"I trust the 30+ game starter over the freshman" is not a crazy thing for a coach to think. In fact, it's the sanest way for a coach to think unless the freshman in question has been Godlike in his showings -- which Arch hasn't -- or the team is falling off a cliff and in desperate need of anything to stop the fall -- which Texas isn't.

Agreed. For as much as I think Arch would ignite this offense, Sark's succession plan and sticking with Ewers has been a wise decision long term. We won 11 games and have a favorable playoff setup. Broad view, mission accomplished.

But when you get to the actual results on the field and finer details (and the desire to win a National Championship), it legitimately makes sense to play Arch more. There is no QB job to win or lose at this point. The offense has sputtered for quite a while outside of the Florida game. The game of worrying about egos or a controversy should be over now that we are in elimination mode.

Maybe bringing in Arch for a series lights a fire under Ewers. And then we ride with Quinn to victory. I really don't care how we get there, but the offense needs to wake up and play with confidence/swagger to make a legitimate run at the title. It's worth toying with, IMO.

Elimination Mode ftw. The SEC CCG fiasco kept us out of a decent band name for quite a while. Thanks, Hank.

So at this point, I think most people agrees Arch should get more PT moving forward. I didn't see it, but apparently even Sark mentioned that he probably should have played Manning more vs. UGA. So how do we do it?

IMO, I think it would be a savvy and smart move to give him a predetermined series in the first half, let's say the 3rd series. Whether we're up 14-0, trailing 14-0, tied, whatever, give him a full series. He is a solid running threat, but we need to let him throw the ball and make a defense play honest. 3 and out? Fine, no biggie.Turnover? Highly unlikely it's a game changer that early. Just put Quinn back in and keep Arch as a situational option. We move the ball and get a score? Now we've got options.

I think this is the best way for Sark to get a feel on whether it's the right move or not to play him more. See how the team responds to the change/results on the field, and go from there.

Here's the thing, and I'm sober...

Maybe what the team needs is a QB who can go out and make the passes. He's been the in system for damn near 2 years. Ewers is obviously struggling; does that mean we give up on Ewers? Of course not. What that means is Arch is an intelligent kid. He knows the playbook. He's literally 1 year behind Ewers. Not much separation there. He's also a big bodied dual threat who can take punishment if needed. His arm is better, but does that mean he's going to make all of the throws? Of course not. But he can't do any worse.

At this point I'm for whomever. But this shit not using Arch when he's a RS-frosh and has been riding the pine while we can't seem to make a TD to save our lives might be something Sark should look into. You know, like that one play where he scored on aggy and then promptly sat him back on the bench.

How the fuck is the kid going to learn by riding the pine when our second game next season is against baby eater Ryan Day? Sark has had all God damn season to use Arch in a myriad of ways, and now he's scratching his thinning hair and saying "You know what? Maybe the media is on to something? Maybe I should get this kid ready?" It's fucking stupid at how stubborn he is and gets in his own way.

BTW, this isn't directed at you, it's just speaking in general.

Coach is trying to avoid a QB controversy so bad that he was willing to go down with the Quinn ship in the SEC championship game or he is being pressured by the Ewers camp and/or his NIL sponsors. UGA's kryptonite is a DT QB, which is exactly what we had sitting on the bench. Also, his moxie is undeniable. The coach should have acted before he faces outside pressure and criticism instead of reacting to it.

Yall keep saying that. How many times has Sark had the opportunity to sit Ewers for a qb that may be more successful/less error prone during a game and stuck with him. 3 or 4. He doesn’t want a controversy or the issues that come with it. Or he doesn’t wanna piss someone off.

The conspiracy angle is certainly more fun than him (right or wrong) just not thinking Arch is ready right now.

Like someone said above, we’re in the playoffs.   There is no starting QB job nor any other set for the next 4 or fewer games.  Any mix of QB’s, other than the zero Arch that we’re getting now, is going to be greeted positively by the fans,  as a real step in the right direction.

Fuck bringing in Arch for a run.  Let him sling it, first play.

No way, that's what they're expecting now. ZR quad option handoff, run, pop pass, pitch. Profit.

This is the way. Isn't this why Sark invented the "Arch Package" in the first place, to help solve the problems the offense has had in the red zone?

On the other hand, it might not be a band at all.

I'm thinking of a modern-day replacement for, or continuation of, Hee Haw. Who doesn't like scantily clad, busty young women. If Sports Illustrated could be brought in as a sponsor,  you might could add a transgender person or two.

