I commit to you that I will never vote for a Republican. I've only pulled the lever for one in one specific case, and regret it to this day. My feelings wrt the Republican party establishment have been stated clearly and consistently.

Good to hear. I’ve voted republican much more often than you unfortunately. Won’t ever happen again and I’ve told my sons they aren’t allowed to vote republican for local dog catcher for at least another 20 years and why. They don’t always listen to me but I think they will on this one. They’re good people.

@Anastasis continues to ignore SQL injection by the GRU into the Illinois electoral board.  It's almost as it's too malicious for him to acknowledge.  Wonder why?  Mysteries abound.

Sorry for leaving that out. What did Mueller conclude regarding the outcome associated with this aspect of the Russian interference?  Did it involve the Trump campaign?  Did it impact voting outcome in illinois? Should it rise to the top in terms of key components of the Russian influence operation? It only gets a minor mention in the report. Sorry, I will keep it higher on the radar if it helps resolve mysteries for you.

I think that we should harden our election systems, and have stated as much previously.  I thought about having it printed on the back of a jacket, but it didn't really work well with the font that i had picked out.

The Mueller report proved two important things beyond any reasonable doubt, (1) the russians interfered in the 2016 election, and (2) trump is a hopelessly irredeemable liar willing to commits crimes to secure an advantage and would want number one to continue. Hell he fucking admits it.

We knew all that anyway but now we have proof.

The republicans have no problem with either of those conclusions, because they just want to win and “own the libs.” Not much way to run any society, much less than the one we had or at least thought we did. But oh well.

So what to do now, hurry up and get armed? (Anyone get that reference, think Eazy E)

No. Just vote dem in 2020. All the way down the ballot.

There’s a lot of Gen X on this board. 45 years old white dudes like me.

I’ve said this before but in the past our vote never mattered. Always severely outnumbered by the boomers. Who we voted for has never really mattered.

And in the future, our vote wont matter either. Always will be severely outnumbered by the millenios.

But this next year, and this one time only. Your vote will actually matter. Why? Because the boomer and the millenials are going to cancel each other out. That makes the swing voters from Gen X like you and me that will actualy get to decide an election.  For the only time in our history.

Make a difference for once, and at probably the most crucial time ever. At least we will have that.

But I would add that the reason our society “may” be failing, is largely due to the actions of the Republican Party, of which I used to, and to my own youthful ignorance and now shame, supported.

Yeah. So we are going to have a different perspective on that.  Our society is not failing because our political parties are shit. Our political parties are shit because our society is failing.  Not sure that it really matters, but I think that you have the causal arrows pointed in the wrong direction.

Well I disagree.

There are multiple problems with our society. But as I’ve gotten older and presumably wiser, I have come to recognize that a large part of those problems are being caused by one particular party in this country that is owned and controlled by the top .001 percent of this country and is manipulating the rest of it.

Just because they have now lost control of the evil they created doesn’t make them less responsible for it happening in the first place.

Good. Now start posting like you really believe that.

And I don’t mean just believe every single crap the dems throw out. Contrary to right wing troll opinion on this board, I’m not a dem and only voted for Hillary because I viewed trump as a danger to our country, which he is. That and my daughter asked me to,  and I can’t say no to her.

Start posting like trump is the danger to the country like he is. If the election is close, he will claim its a fraud. And then we get into a world of shit. You ok with that bud?

Of course. But lately you’re doing so not in the context of that actual problem, but in the context that it was done to delegetimize an election.

Which if that’s your intent is a lie. Law enforcement abuses warrants all the time. I don’t think they did so here. But even if they did here, it wasn’t illegal under the current state of the law,

Of course. I'm with you. But you have to know that you come across somewhat one-sided.

I also believe Hugo is a crazy person. But not everyone that believes that Trump obviously did some really, really shady shit is. It's fun to troll people that get all wrapped up. Rachel Maddow is an idiot. Some of our more left wing people are bizarre and neurotic. But you only seem to take happiness in trolling one half of the spectrum.

I'm a burn it down guy as well, but I question your motivations. I think you're basically a Trump guy who will always vote Republican while you make up some reason that the Democrats will never get your vote. Because I used to be like you, but there was a point where I realized that settling for the vapidity of the left was better than settling for the nihilism of people like you. I can stand Hugo and bad teammate's lack of nuance, but it's better than your greed veiled in a shroud of "I'm above it all". I used to think that too. But at some point you have to realize that one side is a group of misguided people with different intentions, and one side is just greedy pieces of shit. I hope you'll get there. I really don't mean that patronizingly.

Out of curiosity Brad, when did you start tracking the Texas political forums?

I didn't vote for Trump. If you kept up during the 2016 cycle, you would know my assessment of the choices we were given and how I casted my vote. If you paid attention upthread, you would recognize that I have only pulled the lever for one republican candidate in my life (GWB, first cycle). It was a stupid vote of youth that I regret.  I was naive and foolish enough to believe in things like the "Fiscal Responsibility" banner, and some notion that he would work in a bipartisan fashion in DC.  LOL. What a crock of shit.

Recently. I think I had 5 posts on the shit board. So I'm not up to speed on your choices.

Didn't mean to go hard and if I was rude, I apologize. I voted for Bush once as well. My votes were Bush, 3rd party, Obama, 3rd party, Hillary. I'm as extremely disappointed with our system as you are. I don't mean to come hard at you. I guess I'm slightly put off because you're a smart guy and I always hope there are people both on this board (which is a representation of smart folks) and society in general that understand that gray area is gray area and can deal in nuance and perspective. And you're mostly outing yourself as a "but the other side" guy.

