSU like a borrowed mule. I have no faith in Kelly, or LSU for that matter, in an opener like this. They've done nothing to earn the benefit of the doubt. LSU is rebuilding their entire OL against what will be a top 5 national front in Clemson. Nussmeier has gathered more hype for someone who's done little to merit it than anyone since Spencer Rattler. "Did you see that 10 yard dig!?! What a throw!! Legend!!" They've frankensteined their defense with hopeful starting additions at DT, Edge, Safety and CB. I know Harold Perkins is hell on wheels against Arkansas, but I have a hard time assuming he's going to be a force in this game. Weeks is awesome, but he's one guy. McKinley might be on the verge of becoming a stud, we'll see. They've got pieces, but it's all been sewn together rather quickly if it's to be an asset against an explosive offense in Game One. Kreul reminds me of highly touted recruits coming out of some of the well-moneyed football factories in Texas. They look great on film, but how much more room do they have to develop? If he's maxed out as a freshman, he can still be an asset. Unless he has more room to grow, however, it seems like his upside is 5 sacks a season in overwhelming passing situations. I'd take that, but I don't have to have it. Nagy deciding that OU absolutely had to have him just illustrates the gap in the two programs right now. Also, something I hadn't really thought through until now is that Nagy is going to cram this guy down Venables' throat. We think he's a DPR on the Texas roster. Nagy is telling everyone he's a 5 star. Anyone think that that loudmouth is going to be fine watching his prized evaluation sit on the sidelines until 3rd down all season? Seems unlikely. "He'll be fine against the run. Get him out there. We're not paying him a million dollars this year to only be out there for 20 snaps a game." As a freshman.11 points
