My 17yo is done with her first draft of her essay and won't let me read it.  She's a very good writer, I've read lots of her other essays for English or whatever, but she doesn't want, or isn't ready yet, for me to read this.  We'll see if that changes.  At the very least I suggested she let some of her teachers read it.

I know my parents never read my essays either, never even asked for them, but my English Lit and APUSH teachers did.

I'm also talking about apps to many other schools and my boy is applying but stands a 1% chance to get into UT so sadly I belong on this thread.

Somebody smack me upside the head, remind me not to listen to idiots (well, other than y'all), and soothe my parental anxiety.

We keep hearing people say that they need to get their applications in as soon as they can! Don't wait! Competitive degree programs will fill up!  They gotta have their Dip-Tet right this very minute!

Mine is pulling out of his back to school funk and getting back into the groove, but I'd rather him take the time to put together a good looking application/essays.  Possibly even wait until he does some re-visits in mid-October.

My understanding is that as long as he's submitted by the November 1 early deadlines, he's good to go.  That's what all the websites say.

Somebody please just tell me that's correct so I can blow this off.  I'm getting PTSD from the psychotic youth select baseball parent anxiety I spent so much time trying to avoid.

I'd like to know about this too. I understand him wanting to be able to get a progress report in before applying.

Our guy says there's no rush. I think that's schools trying to FOMO you and your kid. Our guy wants us to have everything in line by the end of September and I think that's more so we can start putting in applications in early October. Most deadlines are November 1st. One thing you probably have to do before then is the FAFSA. Most schools won't start looking at applications till after the deadline. I'm sure if it's a private and you're doing Early Decision, those all go to the front of the line because there's definite acceptances for the school so it's less of a time waste.

Our plan is to apply and do some revisits if she gets accepted to ones she really values and is on her upper tier. If somehow she gets into UT or the CAP is offered then our decision making timeframe is pushed up considerably. I don't think either happens honestly unless she ups her SAT by 100 points.
