I remember the first time I was asked to explain to my son the roles of three branches of government as well as the idea, and criticality, of separation of powers and oversight.  He was 4.  It was difficult but worth it.

This is not worth it.

A Colorado Tesla dealership was vandalized after someone tried to set it on fire early Friday morning and left graffiti that was “offensive and hateful in nature,” Loveland police said.

Officers responded to the dealership near the intersection of U.S. 34 and U.S. 287 around 7 a.m. Friday and found someone had attempted arson and vandalized the building and some vehicles with graffiti, the department said in a news release.

Loveland police declined to release further information about the graffiti or say whether it was directed at a specific person or group, but CBS Colorado reported it included a spray-painted message, “Nazi cars,” on the building, an apparent reference to Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Musk, the world’s richest man and adviser to President Donald Trump, has been involved in recent political controversies, including giving a straight-arm salute resembling the Nazi Sieg Heil on stage at a rally after Trump’s inauguration.

There were two similar incidents at the Tesla dealership on Jan. 29 and Sunday but of “lesser magnitude,” police officials said. The department is now working with the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on the case.

I’ve been doing my best to soft pedal to my kids what the election means for the country.

But on the drive to school the other day my kindergartner asked me “dad, is it true when you said that people that can’t spell “cat” can vote”

For all of the bitching about Trump, what Musk is doing has the potential to bring our economy and our country to its knees, and surprise, surprise, people like Musk won’t be too affected - at the end of the day, he’s got his private security forces and jets and has access to other countries. Of course, if our economy collapses, it’s going to fuck up a lot of others countries.

People like you are probably going to suffer a lot more than you think, and you don’t even realize.

Elon Musk is clogging our big American toilet with his turd of ideas. Our country, much like a good toilet, is one of the greatest luxuries on earth and is not something to be fucked around with by amateurs without a shred of real world experience. It’s like a plumber coming into your house high as a kite and starting the job without turning off the water first.

Last week Elon moved into our house and started planning his next move—taking a massive pipe clogging shit in our collective toilet. He’ll say he’s doing it to flush the waste out of our bureaucratic pipes. Right now Elon’s putting his 25 year old inexperienced action figures on the window sill so they can cheer him on while he takes his subsequent shit down our American toilet. These minions are using AI to provide Elon with optimal seat positioning and splash trajectory so the toilet water doesn’t hit him in the vagina. What they don’t realize (which everyone else can see) is that this toilet is going to get clogged because Elon makes elephant turds and uses an ungodly amount of toilet paper.

In the next few weeks we are going to start hearing rumblings of a potential incoming major system fuckup. It’s going to make everyone uneasy but we all know it’s coming. It’s similar to the feeling you get in the split second after you flush the toilet and realize holy shit the water is going UP instead of down inside the bowl. Normal people stop flushing and go look for the plunger, but not Elon.

Elon and his boys are going to keep flushing the toilet over and over again to fix it, filling the bathroom floor with a layer of shit water. Now the entire country is fucked without a functional toilet and we’re all yearning for the days back when the biggest bathroom problem was people fighting each other in the stores for toilet paper.

Thank you for hearing my ToileTalk

Your analogy is accurate, except that Elon is the high-as-a-kite electrician coming to redo all of the plumbing in your house.  And he hates actual plumbers and everything they claim to know about plumbing.

Every day I’m thinking less and less of someone who drives a Tesla. Yes I understand getting rid of it does nothing to financially hurt Elon. And may financially impact the car owner. However at some point you have to decide what is more important, your morals or a few dollars.

and from a practical standpoint the Tesla market may dry up soon. today could be a good day to sell a Tesla while there are buyers who are paying current market prices. In a year if not months, very few may want it.

I told my cousin this over the holidays - I asked him point-blank what Musk was doing that was going to make his Tesla hold its value (as much as a used car can) and make the Tesla brand as a whole worth more than it is now? I told him that if things keep going the way they are, used car lots will be full of Teslas and trade-in values will be really bad.

It was his first car, so it'll be painful, but his wife mentioned he's been looking at other EVs.

Though it may not be much, selling your tesla does hurt elon at least a little.   Those thinking to buy a new tesla may buy a used one instead.  Also, one of Elons selling points for tesla has always been resale value. As more people flood the market with used teslas, that resale market goes to shit.  Maybe they buy some other ev instead.

Granted, it still hurts the seller more, but at this point you either sell now or hold until the battery fails.

Seems a bit dodgy and claims they only have read-only access, but why do they need read-only access to such sensitive data, and with read-only they can still copy everything and try to dump it into their circle-jerk blockchain.  I do like the bit about the IRS and others still using COBOL.

We shouldn't even be having this discussion.  These dweebs shouldn't be anywhere near having just read-only credentials.

(Bloomberg) -- Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old member of Elon Musk’s squad that’s criss-crossing US government agencies, was fired from an internship after he was accused of sharing information with a competitor.

