At least they’re honest this time that they just want the oil. Not that it matters to modern republicans whose sole view on public policy is “whatever dear leader says is good.”

Hell, he apparently alerted the oil companies (not Congress) before the attack/raid to snatch Maduro.

Well yeah. Congress is irrelevant and powerless, unlike the oil companies.

Landed in Lima yesterday and uber driver was Venezuelan. He was a Trump fan. We congratulated him then let him know what we think of the pedo prez. What a trainwreck.

Joe Biden's Bay of Pigs was a disaster. We'll use the American military this time. The greatest in the world. I never get credit for that, but that's okay. They were out of bullets, but I gave them the bullets. Tough bullets, ma-an those bullets hurt. Heh heh. Our soldiers now have the best bullets. Better than those lousy wooden bullets Obama had. They just bounce off. Bounce off... Man, giraffe, camera, woman...Anybody seen Ivanka lately? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Mine too. But the algorithm really hit a home run when it recommended "Team America: World Police" after watching a news clip on Venezuela.

Just now hearing his actual press conference. The “media” is a bunch of simpering fools.

Media: “Oh, so how are you going to run Venezuela?”

Dotard: “well we are deciding right now. Probably some of these people behind me for a while.”

Media: great answer, no notes, no follow up

I watched the whole thing and thought the reporters did a rare good job in following up. I think there were at least 5 questions attacking the same issue. Trump blathered about something unrelated most times. The press then moved on to other fruitless queries.

I was too disgusted to check out headlines. I'm sure we got:

US Bombs Venezuela,Threatens Larger Invasion

US to Run Venezuela. Trump Can't Say How

Trump Lies to America about Invasion

I caught a few clips of Rubio from the talk shows over the weekend. Very pathetic how little he is in the decision making. He must be somewhat happy that he's even allowed to talk about this since he's been left out of Ukraine and Israel talks.

he is the same as every other person in trump's orbit. Trump is a mastermind at finding the low qualified and spineless, selling them on their cause, and manipulating them to do his work.

and trump's work is power. He doesn't have any goals actually, not at all. He plays the fiddle of each of these spineless loser's grievances and lets it take him where he goes.

It wouldn't work in a country that had any integrity, principles or a population with a pulse of any EQ.

Yeah, it was pathetic.

But also makes me think he is the fall guy if all of this goes south (it will).

How much money will it cost US taxpayers to entice western oil companies to go back into Venezuela? I figure that we will need to foot the any capital costs and offset any losses due to increased supply. Trump has to be made to look right even if it’s a financial disaster.

During the hurricane sharpie fiasco, if scientifically possible , Trump would have ordered the hurricane to hurt Alabama to prove him right.

how much money to fully support that entire country ?

Exactly I can bet a fiddy that Trump surprised him in the press conference by giving him responsibility for this mess. That is the exact millisecond that you knew Trump got bored of it, washed his hands and put his fall guy in.

Fucking this. If anyone thinks this was a legit operation - well, I've got some ocean-front property to sell you in Arizona. This was war theater and nothing else. Coordinated and targeted "attack" was planned alongside Maduro. We bombed a few outposts and radar installments but it's clear Maduro told his military to stand down. This was probably the better outcome for him than having to face his people. He'll get something cushy like Ghislaine has. Fucking farce, the whole fucking thing. Between this and the faked assassination attempt, it's clear this regime is good at tv theatrics, if nothing else.

I don't know about all that but Maduro sure did look weirdly calm and happy about being captured. Granted it was probably machismo and not an indicator of anything but it was striking.

oh, it's just a theory, but you have to admit it's very plausible and would fit perfectly with this regime. toy soldiers and fake heroism. I simply don't see how you carry this out with zero US casualties or even a downed aircraft. hell, we got bin laden but even that super well- coordinated operation was beset with problems and that was one goddamn helicopter. I simply cannot believe this was anything but pretend war and a way for a dictator to get the fuck out of dodge before his people got to him. if this isn't truth verbatim it's very truth-adjacent. maybe we'll find out later, but I doubt it. I expect these cretins to destroy everything on their way out - assuming they ever leave.

