I've been a massive sports fan my entire life. Anyone who knows me knows I'm obsessed. This has to be talked about, so putting it in CR. I'm so sick of this shit. Let's set this up correctly. 1. Trump and MAGA infiltrated sports. Politics and sports should not intertwine. But they made it happen. 2. Athletes/coaches being ignorant to politics is not a valid excuse anymore. The world is on fire. This country is on fire. Mass shootings weekly. ICE deportations. The economy sucks. We are in a psychological Civil War. Tensions haven't been higher in American society in my almost 50 years on this planet. 3. Trump's "fake news" and turning the media into the enemy has amplified the assholeness that emanates from the sports world. - Trump shows up at the Ryder Cup. Keegan Bradley does the Trump dance. Scheffler talks about how nice he is to everybody in the golf community. DeChambeau is Trump's BFF. Fuck this shit. Yeah, I play golf. I know the community as always been Republican/conservative. But fuck you. After Trump showed up, I spent all weekend cheering for Team Europe. Not because I dislike the American players, but because of what this country's leadership stands for now. The American fans are a fucking embarassment. I'm fucking ashamed. - Quinn Ewers wearing Trump stuff. Fuck you, man. You should know better. - Detroit Tiger players doing a Trump dance on the field when he was in attendance. Fuck you. He'd deport half your ballclub if he could. I laughed at their long losing streak after. - Coaches aggressively snapping at the media/reporters. Fuck you. Yeah, the media can be tedious and annoying. But act like a fucking professional. It's part of the gig. - World Cup in America? Cool, fuck you. I hope it's a failure. Same with the Olympics. EDIT: And how can I forget Portnoy and the Barstool Bros. Fuck you. DraftKings ads everywhere? Fuck you. Paul Finebaum might run for US Senate? Get the fuck out of here. Fuck you.42 points

Apparently Neto denies the Armenian genocide and has taunted Kyle Flood by printing out box scores of Rutgers' 2015 football season and taping them all over the coaches' office. He's persona non grata accordingly.17 points

Man, I wrestle with this. It sucks but I remind myself that this is what they want, to shrink America and all of public life down into MAGA or not and to make the “not” section small and sad. MAGA wants a world where only MAGA stands for the anthem or enjoys a ballgame. Authoritarians do this everywhere. Shortly after New Year’s Day 2021 I went for a sunrise paddle on the Laguna Madre. Paddling back to shore, a group of boaters roared passed me in a no-wake zone, Trump 2020 flag flapping (remember the boat parades) and I heard some hoots as I stabilized and balanced from the wake. An asshole attempt to ruin a stranger’s day. But— I’m the one who got to spend the morning with the stingrays and dolphins and sea salt, all while not thinking about Donald Trump at all. And they couldn’t do even that. I won the day. Bottom line: Why should I change what I like? They’re the ones who suck.16 points

if that motherfucker is "ahead of schedule" in development, then we might as well actually fire flood tomorrow, and I'm not a "fire flood" guy. 3 years to perpetually trip over your feet and wind up on your ass isn't "ahead of schedule," it's behind schedule. If this trend line continues he'll be playing year 4 in a wheelchair, Taylor Doyle style. By year 5 he'll have had his feet amputated because of diabetes. I don't think I've ever heard the phrase "use his athletic limitations to be effective" in regards to sports in my life. I don't think this is the same thing as a dude with a tiny dick getting really good at eating pussy. What's he going to do, master the art of tripping and landing on top an opposing DT? I think he's tried that, and it doesn't work. It doesn't work for anyone not named Finch starring in a Hollywood movie with late 80's Goldie Hawn, really.15 points

[This isn't directed to anyone in particular, but it needs to be pointed out every single time this happens] Mass shootings are not primarily a mental health issue. Every other country has mental health issues. Every other country has youth playing violent video games and listening to gangster rap and heavy metal. Mass shootings are an epidemic here, and only here, because this is literally the only nation on Earth where almost anyone can buy an assault rifle in a sporting goods store. And please don't try to post a couple of outlier shootings in other countries as some sort of pathetic attempt at a counterargument. The easiest access to guns, by far = the most gun deaths, by far. It is exactly that simple. If you like your guns so much that you just don't care, then have the balls to admit it.14 points