To ease your mind - Arch is a hell of a lot better and more experienced than the QB Ohio State has ready to go on 8/30.

You're wrong. It's exactly what they expect, and it's what he'll do. Whether it works or not is another question.

I think we should play Arch 100% of the time in the red zone. Also probably once we pass the 50. And generally when we're on the other side of the field too.

My mind is eased now. Who do you think starts for them? Sayin? He seems to be the most talented, but I don't know shit from fuck.

Thank god we are in the playoff era. Week one doesn’t look so do or die.

I remember the last time tOSU came to Austin.  I was there with my 10yo daughter, in my 2nd year of season tickets - yes my 1st was 2005.  Dumb luck.

I don't remember our team being there all that much though.  Hopefully I don't remember this next game for the same reason.

On the other hand, Iocane is a powerful drug, so it remains to be seen. 1st and 10 in the Red Zone has much in common with Asian land wars, as we have been seeing lately.

He's a big kid. 6'4 230. He can take the punishment. Not consistently like Sam, but the kid is no pushover. Plus he can throw it accurately, so run or pass, we have it covered. Quinn can't run, and his screen game is pretty good, but that's about where it stops.

So dumb. Do they think Sayin is just going to sit there while they keep looking for portal QBs? That kid is ridiculously talented. If Day were smart (which he isn't), they would let the kid take his lumps and improve.

Bobby said that had we not gotten Arch, we were getting Sayin, and that kid can ball. At least he's not with Bama anymore. Their approach to portal QBs is reaching idiotic levels, and I'm here for it.

Laugh at Greg Davis all you want, but that motherfucker could manage the clock and call a last possession drive to win a 1 score game.  I can think of a few instances in the last couple of years where that could have come in handy.

Since our RZ offense has been atrocious and we have seen what Arch can do in the RZ, there is no reason not to play him if Quinn continues to come up empty. Also, don't just play Arch for a snap or two. Let him get settled. It will not only help us this year but will also get him ready for tOSU next year.

Kirk Herbstreit believes Arch Manning is closer to grandfather Archie, rather than uncles

by:Nick Kosko•about 23 hours ago

Arch Manning is an exceptional athlete, but he’s not like uncles Peyton and Eli, according to Kirk Herbstreit.

He’s more nimble footed, similar to his father Cooper who was a wide receiver. But Arch Manning is closest to grandfather Archie, if you ask Herbstreit.

“I know everybody wants to compare him to his uncles, but he’s probably more like his grandfather,” Herbstreit said on Pardon My Take. “He’s much bigger and stronger. Look at this guy. You know, it’s one thing, you look at him on TV, then you go to the pregame, and you look at these guys in person. Some of these guys just look so different than what your perception of them is.

“And Arch is one of those guys. I mean, his legs, I don’t know if he lives under a squat rack. That dude is put together. He’s not just tall, slippery, he’s quick. He is a powerful dude who can spin it.”

Arch Manning had to start a couple of games when Quinn Ewers went down with injury. But since Ewers came back, Manning’s had a bit of a role in the offense.

Arch Manning a unique ‘Manning QB’

Arch Manning’s threat to run is something that keeps defenses honest when defending him. It is also something that could continue for the Longhorns, starting in the first round.

“You talk about an excitement of where you want to see Texas next year with Arch having an entire offseason to build his game, but he’s nothing like Peyton, he’s nothing like Eli, he’s really nothing like his grandfather, who was a really athletic guy,” Herbstreit said. “He’s his own guy, and he’s got the size that they all have, but his strength and his athletic ability. Who knows what Sark will do in the offseason to build the offense around him, and who knows if Arch will get an opportunity here in these next potential four games.”

This year, Manning is 61-of-90 passing for 939 yards, nine touchdowns, two interceptions, a 67.8% completion percentage, 100 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

“He’s what everybody thought he was,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said, regarding Manning, ahead of the SEC Championship. “He’s athletic, smart, thick. Great thrower. He can run their entire offense, while at the same time creating designed runs, or off-schedule runs. Both are scary. Because designed runs, with him, are tough to defend, because you’re having to defend the whole field. And then he’s also an elite thrower and passer. I mean, he’s a great player.

“They’ve brought him along that way. He’s gained confidence each and every week. He had to start some games. I mean, you couldn’t write a better story for him, in terms of development, to be ready to go and be the starter.”
