I remember a poster back then arguing that Sam would never beat out Buechele and would transfer without ever playing a meaningful down for Texas. Pretty sure it was on Shaggy. Not sure if that was @Derkaor not, but this might be what you're referencing Treaty. If it was Derka, I guess it's true he never said anything about his success in college, just that it would never be at Texas.

He started it in the Sam Ehlinger recruitment thread and continued into the regular threads. I stayed quiet and saved all the most notorious posts trashing Sam, and then shared them all in one long post after Texas beat OU in 2018, 48-45. Derka had several juicy quotes in there and went ballistic after I posted it. It was epic.

i’m not a liar. honestly is a virtue that’s very important to me. and i literally never said that sam ehlinger would never be a success in college. you made that up.

Here is a post I just pulled up post-OU 2018 when someone besides myself says exactly what I said you said: You were down on him before he even got to Texas and said he wouldn't be a success at Texas. This is just one example I pulled up.

Again, I respect you and I am glad you are here, because you make this a better place, but own it.*

I’m so happy for Sam, he fucking balled out today. . I love the way he plays QB, he takes hits and keeps on going. His decision making has been on point since Maryland.  He’s not very fast but makes the most out of every run.  Hookem and Congrats Sam!

Also, can Derka be banned from this thread?  Pegged Sam as a likely transfer candidate before he even stepped foot on campus and has shit on him until today.  Derka you don’t know one thing about how to evaluate QB play or football in general and you should really just shut the fuck up and stick to the basketball board.

*I got my ass handed to me in the dreaded Alec Baldwin Cloak Room thread when I accused someone of not having expertise in my field and they nailed me, but I owned it.

Not arguing the depth chart, I'm laughing at all the experts that said Quinn wasn't an NFL caliber QB.  We all know who they are.

1) I think that everyone on this board likes Quinn.

2) Everyone hopes that he can earn an NFL paycheck as long as possible.

3) NFL QB and NFL caliber QB are not the same thing.

You can be on an NFL roster and not be of the caliber needed to play in the NFL. You can also be of the caliber to play in the NFL and yet not be on a roster.

Go Quinn!

Go Sam!

Go all Texas players who probably aren’t good enough, but keep making a roster!

Go all Texas players who have just been cut and who hopefully catch on somewhere else or on the practice squad!

They are by definition the same thing in one direction (it's possible to be NFL caliber but not in the NFL; the reverse is not). The problem is people saying "NFL caliber" when they mean "quality NFL caliber" instead.

Yeah, this isn't difficult, but here we are.

Nice try. You started by saying he would never be a success in college, which was  statement you made when he was still a recruit. You then said he would not make it in the NFL nor be drafted. In one respect, you were correct. He has obviously not been a huge success in the NFL, but he has been successful in creating a career in the NFL, which is very difficult.

I am proud of Sam because, like Taaffe, he has overcome a lack of top-end talent with hard work and sheer grit.

I remember all slights against Chap players, because, well, I'm sad and insane.

Now I awaiting to see if @Helobious will change his stated view that Klubnik would never be a college success because he is a system QB, and @closetojumping who also thought Klubnik was limited.

I didn't want Texas pursuing Klubnik. I think I wrote something like "let him go be whiteboy awesome somewhere else" and I am glad it all worked out. The guy was worthless in 2023. He was fine last year but he's wildly overrated at this point. He plays in a dogshit conference with superior talent around him, so he'll look great and likely be a Heisman contender. None of that invalidates that I didn't want him anywhere near Texas and I am still thankful Sarkisian saw it the same way.

In short, eat your fucking shit on this one. I didn't say the guy couldn't put it together at the college level. If me not wanting him at Texas hurts your widdle feels, I can live with that. Texas has Arch Fucking Manning starting on Saturday and part of that was because Sarkisian looked at the landscape and decided he'd rather go after him than some long-striding system guy at Westlake that you idiots and Dabo Swinney like to run around honking about.

Don't summon me to this off the rails, bloviating thread loaded with you and other imbeciles again.

So to be clear, in your mind, the only reason he is any good is because he's in a terrible conference and has really good players around him.

Westlake > University of Texas

Haha, over the last 15 years, that actually might be true:

  • Consistent excellence over 15 years vs UT's clown show 2010-2022
  • More competent, consistent coaching
  • More NFL success. Texas had their first player score in the Super Bowl last year, while Westlake has had two Super Bowl MVP's since 2010

Grown ass men "keeping receipts" from message board arguments.  Brilliant.

Congrats on making it to the league, Quinn.  Maybe Dolphins fans won't suck as much ass as Texas "fans".

I mean I sort of agree with ctj on Klubnik.  He started playing well in the second half of our game.  Let's see if he remains consistent.  He put up most of his numbers against turd teams.