I actually learned from conversation with a wavering MAGAt that lots of these pointless drive-by posts are done to reassure themselves in the wake of bad news in their lives. They're basically virtue signaling to themselves because they don't want to face the bad news that on a deeper level they know their orange god is fucking them. They're too afraid to publicly acknowledge they screwed themselves so they play dress up and make believe that everything is okay in their world view. Likeliest scenario is that this guy just had his hours cut at the Piggly Wiggly.12 points

Speaking of war crimes The Sunday Times has published an investigation that reveals the identities of the 13 commanding officers in charge of Russian troops accused of the Bucha massacres. Their identities have been compiled by independent lawyers and investigators using open-source intelligence, and all 13 have been confirmed by the Ukrainian security services. Colonel General Aleksandr Chayko, commander of the Eastern Military District, led the Russian army at the outset of the invasion and was the most senior officer on the ground in Ukraine. Colonel General Aleksandr Sanchik. Troops under his command allegedly tortured and raped civilians in Bucha. Colonel Azatbek Omurbekov, from the 64th Separate Motorised Rifle Brigade, personally had a hand in "gross violations of human rights" including "direct responsibility in killings, rape and torture," according to the US state department. He was one of the bloodiest commanders stationed in Bucha during the occupation. Colonel General Valeri Solodchuk led Russian soldiers who are accused of killings in Bucha. He was promoted by Putin this year. Colonel Yuri Medvedev. Soldiers reporting to him said to have committed more than 40 acts of rape. He was killed by mutinous Russian troops in 2022. Colonel Andrei Kondrov. His troops were accused of robbing civilian houses in Bucha and killing unarmed civilians. Major General Sergei Chubarykin, head of the elite 76th Guards Air Assault Division. Soldiers under his direct command allegedly carried out the majority of the war crimes in Bucha, including executions, torture and widespread looting. Colonel Artem Gorodilov. Under US sanctions for "gross violations of human rights" including extrajudicial killings. Lieutenant Colonel Denis Suvorov personally abducted a Ukrainian officer, tied him to a tree and tortured him before dumping his body in an open pit. Colonel Aleksei Tolmachet. His regiment has been accused of unlawful detention, mock executions, ill treatment and looting. Major General Vladimir Seliverstov was stationed at the command post on Yablunska Street in Bucha, described as the nerve centre for the violence. Major General Vadim Pankov allegedly ordered soldiers to kill 30 local residents and forced civilians to clear up the bodies of dead Russian soldiers. Colonel Sergei Karasev has been accused of assaulting a woman, knocking out her teeth with his gun, and of shooting a civilian in the head. In Bucha, hundreds of residents were killed and subjected to brutal torture. More than 100 were buried in a mass grave outside the Orthodox Christian church. Some civilians were shot while trying to escape. A children’s summer camp basement was turned into a torture site, where women and children were systematically raped. Russian soldiers cut throats, mutilated bodies, and executed parents in front of their children. More than 500 civilian bodies have been recovered. Dozens more are still missing. The United Nations has described the atrocities as ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. something visceral happened when I was watching the Ryder cup in the background and trump came out. Before that I was begrudgingly rooting for our guys because USA. But 1) they are pretty unlikable already, but 2) their adulation of trump sickened me. Add that to all those comics going to Riyadh, wwe moving wrestlemania to Saudi Arabia, and just all the shit going on in the world and the state of Texas and at the university. Everything is going the wrong direction and I'm the one taking crazy pills. It's tough to fully compartmentalize any longer. I'm starting to just watch football games I don't care about and admire the athleticism. But even then you got to wade through all the fucking jingoism that's become dog whistles for trump supporters. It fucking sucks.11 points

