Texas A&M Recruiting 2026: The World's Drunkest Elk

I have no idea how this running back makes his decisions, but it occurs to me that there is a big difference in the A&M and Texas running strategy.

Go to A&M and become a feature back, and you'll get a lot of carries and, if their line actually improves over the next few years, a lot of yards grounding and pounding. I can see the appeal in that.

Come to Texas and you will likely not get as large a number of touches or yards, but you will be more likely to make spectacular plays set up by our run-pass strategy.

Also appealing.

I wonder if I'm hitting on any reality with this consideration.

Also appealing to RB these days is not being a sole featured back. The NFL views RB as the most replaceable position out there, and it typically has the shortest lifespan in the league. RBs have taken a longer view of working to preserve their bodies in college more than even just 5-8 years ago.

A couple of their highest ranked recruits that aren't on that list of guys that dropped were Singleton and Givens. Per 247, neither of them have offers from Georgia, Bama, Texas, or Ohio St.

I understand that not all offers are necessarily listed on their profile, but for none of those schools to offer those guys, are those players really elite? Overrated or red flags?

Elko is Fisher Part Deux regarding being a star chaser. For Georgia to not even feign interest on an in-state guy means there’s something seriously problematic. Is he a tweener? Is he a made gang member? Is he asking for QB money? It has to be something.

You already know the answer: they don't have enough driving-related infractions.

If you're not getting a full scholarship anyway, sure, go be meat for an SEC team that you love. Get to be in uniform and on the sideline during homegames and you get to play during the week. I'd have done it.

i think if one thing has been established, it's ctj's ability to identify roster talent.

and a decade after kenny hill laid waste to south carolina, we drank all the bourbon that charleston had to offer and i proclaimed jake spavital a plug and play genius . . i am simply going to say i think collin klein is very good at his job and mike elko needs to figure out what the fuck is going on in our back 7.

that being said, literally nothing could go wrong from here on out for the ags.

Texas A&M football promotes staffers Joey Lynch, John Perry to assistant coaches

Tarp (aggie 247)

  • Texas A&M head football coach Mike Elko announced today that football staff members Joey Lynch and John Perry had been promoted to assistant coaches Lynch is going from senior offensive analyst to the Aggies' quarterbacks coach, while Perry shifts from assistant wide receivers coach to taking the full-time reins of the positional group.

Lynch brings nearly 20 years of experience to the new role, including nine years as an offensive coordinator at the FCS level. Texas A&M marks the second stop together for Perry and Elko as the two worked together at Hofstra University in 2006, serving as its offensive and defensive coordinator, respectively. Perry also spent five years as the head coach at Merrimack College during his near 30-year coaching career.

In his two seasons with the Aggies (2024-25), Lynch worked with the running backs, helping the unit produce back-to-back seasons with 2,400-plus yards and 25 rushing scores. It marked the first time since 2012-13 that Texas A&M achieved the feat in consecutive seasons. Under Lynch's guidance, the rushing offense improved from 90th nationally prior to his arrival to 26th in 2024 (195.5) and 34th in 2025 (184.7).

Lynch helped develop Second Team All-SEC selection Le'Veon Moss, who concluded his career with 1,767 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns, despite battling injuries his final two seasons. He also coached Rueben Owens II and Amari Daniels to 1,000-plus career rushing yards.

Prior to his time in Aggieland, Lynch spent three years at Vanderbilt University, serving as the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach for one season (2021) before being promoted to the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach his final two years (2022-23).

While in Nashville, Lynch helped Vanderbilt's passing offense improve from 104th nationally in 2021 to 64th in 2023. Additionally after taking over as the Commodores offensive coordinator in 2022, Vanderbilt finished 94th and 50th in yards per completion after finishing ranked above 100 in the two years prior.

Quarterbacks AJ Swann and Mike Wright combined to throw just six interceptions in 2022, the fewest in the SEC and 12th-fewest nationally. Swann made his debut in Vanderbilt's win over Northern Illinois and went 159 pass attempts before throwing his first interception. It marked the longest stretch to open a career by a Commodore signal-caller since at least 1996 and the longest by an SEC quarterback since 2002. On the year, Swann had the fewest interceptions by any true freshman quarterback with at least 200 dropbacks. Will Sheppard was the primary target for the Commodores, and his nine touchdown receptions were the third-most in school history and ranked second in the SEC.

Lynch also mentored Ray Davis during his final season with the Commodores. The running back led the team with 1,042 yards and five touchdowns to become the seventh Commodore to eclipse 1,000 yards in a season after finishing with the ninth-most rushing yards in a season in school history.

If we made this shit up and posted it, aggies would call us liars. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!

This is terrific. Elko really is an Ivy Man. He believes he’s smarter than everyone else in every single room. Outstanding.

Holy fuck, Elkos hires are as lazy as he looks

If Elko was just regular fat instead of super fat, I would ask if John Perry isn't just Mike Elko in some heavy duty spanx and a bucket hat. But alas, no amount of shapewear could mold that man into anything but a round blob.

I can’t believe Elko is only 48-years-old. He looks in his mid-60s. I can’t believe he was a safety in college. I’ve never seen a safety who could be spin down candidate for nose tackle. For the love of all things sacred, get yourself together, at least for your family.

About his food intake?

Dameyune Craig was promoted from WR to QB coach. We got the aggy QB fairy jumping and throwing drill meme from it.

I cannot wait to see what idiocy comes from this lazy ass hire.

You think Elko is meticulous about his food intake? I picture something more like a giant industrial vacuum cleaner that has been placed in the center of an HEB. Somehow he's added about 15 pounds a year since he was a DB in college. Presumably, as a coach, he's on his feet a lot, moving around, expending calories. How much food is he eating every day in order to add that much weight? Maybe he's drinking it, I don't know. He looks very unhealthy.

That's not an issue since he ate them.

Best thing he’s ever done or will do for his family is sign the contract with aggy.

This could have more to do with promoting a first time OC and him not having a Rolodex of coaches to hire or recommend.

You don't want to lose the offensive coaching team that managed a field goal against Miami which just beat Ohio State by a bigger margin than the Aggies. It's remarkable that these coaches from the new OC on down weren't poached by other programs hoping to emulate A&M's offensive success!

That’s why you money whip proven guys.

Like he couldn't dig down to Tommy Rees and pull him out from the browns? Had some ND overlap. Or Warren Ruggiero. He's either as lazy as he is fat or absolutely has limited connections.

Because Rees probably saw how fat and lazy Elko is

The word is out on Elko in the assistant coaching world. Even though he’s making like $10M/year, apparently he’s pretty bad about bullying his assistants for their per diem money when they’re on the road. He’s then spending it all on Krispy Kreme and bourbon and not sharing with anyone.

I heard that he always makes an assistant coach pay the tabs at Waffle House and there isn’t even a per diem. Imagine being a QB coach and having to settle a bill for 6 porch chop plates and 3 sides of bacon and hash apiece, plus whatever he’s having, at a table for two.

also, just for fun, let’s imagine elko trying to squeeze into a booth.

I was about to board the Tron ride this morning with my wife and kids.

The riders ahead of us go to get on the ride and I noticed that one dude looked like he was clocking in around 350 pounds.

“Man, that guy sat in the test seat and fit? Wow. “

5 minutes later, they still couldn’t get his fat ass harnessed in and he’s yelling at the workers to “just run it anyway, I’ll be fine, goddammit!” as more workers arrived to usher him off stage left. Shut the ride down for almost 10 minutes. Perhaps because I was reading Surly while waiting, I actually thought “hell, that very well could have been Mike Elko”.
