Surly Megathread of destruction and doom. [BEWARE VERY DOOMY]

There are several reports out there that the driver of the white SUV you are speaking about may have in fact been the aggressor in this situation.  The driver of the black truck in question is cooperating with police while the driver of the white SUV has not responded as of yet.

Stop engaging Capt taint. It’s impossible for him to process that “left leaning” people have also engaged in destructive behaviors.

I just want to make sure that yall considered """both sides""" when clutching your pearls and bemoaning the ongoing violence. Since ya know, attacking elected official, candidates, and the election process itself isn't near as bad as the worst sin of all - PROPERTY DAMAGE!!! [dun dun dunnnnn]

Indeed, but likewise yall are seemingly reluctant to consider its existence while happily shitposting andy ngo and jack probesic and a non-zero number of tweets and youtube vids that were later taken down because they were disinformation.

It's almost like a pattern of deflection whenever it comes up could be seen as tacit a defense of that behavior or something???

I have no idea who either of those people you posted are and I’m not sure I’ve ever posted a YouTube video in relation to the riots. But you’ve already proven to be a hypocrite in that the “running off the road” incident you mentioned in the Biden bus story has already shown that the alleged victim was indeed the aggressor in that particular scenario according to the local sheriff’s office. I posted a link last week. Weird how that fun little fact went by the mainstream wayside. The fact of the matter is I disagree with anyone committing destructive acts whether it be burning & looting businesses or plotting to kidnap a governor. You can put your partisanship aside for just one moment to acknowledge that both are not good for anyone. Give it a try sometime. You might like....oh, who am I kidding. You can’t and won’t.

I missed that link, can you share it again? I recall there being competing narratives but ultimately it seemed that with all the context that the large truck driver was the instigator and in fact has a (criminal) history of violent behavior.

okay thanks.  i saw that one but was wondering if there had been further developments since this is what it actually says:

“The at-fault vehicle may be the white SUV and the victim appears to be the black truck,” the statement continued. “Calls to the driver of the white SUV have gone unanswered and SMPD has not been contacted by the driver of the black truck. Since SMPD has not spoken to either driver at this time, additional investigation would be required to fully ascertain who was at fault.”

either way there is no dispute that the numerous vehicles were harassing the bus.

With due respect, SMPD's investigation was looking at internet videos and releasing a statement per that article. I'd still like to see their proof. Especially since the Hays country sheriff said that the campaign bus had it coming and shouldn't have driven on that public road without his blessing.

And in fact, a Hays county judge has rebuked the local PD's non-response and asked the FBI to "analyze why Sheriff Cutler failed to respond to the 911 call and then openly blamed the bus for the incident"

So I'd tap the brakes there on declaring what is and isn't.

I’ll gladly acknowledge that it may have been the other way and I completely agree that the Trump supporters’ actions were stupid at best and dangerous at worst. They are idiots, but some posters here have a real issue acknowledging that there are indeed idiots on both sides. It’s ok to do that. Crazy Uncle Santa Joe isn’t going to leave you off of his Christmas list for recognizing that people on both sides are indeed stupid.

So just to circle back... You went from attacking me as a partisan hypocrite who is unable to use logic, to admitting that you don't actually know in the span of an hour and citing of news sources. Keep up the good work, champ.

I posted a story from a news source you cannot attack and acknowledged there may be facts remaining to be discovered while pointing out that you are totally incapable of doing the same when it appears someone you think is on “your team” may have acted in appropriately. Goddamn you are absolutely the biggest fucking cunt on this board. You are completely incapable of seeing anything other than what you want to see.

And this after I posted that people should not engage you because you are literally a great big turd in this virtual punch bowl.

Aren't all three of those prior to the election? I read the post as  - an observation of having to board up certain cities in preparation for looting and rioting in case a certain party loses.  That party didn't lose, and there was no rioting and looting by the other side.

That's because they still believe Trump is going to win, per their Qanon message boards. Let's see what happens once the electors vote and it's official. Little too early to spike the football.

Yea that’s a good point. Lots could happen here in the next month or so. I need to before it starts though; I need a new tv for my guest bedroom.

I'm still not expecting much FWIW. Just saying it's too early to tell. Let me know when we're going looting, I need some new golf clubs and a blender.

there will be nothing of consequence from Trump folks(meaning looting/setting shit on fire).  a few randos might happen for sure but people are just going to move and on get back to work a month from now unless the georgia recount flips or gets real real close and arizona becomes really close.   both of those things are unlikely.

Has anyone supported property damage either? This is not rhetorical, I sure as shit haven't read all 100 pages, but I don't recall anyone saying "Fuck yeah, burn that building!". Certainly there's been view that it's not surprising, that it's a natural reaction to oppression, etc., and these views are certainly debatable, but that is different than support of property violence.

It’s actually going to be a really interesting study over the next 5 years or so what all the protests and riots did to certain communities.

personal anecdote: I got on a distribution list for a medium sized law firm that specializes in Minnesota property tax and other state and local issues a couple years back.  Usually their emails are about random webex or trainings that don’t really interest me, but I read the last few emails and I couldn’t help but laugh.

The last month or so they have been pushing a new webinar series titled “Leaving Town” that centers around how businesses can deregister and leave the state. That city might be really fucked if they don’t turn things around.  They lose an HQ like target or best buy and they will be Baltimore in a decade or two.