“Edward has been terminated for leaking internal information to the competitors,” said a June 2022 message from an executive of the firm, Path Network, which was seen by Bloomberg News. “This is unacceptable and there is zero tolerance for this.”

A spokesperson for the Arizona-based hosting and data-security firm said Thursday: “I can confirm that Edward Coristine's brief contract was terminated after the conclusion of an internal investigation into the leaking of proprietary company information that coincided with his tenure.”

Afterward, Coristine wrote that he’d retained access to the cybersecurity company’s computers, though he said he hadn’t taken advantage of it.

“I had access to every single machine,” he wrote on Discord in late 2022, weeks after he was dismissed from Path Network, according to messages seen by Bloomberg. Posting under the name “Rivage,” which six people who know him said was his alias, Coristine said he could have wiped Path’s customer-supporting servers if he’d wished. He added, "I never exploited it because it's just not me."

His comments, made in a Discord server focused on another competitor company, worried executives at Path Network, who believed there was no legitimate reason for a former employee to access their machines, according to a person familiar with the incident. The person asked not to be named, citing the sensitivity of the matter.

I keep my cars as long as possible (my personal car is a 21 year old 4Runner with 225k miles and only the second car I’ve ever owned) and my wife’s Model 3 is a 2018 model (first year available, before Elon went completely batshit) that is paid off and I plan on keeping at least another 10 years if possible. So yeah, I’m going to keep it. And it’s a great car. But fuck that guy. The richest man in the world doesn’t care about my one car.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Tesla owners start seeing their cars surprisingly modified, like a broken windshield, when they have it in a parking lot or garage. As the fed govt cuts spending, it ultimately leads to private companies cutting jobs. Guy loses his job, walks out of a bar and sees a shiny model 3 next to his car. Doesn’t take much for the nearby rock to crack a windshield. Or walk by a Tesla, and a house key puts a long scratch down the side.

vandalism is wrong but people will take their anger out on teslas. There’s a reason people in Michigan didn’t buy Japanese cars in the 70s-90s.

no one cares that you like to keep cars forever and that it predates Elon’s public nazism. Your wife is supporting Elon and his actions by driving the model 3. Its that simple.

To the Tesla owners, I get why you don't necessarily want to rush to sell your cars right this second and it's not some moral failing. But just for your own benefit, I do think y'all should consider how likely he is to get even worse and even more embarrassing, and how likely your position is going to shift from "not yet" to "fuck I gotta sell this tomorrow" within the next like 6 months. There's no way it takes more than 12 months, certainly not 10 fucking years. Much sooner than later every one of you will have changed your minds because it's just that embarrassing. So why not just go ahead and do it now?

As acts of vandalism rise with Teslas, the cost of insuring a Tesla will too. Insurance companies will calculate expected increases of replacing windshields or repainting, so even if a owner’s Tesla is ok in the garage, money will be flowing out of their pocket books.

as for Tesla dealerships itself, they will have costs going up with more security and higher insurance costs. Or higher repair overhead if they self insure.

Not to mention that as fewer and fewer people buy new teslas, Tesla will have no choice but to either drastically lower manufacturing or slash new vehicle prices. Dropping manufacturing is drastic so lower prices would be the first option. If new cars drop 10%, that will push used vehicles prices even more.

I used to drive past this location frequently and never observed any inventory on the lot. It was primarily a service center with a couple new models to test drive. Last time past was probably a year ago. Hilarious that they now have enough inventory on the lot to make themselves a target, and they also have little or no security.

Saturday morning Federal court order

A federal judge in New York has temporarily blocked Elon Musk and his team from accessing the US Treasury department’s payments data, warning that it risked leading to the disclosure of sensitive information.

The order issued on Saturday morning is a new legal blow to the technology billionaire and his closest allies’ push to comb through federal payments in a bid to slash US government costs.

The court’s move came in response to a legal challenge from 19 Democratic state attorneys-general, who argued that Musk’s unofficial “Department of Government Efficiency” unit, which was set up by President Donald Trump, should not have access to personal information relating to millions of Americans.

In the court order Judge Paul Engelmayer of the Southern District of New York wrote that the “new policy” presented a risk of “disclosure of sensitive and confidential information” and a “heightened risk that the systems in question will be more vulnerable than before to hacking”.

He ordered that any “political appointees, special government employees, and any government employee” from outside the US Treasury should be restricted from accessing the agency’s data, and should destroy any information they had obtained since Trump’s inauguration last month.

The order is expected to remain in place at least until a court hearing which has been set for February 14.

The judge’s order highlights how the wide-ranging push by Trump and Musk to selectively slash government spending is facing its biggest hurdles in court, as it tests the limits of executive power as well as America’s privacy laws.

Earlier this week, a federal judge in the District of Columbia ruled that outsiders should not be granted access to the Treasury’s payments data, in response to a separate legal challenge brought by representatives of retirees and government employees.
