Tell me about Nebraska

I was shocked to learn that Purdue fielded a player today, Rondale Moore, who had previously committed to play football for another school. Coach Brohm is guilty of getting this young player to go back on his word, turn his back on his future team, and enroll at another school. I can't believe this type of behavior is tolerated in college football.

From late 1800's, to 1940, NU was decent...
From 1941 to 1961, Nebraska was really bad...
From 1962 to 2001, the Huskers were a power...
(Keep in mind, both steroids & prop48 had to be phased out by the mid 1990's so some of those athletes were still there around 2000-ish)...

Since 2001, Nebraska has had a 10 win season 5 times/ NU is in it's 5th losing season since 2001...

Jumping into a league where none of the schools played are former conference rivals doesn't help, but NU should be able to be good in a weak B1G west, only Wisconsin is usually good in the west over the last 25+ years on average, with Iowa really competitive at times...

Nebraska's history is generally overrated.  Yes, they had some great stretches and yes, they won a lot of games.  However, a lot of those 9+ win seasons were in the Big 8 where they played one good team (Oklahoma) and maybe one or two other good teams (some combo of Okie State, Colorado, Missouri, etc.)  They regularly lost to Oklahoma and sometimes beat the other teams.  They could trot about average teams and still roll up 9 wins in a given year.

You could also make the case their main push in the 90's was because of their Texas recruiting, which was helped by both OU and Texas being trash at the time.

Taking a job because it's where you grew up in often a bad idea.  I grew up in OKC and still have many friends and family there.  Would I take a good job there compared to a great job somewhere else?  Hell no.

Frost is a good coach and could have stayed at UCF until a truly A-list job came open.  Now, he's stuck at Nebraska and he won't be able to leave because of the Friends & Family discount.

I do like what he said about the players dancing on the sideline while down by 14 points to a shitty Purdue team.  That was embarrassing.

I've been spending time on the Husker boards, reveling in their misery.  I had no idea about this, but apparently one way Riley rewarded the players for having good practices and whatnot was to give them days off from training and practice.  Jesus.  No wonder they were so bad.  That's a terrible habit to overcome and I can't imagine why he thought that would be a good idea.

Yeah, that's a pretty bad trade off, you go to one of if not the premiere location for talented athletes, in Texas, and pitch this Q&A:

(recruit)-Q: So, what are the key division rivals Nebraska now has..?

(coach/staff)-A: Well, we have a fierce rivalry with Wisconsin & end of year game with Iowa...

(Q): How often will my family get to see me play, that can't make the trip to NU..?

(A): We have a great 3rd tier conference network we share with schools like Ohio State & Michigan...

(Q): But if I stay close to home both UT & OU have thier own 3rd tier networks, Texas' backed by ESPN...

(A): We rotate all our brands for exposure in BTN, from Nebraska to Penn State...

(Q): Yeah, but it's also sharing equivalent time with non football powers Northwestern/ Purdue & Rutgers...

(A): Hmm, well you will get a fine education at Nebraska, and that's what matters most, right..?

(Q): Yeah, but out of the Huskers & an AAU accredited Texas, NU is not AAU, for that matter what makes you better than a non-AAU Oklahoma..?

(A): ...

(Q): How often will Nebraska compete on the field with both Texas & Oklahoma while I am enrolled over 4 years..?

(A): We have 2 games with OU, starting in 2021, and we could face Texas in a prestigious bowl game...

(Q): So you traded both Texas & Oklahoma, for Wisconsin & Iowa..?

(A): No both were played out of division, look at it like we traded for UM/MSU/tOSU & PSU...

(Q): But all of those teams are in the opposite division, and you swapped Colorado for Iowa, as Thanksgiving rival, to share part of a 14 team cable network..?

(A): Yes...

*I really hope the Cornuskers can turn it around, and I think Frost will, but that conference move is not much of a help in recruiting players that can stay close to home in the XII... #GoodLuckHuskers

I could make a case you're full of shit.  1997 National Championship team had seven players from Texas.  SEVEN out of 150+ roster.  1 Starter on offense, and a gotdamn good one, surrounded by 10 offensive starters from Nebraska.  1 Starter on defense at LB, and the kicker Kris Brown, absolute stud.  The other 4 were underclassmen and all played by the time they graduated and were all good players that I remember well.

All good players.

If Nebraska was recruiting the fuck out of Texas in their 90's push, based on your definition, wouldn't they have needed more than 5% of a roster to do it?

But surely, that was because it was the end....

'94 6 players, 1 starter on offense.

'95 7 players, 1 starter on offense, 1 kicker.

You were right about OU being trash, although I didn't think Texas was near as bad.  OU was fucking terrible.

They should beat Purdue and Illinois. After that maybe Minnesota? Also they play Bethune-Cookman as a replacement for Akron.

So four wins at best but probably 3.

OK there is NO WAY they are losing to Bethune-Cookman (right??!!) Illinois is looking like there only shot at getting a Big Ten win.

Roids/PED's, recruiting guys that other schools couldn't touch and allowing them to do whatever the hell they wanted in Lincoln along with great coaching/program development is why they were as good as they were.

Take out the first two and the third can't make up for the shit sandwich they are left with.

Roids and a "lenient" coaching staff or not, that 1995 Husker team is the best college football team I've ever seen play the game.

2005 Texas was also great, and in a hypothetical matchup I'd like Vince Young's chances against anybody, but man that 1995 Husker squad was just beastly.

Don't be surprised if Nebraska pulls an "upset" against B1G division rivals: Northwestern or Minnesota in the coming weeks too...

Lets just say that Wisco is a little inconsistent this year, and might be overconfident after their win against Iowa last week. This is a classic trap game for the Badgers before their next match up against Michigan. I mean, they lost to BYU just a couple weeks ago.

Upset special? It just might be.

Looks like Mike Riley couldn't recruit. Nobody was arguing that he left the cupboard stocked when he left. Scott Frost's first recruiting class was ranked first in the B1G West. Let's see if he can keep that up. It certainly looks like he can use the promise of early playing time to help lure recruits.

I give Scott Frost about 3 years to get the program back in the top 10, as most Husker fans remember NU normally being, (at least I hope so)...

I think he recruited talent, it's starting to sound like there was a lot of coddling.  Play well in your last game and you only have to practice 3 days this week kinda bullshit.  Also, once you were named starter, it was your position, you could not be beat out, only injury would sideline you, not better competitive play.  Trophies for everyone!
