#1 - Where are you getting this understanding of women’s rights in Palestine? Are you assuming it’s the same situation there as in Saudi Arabia or Iran? Because although I’m hardly an expert, from what I can surmise based on some initial research, Palestine has been steadily progressing on women’s rights over the past few decades, enacting more liberal labor laws, harsher laws against rape, and allowing for abortions in certain circumstances

#2 - Even if women were as oppressed in Palestine as you seem to assume, why should this give American women pause about protesting an invasion that is literally killing Palestinian women by the thousands? Do the oppressed not deserve life? Do the oppressors necessarily deserve death? (Be especially careful answering that last question.)

*Except Israeli women, right?

Your second point is the only one that matters, and it's spot on.

The thing is that certain people don't consider Palestinians to be people.

So why didn’t they stand up for it when Hamas was doing it to their own people?

I mean....Hamas was/is an utterly shitty government, corrupt as hell, stealing resources meant for the people, all that shit.....but I'm pretty sure they weren't blowing up thousands of Gazans every month.  Unless I missed something.

And yes, people should have been calling Hamas on the carpet for a long fucking time, based on their corrupt governance alone.

I would say that in my political lifetime, other than some token lip service, conservatism has never been about those things.

Well, there's that detail where the United States isn't selling weapons to Hamas.

This is what fascists do. They lie. And they do so preposterously. Orwell was a god damned prophet.

The implication that “silencing Jewish students” was a goal of the protests is a lie. There were of course counterprotests which, although smaller, were not “silenced” or otherwise harassed by those protesting against Israel.

And stating that the university upheld its values and mission statements is another absurd lie. This is the same university that, just last year, couldn’t shut the fuck up about how committed it was to free speech on campus. Self-congratulatory puffery about that supposed commitment is all over the UT website.

But maybe I’m being too narrow minded. Maybe UT truly is committed to its core values, which only last week became obedience, capricious order, and selective rights.

And maybe Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.

I think people are figuring out what some have known for a while that there are some very rich and powerful people who want to fundamentally change UT Austin.  The issue of how they handled the protests is just in keeping with the tenor and tone they desire to achieve.
I’ve actually heard someone on that list say that conservatism is the only thing they admire about A&M.

What a ridiculous tweet from a reporter employed by a major newspaper.  Do better.

She knows he has them which means she knows why he collects them. Which means she’s purposely framing a tweet to smear him and all the other signers. Which makes her a cunt.

F*ck Trammel Crow and all those rich GQP assholes in Highland Park. They know what they are supporting: fascism and theocracy.

I don’t know if he has supported Trump at all. Certainly not like W or No Labels. Also, from Wiki:

Crow's Dallas residence has an extensive collection of historical artifacts, including communist and Nazi memorabilia. His residence houses two paintings by Adolf Hitler and a signed copy of Mein Kampf.[37][38][39][40][41] Crow's backyard garden features what he named the 'Garden of Evil',[42] which is home to at least 20 statues of authoritarian leaders and Communist icons including Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro,  Mao Zedong, Karl Marx, Hosni Mubarak, Josip Broz Tito, Nicolae Ceausescu, Walter Ulbricht, Gavrilo Princip, Bela Kun, and Che Guevara.[43][44][45] Crow acquired these former public monuments after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc.[3] According to Crow, he collects such memorabilia because he "hates communism and fascism".[46] Crow also owns original paintings by Claude Monet, Rembrandt Peale, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Winston Churchill, and Dwight D. Eisenhower.[47]

Owning great is not necessarily a signal of enlightenment. So did a lot of Nazis. They stole art and pillaged museums all across Europe. And, yes, some Nazis even liked some of the more modernist stuff.

Check out the great documentary The Rape of Europa or the fantastic film, The Train (directed by John Frankenheimer). Both are powerful treatments about art stolen by the Nazis.

Of course Crow supports/ed Trump. It's ridiculous to think otherwise.

And, the "I hate communism and fascism" therefore I collect these things is a really fucking cute spin on this.

Hey, I'm Jared from Subway. I hate child porn so therefore I must collect all the child porn so nobody else has it ...

He has full legal ownership and title to a Supreme Court justice whose wife actively worked to overthrow the government so Trump could return as President for Life. You are what you openly support.

The tweet was horseshit and a prime example of typical media bullshit.  The Nazi accusations are horseshit.  It’s perplexing anyone would contend otherwise.  Criticism of Harlan and his subsidization of the Thomases is equal parts legal, odd and concerning on multiple levels and I’ll never defend that.

I’m familiar with him. I don’t know him personally but know men personally with more wealth than him. His relationship with CT is concerning. Moreso from CT’s part. I’m not familiar with any other “oligarch and theocrats” for which I’ve carried water?

Ok. I think Horns saying “this bullshit journalism is bullshit” with respect to one of our own, and a big donor to UT, isn’t weird. I’m not defending his other political activities. I think it’s “weird” that we wouldn’t call out BS journalism when we see it, but perhaps this forum isn’t as open minded as it purports.

In my world, criticism of "bullshit journalism" would have no concern for "one of our own" and money donated, but shockingly, you feel differently.  Everything is for sale with you guys.
