Yep.  Here are your options to go up against:

.322 average, 60 HR, one player with double digit HR (the pitcher, lol), .502 SLG%, 211 K to 169 BB
or
.332 average, 120 HR, 6 players with double digit HRs, .634 SLG%, 229 K to 284 BB

Anyone who wants to play that second team 3x for a title, in their own backyard, is insane.

plus OU is fucking annoying with the bat slamming walk bullshit.

Also OU is 7th in runs scored, Tech 19th

Let our pitching eat up a mediocre offense - I'd rather 3 low scoring games, with our experienced team, than having to outslug OU with our pitching staff

Mia Scott, who hasn’t given any interviews during her four-year career, has not spoken publicly about her decision. There’s a good chance she will stay in Austin next school year, however; she’s in a relationship with Texas football running back CJ Baxter, a redshirt sophomore next season who stood alongside Scott during her Senior Day festivities at McCombs Field in May.

good for her. It is interesting to me on softball.  the girls are driven to get bigger/stronger/thicker, especially lower bodies for hitting. sure some are naturally that way but I can imagine some don't want to keep up with all that. kind of like when some OL retire from football they lose a ton of weight because they were just doing it for the career.

Just what I like to hear....hopefully they will produce class of 2045 recruits.

"Tech's softball team is good because they paid a very good player to join them" is exceptionally weak smack talk in the year 2025. Like, painfully weak. So weak that I'd be embarrassed on Dark_Knight's behalf, but he's aggy, so he's incapable of feeling embarrassment.

The problems on this team run deep and start at the top. Those of us who have watched all year have known (whether we admitted it or not) that this is not a top 10 team.  Our record is fools' gold.

1) recruiting - I got worried in the fall when I noticed all three newcomers did not look good. Like should-not-have-been-offered-not good.  We did nothing in the portal. I'm not sure I can trust his evals anymore.

2) Assistants - SS is a baseball guy who knows how to coach mechanics for our big bats.  Our gameplans against good teams are not effective.  Our in-game adjustments against good teams are non-existent.  He still hasn't taught anyone other than Mia how to adjust to offspeed.  Worse, we don't even seem to hunt offspeed when we know it's coming.  Back to scouting and adjustments.  Just laziness.

PRT has been a failure this year.  The pitchers obviously haven't developed in the offseason. Every single one of them has gotten worse (though that's a MW special see below).  Her pitch calling in games seems iffy. The pitchers are fragile when facing adversity.

3) MW has a pitchers problem.  I've been on an island saying this, but something is going on with our pitching development and has been for sometime.  Way too many of our pitchers go downhill after their first or second year.  I'll just take MM as an example. Do we really think she just forgot how to throw a dropball? Something she's done since she was a little kid?  She was one of the best in the country at that the last two years.  Her dropball was elite. Now she just throws belt high  meatballs right over the plate.

4) lineup - why in the world does KB even play?  Can't hit, can't field, shouldn't have been offered.  Why does KS play short?  If you are going to have LG in the lineup, you have to move her back to SS.  She's error prone, but she's the best we got.  Why don't we ever break up our lefty lineup a bit when facing lefty aces?  We're just inviting innings of nothing happening at the plate.

5) the little things - Why are  we the stupidest baserunning team in America, every year?  It's just sloppiness and lack of attention to detail.

I honestly think MW is realistically the best we are gonna do.  He's taken us to two MNC finals.  Who else would we want to replace him?  No one thought Ford would piss a drop at TAMU.  Are we willing to take a gamble on someone like that?

But, he needs to do a tear down on the program and do some real soul searching.  And some portal searching.  I'm not sure he will or can do what it takes though.

Made the WCWS finals again.  I'm sure the teardown is coming.  Lulz.

