  1. and something about this that’s been particularly crazy, and rather eye opening, is just how many of these people weren’t radicalized or changed, they were simply given permission to openly be xenophobic, racist, neanderthals with impunity. in school we were taught that we overcame the racism of the 50’s and 60’s; that was a lie. what we did was make it so that the bigots and racists had to keep those thoughts and feelings within confines of their own private little bubbles for fear of serious public and professional retribution. that’s gone now, and now every day is a pride parade for racists, nazis, and white nationalists. and it is 100% a response to things like giving gay people basic human rights or having a black president, which made them feel uncomfortable. now their guy is back in the white house, and all of the masks have come off. it’s a depressing realization, how many of your own friends, family, and neighbors were huge pieces of shit all along.

  2. As Steamboat has mentioned Scott has been stabilized and a path forward is now being considered as to what procedures to take. We have a very large group email that consists of nearly every Wild Bunch person and others from UT Baseball and UT Football. It keeps us informed on each other pretty well. Steamboat and I are a part of this group email, and we know each other. I have known and traveled with Scott and before his passing Jose Pena to so many games in the past. It started with my first year as a student at UT and one of my professors was also a college umpire that had done games at Disch-Falk. He taught production for doing live sports. He also did that kind of work and was still doing that for CBS for the Sun Bowl in El Paso each year. We talked about baseball, and I told him I had followed Texas sports since I was a kid and couldn't wait for baseball season. He told me he wanted me to meet some people when the season started, and I said ok. When opening day at that the Disch came that season I met him at the front gate, and he led me around to section 2 and down the steps where Wilson and others were. I didn't know any of them. He just addressed the whole section and said that this guy belongs with you. He loves UT, he knows his baseball, and he is a real smartass. I have to go work a game and I leave him for better or worse in your hands. He turned and left and after a period of time I became a part of this motley crew for so many years. Through my student days and after graduation. I have told some of the stories in various UT Baseball threads and some included Scott, such as the picture I posted of several of us with a hog head before a game with Arkansas in Omaha. I have known him for I believe 48 years now and hope to share more stories from the past and the future. Please pray for Scott to return and start a new streak!

  4. Just got an informative update from a friend in Gainesville … Wilson is stable, but he is sedated and intubated right now. Not able to speak. Doctor’s are determining path forward, bypass surgery vs. multiple stents. Friends at the game are there to support around the hospital, and he has family currently flying in from Texas. I’ll pass more details as I have them.

  5. Long time superfan of University of Texas sports Scott Wilson had a heart attack in the Jacksonville Airport and has been hospitalized. Scott, is I think 74 years old. He has a very long streak of attending UT football games and was on his way for the game against Florida on Saturday in Gainsville. This is all I know at this point. There should be more information tomorrow as to how severe it is.

  7. y’all are in here arguing with people who believe that everything is fine right now, and that kamala harris being a black woman had nothing to do with her losing the presidential election to the antichrist. perhaps consider that these people are beyond redemption, and are complete lost causes. jesus christ could come down from heaven and tell them that they are completely wrong and they would just say, β€œwhen did heaven get so woke?”. maybe stop engaging these fatuous twerps.

  10. What I find fascinating is that this great "crisis" in higher ed is almost entirely made up. For real. To get an accurate picture, measure things RELATIVELY. Yep, academia has more hippie-dippie leftist types in it.....just like it did in the 60s, 70s, 80s, etc. FFS, it was a discussion and a real thing when I was on campus, back in the days of popped collars and sorority girls wearing wind shorts. Is it materially greater/worse, than it was before? Nope. Higher education typically leads to more nuanced, moderated thinking. Sorry, conservatives, that's just the way it be. Kind of like traveling makes it much less likely that you'll be a xenophobic bigot. Foreign students? Same deal. DEI and affirmative action? Well, first....the venom for "DEI" is utterly insane bullshit. DEI efforts do not grant admission preferences. Instead, they do things like increase recruiting at historically underrepresented high schools and communities, offer college readiness/prep to students in those schools, and provide resources for them when the get here because they have fewer such resources than students from college-educated families. Sorry, guys, but the reality is that the American legacy of racial discrimination has a LONG tail when it comes to education, success, and family wealth. We locked black people out of home ownership/owning homes in valuable neighborhoods for generations, so their ability to build equity wealth that passed on was sharply limited, and that takes generations to fix. And no, the students at Westlake and Alamo Heights don't need to be recruited, don't need to be offered college readiness assistance. Honestly, I think that UT's top 10% (or top 5% or whatever it is these days) does a decent job of getting a diverse student body, but the kid who is top 5% at Shit Hole High still needs to know what UT has to offer, and may need some help navigating UT once he gets here, because he's the first kid in his family to go to college. "Merit-based" but "ignore that some people are born on 3rd base while others have to sneak into the stadium" is a shitty approach to building an educated population. And I say this as a college-prep educated kid, son of a college grad with kids who were raised by people with 5 degrees between them. Cool, my kids had every advantage, and they will find success. But we're also helping a refugee, first-gen American with few resources navigate the college process now, and it's a very different game. If America in the next generation is going to prosper, that kid needs to get the full benefits of higher ed as well. We should all be in favor of that. Tuition? Now THAT is a worthwhile conversation. Relatively speaking (I really like the metric of "how many hours a week would you have to work to pay your tuition, room, and board?"), it's gone way up. Real action needs to be taken, some of it shouldn't be pleasant (e.g., free flow of student loan dollars had a "pump up the money supply, you inflate prices to match" effect). But this shit? It's thought control bullshit, and that's their open goal. Stop pretending it's anything but that.