They'll convict him and send him to Ghislaine Maxwell's facility.

Nicolás Maduro has only himself to blame. If he’d spent his career raping 14-year-old girls and cosying up to the Mossad he’d be in DC getting a standing ovation from both houses.

See that 6%? That's 6% more of a fuck than this regime gives about ANYONE'S opinion on fucking anything. They don't care, because they don't have to, because public opinion only matters if you intend to allow/honor the results of actual free elections.

When a regime starts acting in such complete disregard of public opinion, that's a huge fucking warning bell/red flag/DANGER WILL ROBINSON moment.

But it doesn't fucking matter. Because nobody is listening or doing a single damned thing to stop it.

Yeah this is what it looks like the trillion barrels of reserves look exactly like that, they need to upgrade them by importing light crude to mix it with.

This was all a sham to get Chevron/Exxon/Conoco Phillips to reactivate their bitumen fields, probably get a better deal than the current Chevron deal (who is already there). There was no other way to get around the fact that they had to import light crude under sanctions, it is virtually impossible, so they wanted US investments. This is such a joke and a sham, literally everything Trump got was something willingly offered in December, but he had to have his dog and pony show and now 40 people were killed.

Crazy thing is, while I don't believe the story about Trump seeing Maduro dancing and that being the final insult that led to the invasion, I see this as 100% true and accurate.

His death won't solve anything in this country, but every morning I hope it's the news I wake up to.

Kids were home visiting from abroad. I commented that one thing that bugs me is that I think most churches here will be tasteful and won't ring their bells in celebration when he croaks. They both grinned, and said "yeah, that won't be a problem where we are."

I'm not convinced American companies sre going to be lining up to join in this shitshow. These wouldn't be 6 month projects. How long before Trump is dead/out of office/ loses interest and your shit all gets nationalized again?

I was thinking the same thing. But I wasn't appreciating that the only they would risk is American tax dollars. (NBCNews)

President Donald Trump said he believes the U.S. oil industry could get expanded operations in Venezuela "up and running" in fewer than 18 months.

"I think we can do it in less time than that, but it’ll be a lot of money," Trump told NBC News in an interview Monday.

"A tremendous amount of money will have to be spent, and the oil companies will spend it, and then they’ll get reimbursed by us, or through revenue," he said.

Whether the U.S. government ultimately agrees to reimburse the oil industry's costs in Venezuela, or alternatively, decides that future revenue is sufficient repayment, will likely be a key factor for the oil companies as they consider their options.

Trump declined to say how much money he believes it would cost companies to repair and upgrade Venezuela's aging oil infrastructure.

"It’ll be a very substantial amount of money will be spent" by the oil companies, Trump said. "But they’ll do very well."

"And the country will do well," he added.

Despite Trump's optimism, oil companies have appeared skeptical of quickly entering, expanding or investing in Venezuela. A history of state asset seizures, the ongoing U.S. sanctions and the latest political instability all feed into this caution.

Trump said he believed that tapping Venezuela's oil reserves is "going to reduce oil prices."

Gas prices are already at multiyear lows. The average retail gas price on Monday was $2.81, according to AAA. That's the lowest since March 2021.

"Having a Venezuela that’s an oil producer is good for the United States because it keeps the price of oil down," Trump also added.

While lower oil prices could make gas cheaper at the pump, it would likely also mean lower revenues for the same big oil companies that Trump is counting on to bankroll the rebuilding of Venezuela’s oil industry to the tune of billions of dollars in foreign investment.

Asked if the administration had briefed any oil companies ahead of Saturday's military operation to capture deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, Trump said, "No. But we’ve been talking to the concept of, 'what if we did it?'"

"The oil companies were absolutely aware that we were thinking about doing something," Trump said. "But we didn’t tell them we were going to do it."

Trump told NBC News it was "too soon" to say whether he had personally spoken to top executives at America’s three largest oil producers, Exxon Mobil, Chevron and ConocoPhillips.