Some neat stats Texas threw out today:

There have been 6 homers to lead off an inning in this year's WCWS - Texas has 4 of them:

  • Joley Mitchell, against Florida, to lead off the 2nd and the 6th
  • Joley Mitchell, against OU, to lead off the 6th
  • Katie Stewart, against Tennessee, to lead off the 4th

Katie's 9 career hits in the WCWS is 3rd all-time at Texas, behind Mia (19) and Bella (10)

TK got her 8th save of her career, a new program record

I agreed with all of it.

It's not all wrong

-Recruiting: Brister was a shitty take, who will be nothing but depth.  Cam has had moments where she looks like she will be a contributor for us in the circle, but she does need development.  Obviously adding Bennett was supposed to be depth + pinch runner, not an every day starter in the infield.  Ah, injuries.  2025 class is legit good, though.  Which makes sense, since we lose 5 seniors

-Assistants: Well Mike and PRT figured out whatever was wrong with TK's mechanics and fixed it.  Mac looks renewed/rejuvenated her last 2 starts (Clemson and Tennessee).  Cam was huge in game 2 against Clemson.  Henry hit a changeup for a HR against OU. Steve obviously saw that all the HRs hit off Pickens were rise balls hit at a certain angle - Katie did the same thing they did!

-Mac shattered your whole section about her in her last 2 starts, lol

-Lineup - KB has improved a lot since she was kind of meh mid-season.  Taking walks, infield hits, some big sac flies to score a runner.  Overpowered against elite stuff? You bet.  Wasn't supposed to be taking 3-4 ABs every game. Moving Stewie back to LF and Goode back to SS after Clemson game 1 - good coaching by Mike.  But he's never going to break up the LLL to start the game, not with their averages and speed.

-Well the stupid baserunning ain't going away.  It's an epidemic.

It took some serious improvement in multiple areas by multiple people (not all of them in uniform) to turn this thing around. Kudos to all who made it happen.

An elite staff would be introspective anyway.  Not sure that can be measured though unless they replace someone or flat out say they need to get better somewhere.

It's so much better to have a team full of 5-stars with a massive under-the-table payroll that does jack shit on the field. Much more honorable.

Good article on Reese Atwood:

https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/45425004/2025-womens-college-world-series-reese-atwood-texas-longhorns-softball-catcher

How life on the ranch prepared Texas' Reese Atwood for the 2025 WCWS

Wow, that's insane commitment from a teen AND parent both.

----------

"After middle school, Atwood joined the Houston-based travel program Hotshots Premier, which was nearly four hours from home. For the next four years, her parents shuttled her around for games and practices. When Atwood was in a hitting slump, she'd get in the car with her dad and go see Hotshots coach Nathan Nelson for an emergency hitting lesson. The distance never mattered.
"I'd pick her up from school at 3:30 and I'd drive almost four hours for a one-hour session," Geoff said. "She'd be doing her homework in the back of the car and we wouldn't get home until midnight. That's how committed and in love with the sport Reese was. As a parent, I was going to do everything I could to help her fulfill her dreams and support her."

Can we fly Coach Nelson up to OKC for tomorrow?

Tech & OU play twice tonight, regardless of who wins the first game - is that right?

Not sure why the WCWS format is confusing. Other than the 1-0 losers switching sides, it’s the exact same format at the MCWS, just condensed

I love the 1-0 switching....

You ain’t getting 3 on Canady in 3 innings

in game interviewer - "so tech coach, did you have any concern about going with Canady in Game 1?"

coach "well I agonized and tossed and turned over it all last night but decided to go with her"

real answer "yeah she was pitching both games and will pitch every other game we play until she passes out....and then we will get her an IV and pitch her some more"

lol @ the OU catcher with a runner at 3rd and a fat girl at the plate.

In the WCWS, you typically go with your ace when you have a day off. What Mike today was unexpected but worked.

Sooners starting to feel salty. Almost tied the game.

it's still 2-0 and Tceh is up to bat.

they didn't almost do shit

That’s not how the play was originally drawn up.

Yes please

You could tell the batter was waiting on that changeup. Two fastballs for strikes. Should've stayed with it. Went changeup and HR.