  11. A close friend of Scott invited me to go with them to a game in Fort Worth against TCU several years ago. We rode in his Cadillac. The only necessities were a big bucket of fried chicken and lots of whiskey. During the game, some TCU pricks had broken the horns off the hood of the car. I was the only one sober enough to drive us back to Austin. He wanted the Doug Supernaw song "Red and Rio Grande" on a loop all the way home. When we got back, Scott gave me a t-shirt that said, "I drove the caddy home." That was my first and only trip with them, but it was a blast. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

And as someone that lives in Massachusetts You don't know what the fuck you are talking about at all. Sorry we don't live in an idiot filled state. My state is full of smart people. We like having Senators that are intelligent, well spoken, and educated. GUESS WHAT? In our state she is a person of the people. And she very much represents us. If you don't think she belongs in the Senate or isn't part of the team - you are shitting on my state in thinking that.

  15. I’ve had several recent conversations with friends who are falling into the same trap as Bozo. β€œMy rational, educated buddies want to support Democrats, but can’t bring themselves to do it because of [insert anti-woke propagandist canard of the week].” The problem isn’t Democrats. The problem is your friends are fucking stupid. Stop indulging them. Stop being polite. Lead. Help them understand that what they’re hearing and seeing is bullshit propaganda designed to have them doing exactly what they’re doing: staying on the sidelines while fascists take control.

  16. Another thing I failed to address. This week Bessant was caught admitting how we fucked over American farmers with tariffs, then Argentina won that business from America, and now we are propping up their government and subsidizing their farming of soybeans at our taxpayers expense. Last term, Trump took $28 billion from tax money to pay the farmers for the damage he caused. Redistribution of wealth. This term, he is reportedly looking at sending them $10 billion from the tax money collected to pay farmers for the damage he caused. Redistribution of wealth. For a party that cries about redistributing of wealth, you certainly have no qualms about stealing tax money from urban regions and using it to pay for the poor rural folks to not work, to not sell goods, to not support their own communities. If American farmers can't make a go of it, fuck em. Let someone else do their job. Or are you some sort of commie?

  18. Quick update on the weather. The trend over the last 24 hours has been toward less storm coverage during Saturday afternoon. Thunderstorms (with game delaying lighting) are still entirely possible, but at this point I would only place the chance of rain during the game at about one-in-three. In any case it does not appear to be wall-to-wall storms so the game is gonna get played. Winds may be more impactful. I think we're looking at sustained winds of 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts, perhaps occasionally reaching 25 or 30 mph. That is definitely noticeable, but the Swamp is built below ground level, and the stands are built up all around the field. I'm not an engineer, but this suggests to me the winds may be less of an issue on the field than outside the stadium. In summary, we walk out of the field like this:

  20. Yeah, a couple of those things, like the tuition freeze, is nothing but a populist appeal. The real goal of that, is that last bit of shit that even Texashammer agrees is nebulous, standardless ground for ideological punishment. I have been contemplating the question of why is education so "librul"? And the answer is, that is its very nature. Education, academia, and intelligentsia are, by their nature, progressive. It's the study and generation of new ideas. Even a discipline like history, dedicated to study of the past, basically thrives on uncovering new facts from the past or new interpretations of the past and how it affects the present and future. Sure, some of those ideas are garbage, just like some old ideas are garbage. But to have real education, you just have to let it go where it wants to go. And an attempt to do otherwise is damaging.

  35. Imagine saying that to a Jewish person in 1930s Germany or Poland. β€œHey, it’s not so bad, you can touch the ground.” Imagine saying that to an immigrant in the United States today, even if that person is here legally and has followed everything they have been asked to do. Imagine saying that to a trans person in the United States today. Imagine saying that to a Mormon person in Michigan who just had their church shot up and burned down by a right wing gun nut. Imagine saying that to a single mom in Texas who works her ass off to feed her kids and now she might lose her Medicaid coverage. Imagine saying that to a person who lost their livelihood simply for repeating a post of Charlie Kirk’s own words, in a way that perhaps his own words made him look a wee bit racist or misogynistic, and it got MAGA snowflakes triggered for portraying him negatively. All of those people should apparently look at the ground at touch it and be thankful they live in Trump’s America. Praise be.