A lot of people are predicting them to go far, but of course, none of that matters 'til it does.

Maybe I should've laid down some money on him in Vegas too.  I put $100 on Arch and $50 on Jeremiah Smith.

Smith is a very solid bet QB item aside.

Of course we all preferred Arch, but to his credit he did have the most passing yards of any QB against our superior talent on D last year.

As bad as the ACC is, and despite likely having a good OL, a bad Miami defense is going likely to get worse. New coaching staff, tons of transfers and

Beck very nearly mirrored Ewers in the injury department and out performed him on turn overs. He did have the most AR drops so...

Beck is NOT Cam, not nearly as mobile and if he runs he could get injured. I don't know that he's going to improve dramatically, particularly when Miami is going to likely need to air it out regularly. I'm not sure he'll finish the season.

right, like you and 50 other people aren’t chomping at the bit for quinn to thrive, specifically so that you run to this thread and dunk on me for five straight pages. like if quinn wins the starting job, makes the pro bowl, throws for 35 tds, etc, like none of you are going to say anything to me, because that would be wrong, and sad, and if anyone did say anything to me you would then quote them and tell them how pathetic they are for caring. yeah. right.

i took crazy abuse for years for my correct opinion and then when proven correct i posted one screen shot and asked if anyone wanted to come forward and eat crow, and you’re in here all dramatic and acting like i’ve done something heinous or crazy. give me a break.

giphy.gif?cid=9b38fe91utwd5w18rdo84hqqwd

also, ftr, you’ve made it blatantly clear for years that you care sooooooo much about basically everything that i post, so uh, stones in glass houses and whatnot.

No, dude, sorry to disappoint you but you’re not that important to most of us.  Why do you hate Quinn so much?  Like, what’s that even about?  I don’t get it.

One note - there’s always a chance he gets cut if there’s someone on waivers they must have, but that’s highly unlikely considering where they are in the waiver order.

And that they need 3 QBs…

This is a perfect addition to the Quinn Ewers thread to show that nothing ever changes around here.

Here is my post I cited from the Sam Ehlinger 2018 thread page 35 that I posted an hour after Sam led the win over OU. I had been collecting a tiny bit of the Sam vitriol from the thread and shared it after the game. I cited all the posters for each comment and I have to admit that some of them are pretty funny! You can see the usual suspects below, haha.

Apparently, I had apolgized to you, @Derka, but had retracted my apology for the below comments, which is funny.

And @closetojumping, you seem to not have been too big a fan of Sam. Just saying. And @6th Street, before the game, you wanted to switch us to switch to Kyler and OU takes Sam.

I went back and pulled these comments from this thread. All of these comments were posted here AFTER our first victory at K-State since 2002. I'll let the words speak for themselves. Moving forward, my greatest hope is that we support our players, cause they're really awesome.

"Not at all. I just prefer to have a different type of QB than what Sam has to offer." T’Boo Ted Marshall

"...in other words we wouldn't be surprised if blitz packages and disguised coverages lead sam to turning the ball over, or if OU decides to blitz on every single 3rd down and 4+ because sam has proven that he can't hit an open wr even when he has a clean pocket. we won't be surprised if accounting for 6 total offensive points vs OU results in a blowout loss." Goo Punch

"Either they teach Sam how to throw a football or find someone who does. Beck gets paid $800k to coach our QBs." 6th Street

"That first long pass where the WR was all alone and Sam missed him by a mile, I think that there’s no fixing that." XYZ

"I don’t think his football IQ will improve much…" closetojumping

"I don’t think Ehlinger is good enough to merit the other guys not pushing him or not passing him. ...unless Mehlinger just totally shuts it down by being a part of a 12-2 season here this year or something." closetojumping

"Outside of mocking Lolinger…" closetojumping

"He is inaccurate, that is fact. Completion % be damned. Watch the game with your eyes." Fico

"Half of his completed passes are shit throws that if he was accurate would go for considerably more yardage." Fico

"That is not opinion, it’s fact." Fico

To which Viper responded...

"…Yeah, I'm really not sure why people can't agree with this."

"We would have a much better shot at winning this Sat if we could trade QBs with OU" 6th Street (My personal favorite)

"Sam could learn a thing or two from Case McCoy on how to hit an open WR." 6th Street (this one is also pretty amazing)

"...we're still allowed to point out that he hasn't exactly been inspiring a lot of confidence in his play heading into the ou game." Goo Punch

"…because we're winning none of his obvious flaws matter or are allowed to be discussed. because we're winning we all have to sit around slurping our mediocre qb, right?Goo Punch (Goo Punch, I retract my apology)

I said it earlier today that I am glad you are here and I hope you continue to post, and that this site is richer with you here.

I am glad for Quinn because I had the honor of hanging with him and really liked him as a person.
