I'll never understand why the NBA makes draft day trades that include picks so confusing. Silver just announced a trade that was public information when the portland pick was made.

Their front office is from the Presti tree as well.  I think being out the lime light may be good and Washington is going to be bad so he'll get minutes and time to develop.....

You're more optimistic than I.  The Wizards seems like a place where scorers go to languish on last place teams, accumulate points and not much else.  It's like tv actors trying to break into motion pictures.  You get labeled and typecast.  See John Wall and Gilbert Arenas.  Hope like hell I'm way off base.

It's way early but so far Atlanta is in the running for best offseason so far.  Anybody who gives ATL less than an A for tonight has room temp IQ.

Still in awe that NOLA traded an extremely likely 2026 lotto pick & #23 for the #13 overall pick.  It's even more hilarious when one considers that they guy they picked at 23 is better than the guy NOLA picked at 13.

I think that's a fair assessment historically of the Washington franchise after the 70's.  I get it, all I was saying its that historically shitty diner who's under new management and when you find out it new management is the new sous chef of the most popular diner in town, you have to hope things get better.  Frankly, Tre has a lot of weakness in his game so wherever he can develop the most will be the best place for him and new management is from a place which traditionally drafted well and developed well, that's all.

So Duke had three players taken in the top-10 and didn't win the national championship.

Not sure what is more ‘impressive’ — the Duke note or Rutgers having two players drafted in the top five and having a losing record.

Absolutely baffling.  Shaka-esque

watch Rutgers go on a serious heater next March while Ace is 15-61 in Utah

Agreed. This seems like something relatively easy to fix. This stems from trades not being official on draft night, so it’s the Grizz drafting X, but it’s really Portland’s pick in a handshake agreement that hasn’t been finalized. Seems something Adam Silver could just wave a wand to fix.

So after processing last night... I still can't get over the Pels trading an unprotected FRP (the best of theirs or Milwaukee's) in next years draft and #23 to move up 10 spots. It's like Joe Dumars is saying, "Remember that time I drafted Darko Milicic over Carmelo Anthony, Dywane Wade, and Chris Bosh? Well, hold my beer." And I absolutely love Queen's game, but the pairing of him and Zion in New Orleans should be on the Food Network, not a basketball court. In a stacked west, they have next to zero chance of making the playoffs next year. That and the reach with Fears.... that was the hurricane Katrina of draft nights.

I also don't get the Nets. Five picks including a horrible over reach for Demin. Saraf is like the Israeli version of Jordan Poole. I like Traore a bit, especially if his shooting has improved and then two more jags, albeit Wolf could end up being something. That something could end up being dunked on 6 times a game, but still something. When you're picking in the 20's its always a crap shoot and that roster is undergoing a total rebuild so I get trying to swing for the fences,... but yuck.

Frankly its a HUGE knock on both those guys.    Factor in Ace being weird as fuck and not working out for any team I wouldnt have touched him.

Hilarious

I'm completely shocked that they actually made all of those picks.   I would've bet they would traded at least to get back picks in the future.   I know their roster pretty much sucks but I cant imagine they have room for 5 rookies.  Just silly to draft them especially when none are truly high upside guys.

I saw a tweet joking that Ace Bailey has already requested a trade from the Jazz, but man I could see it happening. Just look at that face announcing that the Jazz picked him. Lol...

as a fan of a team who can pick swap with the Nets in 2027, i came out of last night's draft extremely gruntled.  the only fanbase who should be more gruntled after last night is the Hawks' fanbase.

I get it. But I'd be way more afraid of Ace Bailey being a bust than Harper. I've heard Rutgers coaching was simply terrible.

where did he want to go? Brooklyn at 8?

From what I saw, anywhere but CHA and UTA.   Seems like the smarter play would have been to go hard in workouts and try and go above them to either PHI or SA.  He would get more money that way too but what the hell do I know

Should have stuck it out in Philly. At least he’d be on the East Coast in a large city. George is hurt all the time. He had a lane to ample playing time.

Theyre gonna play 5 rookies, cam johnson, cam thomas, Drew Timme and Claxton & see what sticks..

+ have like 100,000,000 in cap space. I dont think the nets are even competing anymore. they want to be glazed for having accumulating assets so people can talk about them being "loaded" vs competing in the east. only to never be really serious about landing a star

Oh I am.   Especially with Harper being the son of a former high level player.   He should have what it takes around him to at least stick in the league even if he doesnt turn into a star.

Yeah its pretty wild.   With all those assets and cap money AND being in NY you dont hear about them being on any big FA's radar.

Can’t believe the Nets draft. How do they not take a swing at a couple of Euro dudes for a stash-and-see.  Or package a handful of those picks to move up. Or trade for some future assets. What a dumpster fire that team is going to be.

Respectfully, they tried going the big FA route before and that exploded right in their face. They actually built a nice little young core coming off of the Boston trade disaster.

They were making chicken salad out of chicken shit after Ainge raped them and before they did all that Durant/ Kyrie / Harden stuff. It's a borderline miracle they were able to dig themselves out of all that and regain control of all of their picks.

You can say what you will about Marks, but he seems to know how to get the most out of a shitty situation. I think this time they take it slow and build it up through the draft and see it all the way through. But last night doesn't seem like a great start to that process. They are going to need two more tank years most likely.

2? gotta hit on a star first and win the lottery at the right time. i suppose every year you dont draft a star you can just add 3 years to it. lets just say the 5 they drafted wont be more than a role player on most teams/ likely bust so that puts them at a minimum 2030 before they can start being serious. I would've offered SA or Philly a damn good haul for one of the Rutgers kids  to at least  have hope on landing a star to sell to the fanbase.  a BYU guard who's 6'8 and cant shoot isn't going to sell much hope.

Don't take any offense to this but I dont think Spurs fans have any clue how painful a rebuild is if you dont have a generational talent fall into your laps

What’s a painful rebuild?

I'm not offended but holy shit do teams do stupid shit in the draft and make near sighted trades. The Warriors built a dynasty starting with drafting Steph Curry #7. Jokic was a second round pick for fucks sake. Giannis was pick #15. The Spurs had a generational talent "fall in their lap" at #15 as well (after they traded up to get him, I might add).

Every year people do dumb shit in the draft and then you look up and Paul Pierce is available at #10. Halliburton is available at #12. It goes on and on. There are more self-inflicted wounds that prevent rebuilds than there is this amazing degree of difficulty to build a contender. You know, don't mortgage your future picks for overpaid, old vets. Don't overpay your role players. Don't draft guys 10 slots ahead of where they should be drafted.

I just don't get the short term view that most franchises take.
