To the MF pylon for the win! Look how far behind AD the defender was. The other guy inside the 10 has no chance of jumping the route if he throws a laser. The horizontal stance after the throw too. We fucking had this game.

@Thatguy you’re gonna honestly look at this garbage throw and say he couldn’t have stepped into it and ripped it about 10 mph harder, at the pylon, and beat that DB? He looks so much like Case McCoy in this clip.

LOL what?  X has over 350 yards halfway through his rookie season with the 2-time Super Bowl champions.  I'd say he's doing OK.  Mitchell is one of the most clutch receivers I've seen in years, over 3 seasons at the highest level in college.

350 yards in 10 games lol. There's like 4 rookie receivers who have better stats with way shittier qb's in way shittier offenses than worthy, your ok and my ok are different clearly. I didn't say mitchell didn't make big plays but I'm saying the nuances of route running/blocking/proper body placement were lacking for his size and athleticism. It's possible to ball out in college and not exactly know how to play the position, I think the proof is the colts have a 3rd round wr from north carolina who they throw to more than mitchell and he's 5'9' 170lbs. These guys were such studs that the NFL team their on doesn't make them a focal point of their offense? OK

He has the second most receptions on the Chiefs, along with Rashee Rice and just ahead of Noah Gray, but they're all WAY behind Travis Kelce.  He's fine.  You might want to consider his surrounding talent and the design of their offense.

Out of the top 12 teams, rank them by qbs

as college qbs, i would rank them as such (in terms of i wouldn't want to see them on the other side of the ball regardless of rest of team):

1) oregon (gabriel)

2) miami (ward)

3) bama (milroe)

4) miss (dart)

5) indiana (rourke) [though i reserve the right to revise. he's having a lovely statistical year but horrific competition]

6) tenn (iamaleava)

7) penn st. (allar)

😎 texas (ewers)

9) georgia (beck)

10) notre (leonard)

It was. Maybe him being shocked at the coverage and knowing a fade route wasn’t going to work had something to do with it. Or he just half assed the last play of the game and a chance to play in the national title game.

I've always thought the way he ran the route looked like he thought there was 0 chance the ball was going to be thrown his way.

48 targets and only 24 catches, that seems less than ideal. Upon further digging, 3 of his catches have resulted in 120 of his yards. 21 receptions for 187 yards running a 4.21 40. He's a great longhorn and I'm glad he played at Texas but elite is not a title I'd give him.

I didn't say he was anywhere near "elite".  At any rate, this has nothing to do with Quinn Ewers' alleged suckitude.

There are several ways of looking at this.  Obviously as rookies they have much to learn, but Longhorn rookies are approaching 100 catches.  Has that ever happened?

Worthy had 6 TDs total so that’s production.  With Kelce and Rice he was never going to be the focal point.  Downs and Pittman were first in line before Mitchell arrived.  Seems as though Mitchell was a pick for the future rather than dominate now.  None of those teams are even top 10 in passing yards.  Mahomes is sitting at 10th in passing TDs.

I thought the original comment was meant in jest anyway.

Rice has only played in 4 games, worthy should be a poor mans tyreek hill in that offense with his speed. He should have about 15 more catches since he's been targeted 48 times. Pittman has had some kind of a back strain that has limited him physically, downs is tiny, and alec pierce seems like some kind of journeyman that a 6'2" 210 4.35 wr should easily beat out and take his catches from him. Nabers (shitty qb), odunze (shitty qb), Bowers (really shitty qb), brian thomas jr (mac jones now LOL)...they are doing just fine with terrible qb's....like quinn apparently lol.

if we had the quinn that played against okie state and michigan, i would put him at 2 or 3. unfortunately, that quinn seems to have been murdered superman 3 style by dark quinn.

you will have a hard time convincing me that there is a single qb on that list other than howard and leonard that would have missed the three deep balls against arkansas so wildly bad as quinn did.

dart is inconsistent and does some stupid shit sometimes but he can be deadly with his legs and can be deadly accurate when he's hot. rourke is playing extremely consistently and has a wonderful stat line. but, as i said, that may all be bullshit. we get to find out this weekend. tennessee kid is also inconsistent but has been very good at times. i might revise allar...he's nothing special but he tends not to make the big mistakes. he's one of the more reliable and consistent players on the list along with rourke. but he's nothing special.

to be clear, this might be the worst year of college football qbs i can remember. no one is consistently great. if i were an nfl team drafting, ward is the only one i would even consider and even then, meh. quinn really blew an amazing opportunity to leverage a terrible qb class into a really high pick. but watching him try to throw deep balls was outright cringey and him peeing down his leg every single time the defense shows any designed pressure is not going to endear him to any organizations.

wr's that need a lot of work tend to struggle when they get to the nfl, it's a good barometer for overall how solid they were as college wr's. You can absolutely ball out in college but not understand the nuances of your position. I'm saying if quinn has nabers, odunze, bowers, or any of the ohio state guys from the last 3 years then some of those bad throws are caught. IMO. Just an opinion man.

