Joe Biden 2021

He is talking about raising taxes. Why are people that make $400K a year mixed in with the Billionaires?  It seems to me that there is a big difference between someone making $400K a year and someone making a million a year.  Not saying $400K isn’t a lot but it seems like taxing someone that makes $400K at a 39% rate is much harsher than someone making a million.  Now all you socialists can neg me for asking this question.

I love how he looks to the right when making the tough arguments. You know he's said these things directly to them over his years in congress. If they can't at least listen to him sincerely, it's clear they have zero interest in the country, just their own party nonsense.

I really wish he'd call out Ted Cruz like a teacher snapping at a dozing child.

"We the people are the government"

LOL

i know you don't like that turn of phrase, but it is true. the government is made up of people, and the people who wrote that document were the people ostensibly in charge of the country. it wasn't black people. it wasn't white women. it wasn't non-property owners.

but now it is.

we the people are the voters, the government, the illegal aliens here. it is everyone.

I regret to inform you that it’s time for you to pay your fair share. Your sacrifice is appreciated.

Yeah. The aspects of the speech where his audience were the legislators which he spent the vast majority of his life around vs. the American people stuck out to me, but I walked out of the room a few times and may have missed the flow that seems to have landed with some of you guys.

I wouldn't circumscribe the "we the people" to the folks that occupy seats in that hall, but in more than a few instances it felt like he was talking inside that bubble. May be off, like I said, didn't get the full context of the speech. Bed time for kids and all.

When some give their all, their last measure, to this country, such talk strikes me as entitled and self centered. I might have to pay more, but that means nothing in comparison.

I can't help but feel more hopeful after that speech. I know he's not gonna fix everything, but his properties are straight and he's not kowtowing to our enemies. He said a lot of things previous presidents didn't have the courage to say. I like salty old Joe a lot more after tonight

I think at the very least, part of the requirements for a degree should be something like 9-12 credit hours from the humanities.

That's the way it was when I did my undergrad.  128 hours to graduate, with required coursework in history, English, and philosophy/logic.  Over time, the 128 hours contracted to 120 hours, and technical coursework was added (more programming, etc.).  Guess what got cut?

really wish he had run in 16.

I get why he didn't, and he probably would have won. But I think seeing what far right governance looks like under an idiot like djt has reinvigorated the democratic party and seriously undermined the gop. I'm feeling good right now because that speech was incredible and I'll probably be jaded as fuck again by the end of the week, but I really think djt was necessary to show what the gop really is and why they are so wrong on literally everything. If we can just convince enough people to get another blue senator or two in 2022, this country will be reformed to what a powerful country should be. If that happens, his failure to run in 2016 might be looked at historically is a huge turning point in our democracy.

it was a bit more than just talking to the chamber. he didn't shy from any issue. he was basically (imo) spending the time saying "this is the shit we need to fix, and here's how i would like to fix it, and if you have any other ideas, i'd be interested in hearing them, but i'm not budging on the opinion that this is the shit we need to fix"

Yup, and he knows he can pass his agenda without "their" support

i don't think he can. only so many reconciliation bills until the midterms. so i think he went all in on his outlining the problems, and really giving them a narrative. "look, this big issue sucks, and here's what i want to do about it. (some applause) here's the next big issue that sucks, and here's what i want to do about it."

he didn't spend too much time on any of them, but his focus was on the bullet points of "shit that's fucked."

and i think that it took courage to do it. normally, democratic politicians pick two or three things, and he went full gallon. it was pretty well done.

I really did like his challenge to Republicans. You may not like the big things, so pass the smaller things we agree on.

Really hammer home the obstruction and commitment to not participate
