Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

Bobby and Gerry stated this morning that they feel Texas is prioritizing LOS players with regards to NIL.  It would make sense.  They are saying that Texas is right in there for James Johnson.  If we get Johnson and Guervil that will be an insane haul to go along with Presley when you include Vodney Cleveland.  We are also looking good for two 5 star tackles.  We may very well end up with four 5 star line of scrimmage players.

Why over spend on freshman WRs when you can get guys like Matthew Golden, AD Mitchell, Emmitt Mosley likely that are ready to produce and may not cost you much more.  Hard to find elite LOS guys in the portal.   No point in paying them to sit on the bench.

Sark also just did an interview with Greg McElroy where he said he feels great, not good, about the WR room.   I imagine he’s not as concerned about landing expensive WR prospects this cycle if Ffrench, Lockett, and McCutcheon are a year in front of them.

Says a lot about just how good Parker Livingstone is going to be for us.

WR is a position I know will be fine, but the Kaydon Finley/Jalen Lott situations annoy the shit out of me the same way the Brockemeyers did.

For the last 10+ years, whenever I see a top legacy or local recruit, I automatically assume they will end up going elsewhere. It just seems to always happen.

Quality DTs and Edge rushers are the unicorns in the portal and a command a massive premium. Skill position guys are a dime a dozen.

If you have 5 start offensive lineman to open big holes, a 3 star RB will contend for a heisman

I must say, I can't remember a time where our D-Line recruiting had so many elite options. Most years, we'd have to wring our hands about Richard Wesley for months. Top 5 EDGE just dropped out of (seemingly) nowhere. Love it.

Don't forget Dylan Berymon.

Our D-Line Haul could be:

Corey Wells - 4star
Vodney Cleveland - 4 star
Dylan Berymon - 4 Star

Potential ----

James Johnson - 4 star
Kendall Guervil - 4 star

Those are all intertior guys.

Not to mention Wesley - 5 star, and we're still chasing Carolton and Henderson. I can't remember the last time we signed such a DL heavy class. Obviously it'll be a task to keep them all in the boat to signing day, but man, things are looking great.

Georgia got stung hard by Terry last year. They vowed vengeance. Calicut is one of their plays to get even. They picked him because of the thought North Shore is a fountain of D1 talent. Little do they know that fountain sometimes shoots out some significant busts. Let’s hope they picked one.

@closetojumping is gonna feel downright silly when Parker McStud goes for 750+ and 10 TD’s this year.

Well, well, well. I've posted a thread on the football board thinking about the 2025 passing game. You and every other other Alan Jackson-loving hillbilly on this site can go there and make your bold prediction as soon as you'd like:

I m not worried for the long term cycle given the past three years of success, but it does sting a bit to be the losers on so many 50/50 decisions.

If we don’t have the $, they don’t have the time.

If we were loading up on expensive skill guys while other powers were taking all the top OL and DL, there would be at least as much wailing and gnashing of teeth. I'd much prefer to be in the spot we're in.

There will always be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Every single player on our roster could be a 5 star and posters here would be freaking the fuck out.

There would be way more than what we now see.

Is it because choice was the only reason he was considering Texas in the first place and immediately eliminated us when choice left? And Chad busted ass to get us in the final two?

Choice is a Unicorn. We’re lucky we had him and he left us a stocked room.

Damari Simeon to Ohio State

That's their first interior defensive lineman commit. Would have been cool, but not a recruitment to.lose sleep over imo.

Oddly specific.

Get Guervil next week and then see if Winfield wises up and realizes Lincoln is a fraud. Even if that doesn't happen, 4 high-end DTs is an outstanding haul.

You do realize James Johnson is committing tomorrow right?

This. He seems really, really good but I get the impression that Johnson and Guervil are just a little better. Would love to get both of those two (especially Johnson) but it seems more likely we just end up with no more than one, probably Guervil. No matter what, this is a monster DT class, especially if they add one of those last two targets.

We are losing out on one "50/50" guy after another. It sucks. I know we're gonna rebound, recruit through the whistle blah blah blah, but it sucks to get second place time after time after time.

Ironically we only need to win 25% of these at some positions.

This also makes a lot of sense as getting and keeping OL is key.  they have to work as a unit moreso than any other position.  DL and Edge, as someone stated, are unicorns.  Big guys that can really move are rare.

It is fairly easy to integrate WR and RB.  They don't need years and offseason weights to bulk up like lineman.

I would prioritize high end corners as D becomes much easier when you can lock down a particular receiver or a side of the field.

We weren't getting Lee, Turntine, and Ojo. Although Ojo might be a guard in college. They didn't shell out for Lee because they're locked in on Turntine and Ojo. They lose those and that will sting

you’re wrong.  sark and the staff are throwing effort and dollars at these kids and they simply continue to tell him thanks but no thanks.  the fact that kids don’t want to be here is highly concerning and should make you question moving forward whether or not sark has what it takes to bear the weight of this program.
