Tyrese Hunter is maddening as a player.

You cannot expect a player at a major d1 institution to have multiple good games in a row. That’s preposterous.

I get this sentiment but at least for myself I just assume he is going to suck ass so it is a pleasant surprise when he has a night like last game once in a blue moon.

Abmas is more maddening to me.  He's supposed to be this great shooter but its about 40/60 that he is actually on.

I suppose it's somewhat a matter of perception, but I think Hunter has been far more inconsistent than Abmas this season.

One thing we can agree on is that Terry and this fucking team give the fans a shot to the collective balls on just about a weekly basis.  It's maddening.

oh I agree with that.  I'm commenting on the fact that he is maddening.  He's not good and I resigned myself to that early in the season(last season he wasn't very good until the end, which made people hope the trajectory was up) so he isn't maddening to me.

Abmas was supposed to be this all world shooter and IMO he is good but not anywhere near what we were expecting. he is a zero too much based on his accolades.

If you expected more than we got from Ahmad then you hadn’t watched him at all in the past.

Ahmad Brooks? Ahmad Rashad?  I don't think either of those guys have played basketball recently.

Abmas has been a great transfer, but his size and lack of athleticism are exposed against better talented teams..

He's less athletic than any guard we've had in the last two years.

No knock on him but we're lucky to have gotten what we have outta him thus far.

That's why recruiting still matters

The outlier is no longer when Tyrese Hunter has a bad game. It’s when he has a good one.

100% correct.

It's not even a bad game or an off game thing. Hunter is such a net-negative 80% of the time. He drags the team down. Literally does nothing except miss shots and turn the ball over. Most players who contribute what Hunter contributes during his on games aren't such a detriment to their team when they're off. Hunter, somehow, is.

yes, he is at an athletic disadvantage but he's missing wide open shots a lot.  the funny thing is the 3's he made tonight late were mostly under duress from the D.

It also helps if Hunter makes more shots than a dead guy.

Flashed all the way back to Abe...Abe Lemons, for the youngsters, had a bunch of Abe-isms.  "You scored one point more than a dead man."

It's just fandom in a nutshell. Consider: the baseball forum.

Well that's different. We are a 6 time national champion program with 80 conference titles in baseball and a top 4 finish in 2021. If we had that kind of resume in basketball that would be something else.

Naw. The Fire [Insert Coach Name Here] Thread would get work regardless of Texas' pedigree unless said coach has a couple of championships under his belt.

For example, Pierce has been to Omaha and won the conference half the seasons he's coached, right? That's definitely on par--or better--than the program's historical average. Yet the Fire David Pierce thread gets work whenever Texas has a bad weekend.

And that trend will continue until he wins a title (or two).

I don't understand why everybody flips out when we lose in basketball, like we are some basketball dynasty that rarely loses.

I think it's the way we lose.   We look great for a half.   Then we come out and look like a high school team and the coach seems powerless to change it.   Then after the game he says the players have to play for 40 minutes.   Well, maybe you have to coach for 40 minutes.    If we looked like shit for the whole game, every game, apathy would eventually set in.   But no, we sometimes look really good so people think we should win.

Oh I know. This season has just been brutal. Takes me right back to the late-Barnes and Shaka era.

But it...it is kind of generally what we usually are in Basketball.

But also I was just sort of puzzled by the schadenfreude by the fans of the other schools as if beating Texas in Basketball was some big deal or something Texas fans should be shocked and embarrassed about.

Why would you come to this threat to post this? It’s stupid and idiotic.

Why do fans have high expectations? Because for a brief moment the program was almost a perennial top ten. Until it wasn’t. The journey as a Texas basketball fan:

Abe Lemons - This is a fun guy. He wins some. Hey wow, we just won the NIT, awesome! He’s old  Boot him.

Kaiser Bob - Bobby Knight disciple? He’ll be great. Oh good lord what the hell was that? That’s the worst basketball I’ve ever seen on this planet. Boot him.

Tom Penders - we are so up tempo! This is great! We made the tournament! Holy cow this team never plays defense. Boot him.

Rick Barnes - so that’s what defense looks like. Wow we look like a real basketball team. TJ! Final four! Durant! We are becoming a bball powerhouse. Woah, what’s wrong with Rick? Whisper whisper. Boot him.

Shaka - Well he is one of the up and coming coaches. I’m sure Patterson knows what he’s doing.  Plus he’s bringing Havoc with him so that should cement our standing as a perennial top ten program which is where Texas should be in all major sports. Woah, no havoc? Why is Shaka getting so weird? Nice recruiting but these teams are up and down like a yo yo. It’s all 3 point shooting live or die. Missed the tournament? Early exit again? Boot him.

Chris Beard - Thank you lord! This man can coach. Wow these teams look different. Wait, he slapped who? Dammit. Boot him.

Rodney Terry - Nice guy, decent recruitor but….

I was talking about the reaction of the opposing fans in the post above mine. It would be weird to react to a post in this thread in another thread.

No, actually, it's not.

I believe there have been 76 College World Series. Texas has appeared in 38 of them, so right at 50 percent.

Texas has been playing baseball for 129 seasons and won conference crowns 73 times, a 56.6 percent clip.

In that context, Pierce standing at 50 percent for both metrics seems "definitely on par" with the program's historical average. It's not better, but it's on par.

Are you combining conference tournament titles with regular season conference titles? One or the other, not both.

Bad form, Peter.
