I suggest a Five Point Plan to settle this disagreement once and for all.

1. We watch the Texas vs. Florida game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

2. We watch the Texas vs. Arkansas game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

3. We watch the Texas vs. Kentucky game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

4. We watch the Texas vs. Aggy game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

5. We watch the next Texas game of the season (Bowl game, SEC Championship, or First round playoff). Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss -30 if this is a bowl game +10 if it's the SEC championship.

Then we find the average of these five sums. This gives us his measure on the ULTIMATE SCALE OF PUSSYTUDE/BOSSNESS (working title...in process)

0-65.0 : THE ULTIMATE PUSSY : Sorry Quinn, you are officially and forever a Huge Pussy

65-75 : PRETTY MUCH A PUSSY : Quinn, you had so much potential but you ended up playing like a Pussy for us. There might be hope for you in the future though.

75-85 : KIND OF A PUSSY : Quinn, we would have had a real shot this season if you didn't play like a pussy one too many times. Good luck in the NFL though bro.

85-95 : MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY : Quinn did enough to win, but could he have done more? (I admit if we end up here the argument will go on. I'll take my chances)

95-100 : DEFINITELY NOT A PUSSY : You can say what you want about Quinn Ewers, but he ain't no pussy.

100+ : DUDE IS A BOSS : It turns out you guys have just been haters the whole time. Potential Longhorn Legend.

(This is all completely arbitrary and not based on any kind of science or intelligence)

May the testes be with you, Quinn.

1. Texas 49-17 vs. Florida. Score = 100.0 (QBR 90.0 +10 for win)

2. Texas 20-10 vs. Arkansas Score = 72.0 (QBR 62.0 +10 for win)

3. Texas 31-14 vs. Kentucky Score = 77.6 (QBR 67.6 +10 for win)

Despite the win, Quinn has slid down to KIND OF A PUSSY, with an average score of 83.2 so far.

Please resume arguing...

Don't understand why so many of y'all are freaking out as if every team in the playoff, save Oregon and maybe Ohio State (depending on how you feel about that makeshift O-line), hasn't had similar struggles to Texas all season. Quinn Ewers has played well enough since the bye to keep winning games, and I have no doubt that he'll show up with his best stuff late in the season, just like he always has. I get that there are some merited concerns with him and the offense, but let's have a little faith in the guy that pretty much started the turn around at Texas for Sark and led us to the playoffs last year. That kid was born to play quarterback at the University of Texas, he'll be ready to go next weekend in College Station.

Good morning, Captain Hyperbole.

hi, i’m derka, have we met? hyperbole is a device i’ve been known to use. that said, are you going to argue that the UK freshman backup didn’t come in at halftime and proceed to throw multiple deep balls that were better, more accurate, more confident deep balls than anything we’ve come to expect from quinn? that tape doesn’t lie.

I don't know what tape you're watching but I saw a backup QB come in and make a few pretty good throws to wide open receivers down the field against either busted or very soft coverage. Doesn't really seem like a fair comparison.

literally just play the tape of every QE deep ball last night vs every deep ball thrown by the UK freshman backup QB and tell me that it was even remotely close as to which one threw/throws a better deep ball.

Yeah that UK freshman is gonna be the first pick in the draft. Not like anyone is gonna get some tape of him and take away his strengths. Give him the heisman now.

We've been waiting for Quinn the bounce back for about 4 weeks now. Manning combined with an opportunistic defense woulda put up fifty points against KY today. Right now it's "All Gas and One Flat Tire."

I know everybody on this site is a QB Guru coach in real life and I admit I am not one of those, but when I watch Ewers throw the ball lately it seems to not have any "zip" on it at all.  I know some of his passes are supposed to be touch passes and float a little, but it seems like the ball floats on every pass.  I get he sucks throwing the deep ball but he shows little power even on the short or medium throws lately.  Basically, to my unqualified eyes he doesn't have an NFL arm but when he first showed up on campus, he definitely had an NFL arm.  Is this just the injury he has that is causing this?

No, it isn’t. It’s shocking that he’s so terrible on deep throws.

Every deep ball Ewers threw yesterday, there was a DB molesting the receiver on what should have been three DPI calls.

those db’s clattered into our receivers because the balls we’re so highly lofted and under thrown. quinn truly does not appear to be aiming when he throws the deep ball, he just lofts it up extremely high and in the general direction of the receiver. every time.