You're missing what I'm saying, roy williams was a freak athlete that didn't learn to play wr correctly because he didn't have to. If he had committed himself to learning the position entirely then he would have been just fine in the nfl. He shit on college cb's but once you get to the nfl it's about athleticism AND knowing how to play wr at a high level. Vince took off running in college at times when it wasn't necessary just because he could. Had he forced himself to read the defense and find the open wr more times he would have been a better nfl qb for it. There are so many examples it's not even funny, look up just about every raiders first round pick for the last 25 years. They love freakishly athletic guys who put up big stats in college but may not have been great "technicians."

seriously. it’s kind of unreal to imagine. if he’d been drafted by a team with any sort of veteran leadership then maybe roy could have reached his potential in the pros. can’t really blame anybody but himself though. still was just a freak at Texas though. helluva downfield blocker. (😡)

The odd thing is I dont think Ewers is immobile. He has actually shown the ability to scramble (Washington game). He just has really bad pocket awareness. We saw him move in the pocket with minimal pressure and somehow run into a pass rusher that is engaged with a blocker in the Ark game. Somehow, he didnt notice the 600 pounds of humanity. it's bizarre

I like Quinn, and don't doubt your impressions of him as a person.  And having met you in person, you're in damn good shape for 65, and am actually surprised at that age.

But, I think Sam Ehlinger has been our best QB since Colt.  Yes, Quinn has him on a conference title.  But Quinn has better talent and coaching around him than Sam ever had, by a mile.  And I think Sam is a better overall passer, more of a dual threat with a much better pocket presence, and showed a bit more fire and mental toughness than Quinn.

I'm not bashing Quinn at all.  I'm rooting my ass for him these next two games (and hopefully beyond this season).  Just responding to your first assertion.

They are just different QB's.  That aside, Sam was more consistent.  Quinn is better than Sam overall when he is "on" IMO without much question.  I'm not sure Sam could have won that game @ Bama last year.  But Quinn's floor is lower.  When his fastball isn't working, he doesn't have Sam's ability to make things happen with his legs.

Haha, thanks for the personal shout-out.

As a Westlake 'honk,' I love Sam and agree that he was a special, unique player, plus an incredible competitor and winner. And yes, Quinn's team and coaching is much better.

However, I think Quinn's ceiling is higher and I think his top performances have been better. While there is much legitimate criticism of him here, he has made several throws that are simply unreal. His sideline toss to R. Johnson while scrambling vs Oklahoma two years ago comes to mind. So does his TD throw to Worthy vs Alabama, which is (amazingly) criticized here.

Thanks again and congrats on your daughter's transition to college!

The throw he made against OU 49-0 between 2 defenders to JT was as elite as they come.  I think that is the reason for the frustration with Quinn.  Fair or not, you show that kind of potential your first year as a starter, the expectations are that you play at a high to elite level consistently by 3rd year.   My personal expectations were, barring injury, no doubt he would be at the heisman ceremony.  It's expectations relative to performance that is the source of the complaints I think.  He's been a really good QB for us.

I think everyone hopes he can take us on a 3 game heater to end the season and snag a playoff bye and he is 100% capable of doing that.

Quinn transferring here had a huge impact on the trajectory of this program. He led us to a Big 12 championship in record breaking fashion and a playoff birth. People need to remember and embrace that before kicking him to the curb. Manning will have his time, deal with it.

Maybe I have a recency bias because of our frustrations with Quinn as of late, but I'm making a distinction between a better overall passer (Sam) and a better arm (Quinn).  Yeah, when Quinn is "on," he makes some throws we never saw from Sam.  But I think when comparing their college careers at this point, Sam proved to be a more reliable passer than Quinn has.

And whether you disagree with my better overall passer assessment, the sum of my opinion was that Sam is our best QB since Colt, responding to TreatyOak's specific statement, which includes passing, pocket presence, leadership, durability, running ability, etc.

The key to michigans success was defensive depth and being able to control the game with their running attack.
Us being able to run the ball late in games is not the same thing.
