  1. I wouldn't have even posted about it. So not as far as you have taken it already.

  3. Hell, I am. Pat Robertson died this week. Trump indicted. Nate Paul got picked up by the feds on more charges, making Paxton and his backers squirm. Ukrainians are doing their thing. A relative is getting out of the hospital. Fantastic week.

  5. Lot of people are saying Blacklab is going to be named in the indictment. That's why he deleted the thread. I'm not saying that but a lot of people are.

  9. This is honestly my favorite part of any Trump news bomb. The first few hours when all of his supporters are obviously frantically texting each other, "what the fuck?" and "how do we defend this shit?" Sometime later tonight or tomorrow morning, the marching orders will be given and we will all learn the "defense" that will be used to slowly drive us insane over the next few months. But these first few hours are magical.

  16. I understand why we can't talk about news and current events in this forum and don't think that that will change. It may be easier to simply update the forum title/description to reflect the purpose of the forum. Something like "Nextdoor" or maybe "The Dixie Chicken".

  21. @SL Xpress, not quoting since the posts are long and I want to make sure the page keeps loading. I agree that the media can’t make solid pronouncements absent proof, but neutrality does not mean that you give equal weight to the two sides’ statements. That is journalistic malpractice in a world where the Kremlin exists. Here is what a decent, journalistically sound and factual paragraph would read: ”Ukrainian authorities state that Russian forces, who controlled the dam at the time of its failure and still control its ruins, destroyed the dam on purpose. Mr. Peskov, who has made consistently false statements before and during Russia’s invasion, claims that Ukrainian forces destroyed the dam. Thus far, no conclusive evidence is available and Russian occupying authorities refuse to assist in evacuations or an independent evacuation.”

  22. What's happening here is not "mishandling" of classified documents. That appears to be the case with Obama, Biden, and Pence. They all cooperated and did what was required. Don did not, he doubled down at every turn, and the tape recordings indicate he knew what he was doing when he did it, and the implications under the espionage act are extraordinarily serious. There are also levels of confidentiality and national security. If Obama or Biden acted the same, they should also be prosecuted. They didn't, only in the minds of the Texags types are they the same. So no, my position on that hasn't changed.

  23. There’s some real incel vibes in here. Anyway, a few thoughts from my experiences living places ranging from “rough” to “really nice places but Americans are still interesting” for about 15 years. I am married and haven’t been trolling favelas or night-clubs for desperate barflies, so most of this comes from observation and talking to friends who are professionals/aspiring professional people. And a few unsolicited, unsubtle approaches from said professional-type friends and acquaintances. When talking to friends’ wives or girlfriends and a few women— the interest in Americans is NOT your passport and the “take me to your cul-de-sac” paradise. You know what comes up often? The way American men treat women and their families (some of this is from movies and they are also only meeting educated, expat type Americans). That Americans can talk to women without either condescending or blatantly hitting on them, and when they do flirt it’s not crude or heavy handed. American husbands spend less time out drinking, they play with kids, help at home, and make decisions jointly. They shower and take care of themselves. American bosses treat women in the workplace respectfully, don’t tolerate harassment, encourage them to speak. A lot of this applies to the overseas English as well. The word “gentleman” comes up, but this is not doofus, fedora wearing m’lady shit. It’s “behave like women are your equal.” So that’s what these dipshits need to know. That the long effort of getting men to act like decent humans led by feminists is what actually makes you attractive. It’s not your game or your passport. Also, the phenomenon of dudes who are losers back home is well known, they’re mocked, and they are all just paying for play one way or another. There’s no hiding that.

  24. I don’t know, man. This isn’t “political news.” It’s not someone voting on a bill that I disagree with. It’s our most recent ex-President committing some light treason. Yes, it’s impossible to separate the politics and the drive-bys, but it’s a big fucking deal, regardless of individual leanings. If this was 8 years ago, it would be the biggest story on the planet. It feels weird to confine it to, “Oh, just more political mud slinging.”

  25. “Like all Americans, Mr. Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence. The government has the burden of proving its charges beyond a reasonable doubt and securing a unanimous verdict by a South Florida jury. “By all appearances, the Justice Department and special counsel have exercised due care, affording Mr. Trump the time and opportunity to avoid charges that would not generally have been afforded to others. “Mr. Trump brought these charges upon himself by not only taking classified documents, but by refusing to simply return them when given numerous opportunities to do so. “These allegations are serious and if proven, would be consistent with his other actions offensive to the national interest, such as withholding defensive weapons from Ukraine for political reasons and failing to defend the Capitol from violent attack and insurrection.”