In all fairness, that kid looked pretty good. He was facing a serious pass rush and he just kept throwing the ball. Not sure he had an NFL type arm, but hard to watch that game and not be intrigued by that kid. Very impressive first impression for a true freshmen

Yes it’s not fair to compare Quinn to a true freshman playing for Kentucky

and he did it against the best defense in the country. he stood tall in the pocket and he made confident, accurate downfield throws. really stark contrast to quinn, who already is lacking in this area and then was playing injured on top of it.

Let’s just move past arguing over Quinn’s deep balls. They are what they are at this point. He is below average deep ball passer. Yesterday was no different. For Quinn to lead Texas to NC. He needs to continue to hit the intermediate ball and show some composure when things are not perfect

Certain people just can't let it go.  It's as if they think it's breaking news.  (Almost) everyone acknowledges that Quinn's deep ball is not good.  Arch's is clearly better.

Now, look at the rest of the offense and what it demands of the QB and it's not nearly as clear some would have it.

If Quinn is truly injured, Arch may have to start (or enter the game early).  I really don't relish the idea of throwing the kid into that cesspool at night, but it is what it is.  It's not like Quinn has any experience there either.

This is an excellent point. If we don't need to win in Collie Station for CFP purposes, I might even go so far as to argue that it letting Arch start would be worth it for the dividends it will pay next season.

Could we also add in that he needs to be able to walk?

Perhaps I am too demanding here.

per OB:

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers will undergo a precautionary MRI on Sunday after injuring his ankle against Kentucky, according to my sources. Everyone close to the situation is cautiously optimistic Ewers does not have any structural damage and will only need ankle treatment this week.

I think the bye is critical.  Plus, much hilarity would ensue if Texas, a program clearly not ready for the SEC meat grinder, won the conference in year 1.

Agreed. Would you agree that there seemed to be marked improvement in those things in the first half yesterday?

* With the gargantuan caveat that we were facing a poor Ky squad.

We kinda get a bye though if we miss the CCG.

Gotta play for this year.  Would like the 2 seed so we get a first round bye

He didn’t throw one deep ball after his injury. He did throw his best pass after the injury though (Helm TD).

The results will be reported as inconclusive not to give Aggy an indication the Ewers will not start or Arch will start.

Not in the deep ball. He just doesn’t have a good feel for it. The intermediate throw down the middle of the field looked more like last year, that was one of the better signs from Quinn’s game yesterday

Quinn spent a year at Ohio State though.  So he has some cesspool experience.

I called for Arch during the game solely because Ewers was clearly injured and couldn’t move in the pocket. Up until that injury he was playing really well.  I felt Arch would drive the bus more effectively with lower risk to a win. It would also give Arch some snaps before the A&M game in the event Ewers couldn’t go, or is still hobbled.

However, those generally asking for Arch over Ewers regardless of injury have no idea what Sark is seeing in practice from Arch. For all we know he’s really not ready. Maybe that’s why he didn’t put in Arch.

Yes.. The bye would be a huge advantage. A loss to A&M and Texas is likely on the road for the 1st round game, I would like to avoid that

I think it's fair to believe that Sark is just stubborn. He has had a succession plan at QB with Ewers ---> Arch and as long as we're winning, he's gonna stick with it.

But it’s not fair to believe that. You aren’t in practice. None of us are. None of us really know anything.

Posted (edited)

The results that are reported will depend on whether Sark intends to start him. If it "just shows a sprain," that means Sark intends to play him. If he has (at least) "partially torn ligaments," this is Sark's cover to let Arch have a go. The two are the quite literally (no internet diction adjustment required) the same condition, and Quinn has what I have described.

EDIT the MRI may some other things as well, but overall his doc probably pretty much knows what it will show.

Well, it's not fair to believe Arch is struggling in practice without any evidence. You're just making up an excuse.

The fact that Sark didn't bring in Arch when Quinn was clearly hurt yesterday is a very strong sign that he wants Quinn to start next week.

I didn’t say he was struggling in practice. I said “maybe”. I didn’t say he shouldn’t play. I simply refuted your point that sark is being stubborn. Maybe he is maybe he isn’t. You said he definitely is. You’re the only one trying drawing a firm conclusion about the situation with no clear evidence. I’m not.