Right there with you man. I've got 52 years rooting for the Americans in everything hard-wired into my brain -- but I think it finally came to a head during the Ryder Cup on Friday and Saturday. Trump showing up and most of the US team openly slurping him off coupled with their disastrous play led into Saturday's bloodbath and ridiculous US crowd treatment of the Euros might've ended that. I was low-key rooting for the Euros on Sunday but equal parts enthralled by the US making an amazing run back from the brink. My wife openly screamed in joy in the house when Lowry's putt at 18 found the bottom of the cup. At least I'll go out doing something I like with people who are cool. Thankfully most of "my" musical artists are woke liberals. Most of Hollywood that is worth a shit is too. Another positive is that my all-time favorite pro franchise (SA Spurs) was basically built by Pop, one of the most "woke" dudes in sports.11 points

I'm gonna have one tonight for George. Y'all join me, won't you? https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/lt-col-george-hardy-tuskegee-airmen-world-war-ii-pilots-dies-100-rcna234028 Lt. Col. George Hardy, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen and the last of the group’s World War II combat pilots, died Tuesday night, according to Tuskegee Airmen Inc. He was 100 years old. “His legacy is one of courage, resilience, tremendous skill and dogged perseverance against racism, prejudice and other evils,” said Leon Butler, national president of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. “We are forever grateful for his sacrifice and will hold dear to his memory.” At 19, Hardy became the youngest Tuskegee fighter pilot when he completed the Army Air Corps pilot training program in 1942, earning his wings and a commission as a second lieutenant. He was among the first Black military pilots in the nation. Hardy flew 21 missions over Germany during World War II and also served in the Korean War and Vietnam The U.S. military was segregated during World War II and created what was then called the Tuskegee Experiment to test whether Black Americans could command and maintain complex aircraft in battle. Nearly 1,000 Black pilots completed training and earned their commissions. More than 300 served overseas during the war. Thousands of support personnel, including women, who were also part of the so-called experiment, also earned the right to call themselves Tuskegee Airmen, serving with distinction and ultimately helping to integrate the military. There are 13 “Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen” still alive, according to the Tuskegee Airmen Inc., an organization started in 1975 to preserve legacy of the airmen. Aaron Gilchrist10 points

Great course. European fans were great and had shit eating grins essentially the entirety of play (save the bit of Sunday drama). US fans were on the whole ok but I witnessed plenty of shitbag and attention seeking behavior during play. The MC at the First Tee was terrible and I’m glad she fucked up so bad she had to quit. winding down Sunday night there were a few arguments between fans, but mostly the Euros did their awesome chants and had a blast while US fans wallowed in their own crapulence.10 points

I will also say, he was a great guy. I met him at Oshkosh about 10 years ago. I took Chad Jr. and his cousin. They were about six or seven. They had all sorts of questions and he patiently answered them and then told stories that had them on the edge of their seats. Just a great gentlemanly great grandpa type who came to share his stories with whoever showed up (and plenty showed up). We stand on this giant's shoulders. Fair skies and following tailwinds.10 points

European leaders are starting to tie Ukrainian victory to the security/stability of Europe. I mean, they've been doing this for years, but it seems lately they are a lot more united, probably helped by Ukrainian success against Russian power and O&G infrastructure. President of the European Council António Costa: This aggression threatens not only Ukraine, it threatens every nation in this assembly [the UN General Assembly]. If we accept Russia's invasion of Ukraine, no country will ever be safe. There is only one root cause to this war: Russia's refusal to accept Ukraine's right to choose its own destiny. For over three years, this war has claimed innocent lives, destroyed cities, and fooled global insecurity. Our collective security is tied to Ukraine's resilience.10 points

Maybe it was a 7 iron. All of his irons are the same length which is interesting, so it's hard to tell. The radical left is destroying this country. Radical Rory, they call him. Bad guy. I’m a Red Sox fan. If it can’t be the Sox then I’m pulling hard for the Blue Jays to win it all. I finally quit on Longhorn football when they lined up tight formation on the goal line on fourth and goal and ran yet another QB sneak for no gain against Ohio State. I said fuck this bullshit, turned it off, and haven’t paid attention to it since. If Texas wins, great. If not, I don’t really care anymore. I had no idea we had a bye this past weekend. My life is better for it. I won’t root for an American to win anything for the foreseeable future. If you fly an American flag, I just think you are a fascist asshole. The anthem pretty much makes me sick to my stomach now. Fuck ‘em all.9 points