It's disappointing that you sort of have to be on one side or the other. By you I mean everyone. I think I'm just coming to grips with the fact that very few people are parsing facts and making educated decisions every 2 or 4 years. This shit is all a team sport. Lame. We can all be better.

And yet you feel that you have me pegged. All due respect, but I have been posting on these boards for nearly 20 years gping back to hornfans.  There is definitely an evolution in my takes over that time, but some very consistent themes as well. The political board has largely gone unhinged since 9 Nov 2016. Reflecting broader society. Believe it or not there use to be some actually productive dialog around here without the same level of personal attacks. Its fewer and further between these days. Part of the spiral imo.

I think since 9 Nov 2016, shit has gone crazy and even some of our smarter contributors to society have lost their minds. We're all generally on the same team.

And this is part of the reason you've lost all respect.  The older political boards were absolutely, 100% unhinged.  Any progressive viewpoint was annihilated.  You didn't see it then and now you think it's unhinged in the other direction.

"Productive dialog" my ass.

lol at productive dialog going on in the cloak room and west mall. Before trump came along the cloak room was a complete right wing anti Obama circle jerk where guys like swam and clear lake horn ran wild with swam the lead clown of the clown car. I avoided it like the plague.

Tracking the rise of trump was the rise of the so called shaggy liberal cabal (a term coined by swammy himself) and for a brief period of time the board was somewhat balanced due mainly to the fact that the right wing has gone completely insane.

Why this board appears to lean left is somewhat of a mystery but my theory is that it contains a bunch of former republicans who are smart enough to recognize trump for what he is.

I have. I’m not a lawyer or an investigator so I did need some help from experts to get some of the legalese but I did read it all.

lol and now I get that you were referring to the redacted portions and yes, no one but Mueller and his team and Barr - and Trump’s lawyers - have read all of it.

I know that you'll probably disregard the above or attack the sources or say it is not enough because it does not align with your worldview and your deeply and strongly held belief about Trump but there you go.  I'm sure there are stories of the opposite nature.  Like most things, the actual answer is probably somewhere in the middle.

Also, as it relates to the hotel in Moscow, I have no doubt he was planning on getting one built there....right up until he won the election.  Seems to me that he was 100% convinced he was going to lose, along with everyone else on the planet, and he was preparing for things post election.  Then he won.

Sorry about the delay but my weekend was full--DC concerts and sporting events. Yeah, I love DC United and watching them play in the new stadium is fantastic...which reminds me, where are all the up in arms anti socialists when it comes time to pay for a new stadium on the tax payer dime?  New Jerryworld?  Sure, why not--f'k healthcare or educational funding.

Your site doesn't include Trump lifting sanctions on Oleg Deripaska, in January, who was a Putin ally.  He really slow played applying sanctions to begin with: https://themoscowproject.org/collusion/trump-administration-lifts-sanctions-on-firms-tied-to-deripaska/. The good thing about this site is that it lists all of its links/sources which you can also counter research through other resources such as the Guardian or Routers.   And he certainly wasn't happy about kicking out Russian diplomats along with sending weapons to the Ukraine which seemed to be more of an act by others because he was pushed to per WaPo.   In fact the first thing Trump tried to do once in office was lift all sanctions against Russia: https://www.newsweek.com/trump-white-house-secret-efforts-lift-russia-sanctions-putin-619508

However, it doesn't explain his private conversations with Putin, establishing back channels, the Trump Hotel meeting, Russian interference in the elections benefitting Trump as well (https://www.justice.gov/sco).

My worldview is that Trump is a little bitch which explains all of his public support of Putin.

"At least 17 Trump associates had contacts with Russians or Wikileaks, which released hacked documents, during the campaign or transition, according to an analysis of public records by the New York Times, with at least 100 face-to-face interactions, phone calls or electronic messages with Russians or Kremlin-linked figures and at least 51 individual communications." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42493918

Furthermore, the bank which loaned him money was implicated in Russian money laundering along with Trump recently suing them to not disclose his financial records.  This is really a big deal but not to Trump supporters who seem to look the other way with all of his suits regarding his financials.  Especially since he's lied about being forthcoming with them. Remember Obama's birth certificate?  Yeah, so let's see those taxes already.

A 2017 report by Reuters, citing public documents, interviews and corporate records, also found that at least 63 Russians or people with Russian addresses bought nearly $100 million worth of property in seven Trump-branded Florida luxury buildings.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2018/12/21/how-russian-money-helped-save-trumps-business/Whoops!  Despite these financial connections to Russia, some of which are well documented, Trump and his associates have consistently played down the relationship. “I HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA – NO DEALS, NO LOANS, NO NOTHING!” Trump tweeted a few days before his inauguration. A month later, when asked whether anyone advising his campaign had contact with Russia, Trump responded: “No. Nobody that I know of. … I have nothing to do with Russia. To the best of my knowledge, no person that I deal with does.” And his then spokeswoman Hope Hicks said flatly: “There was no communication between the campaign and any foreign entity during the campaign.”

And my favorite:

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy said, according to Entous, a superb reporter who heard a tape recording of the colloquy. “Swear to God.”

but again, more on Trumps Russian financial transactions which you can read to educate or disprove: https://themoscowproject.org/collusion-chapter/chapter-1/

only a few pages.

You had asked for examples of my claim that Trump has been tougher than he is getting credit for, which I supplied.

Any of the financial crimes implicated in your sources will be fleshed or flushed by the SDNY.  I believe I said as much on the TOS that's what will get Trump eventually, not the imagined collusion.

One other thing I've seen discussed is the true or false nature of the dossier.  Disinformation works this way, planted inside a 90/95% true report or study, there will be some shit in there that just isn't true.  Because of one item or data point being false in the report, it doesn't mean everything is false.  The reverse is applies as well.

Unless, of course, you are lying to the American people again.
