Re not blocking, anyone that's watched Reese and knows baseball/softball knows she can't block, which is a shame because that's the easiest of the big 3 skills to learn. She's long and tall, which hurts her, but her struggles there are pure technique.  Just dreadful.  In the past we overlooked it because she's such great hitter - you can overlook a little bit of shaky defense if you are a generational hitter.  But in the post-season, every little thing matters, and our defensive meltdowns - a hallmark of MW ball - came back to bite us last night.

Well, Tceh has not seen as much of Kavan as we have of Canady, which I think was White's goal yesterday.

To the extent it matters, TK will be fresher than NC.  I suspect NC will be a bit tired, I also suspect that it won't affect her/us too much because she's a competitor that will find another gear.

The rest is on point.

That's a pretty shitty goal if you ask me. My opinion is your goal should be to win however possible. You never know what can happen in one of these games. Just ask agroid.

I'll be pissed if Hunter is batting tonight given her dog shit effort last night.

Now THAT would actually be a fireable offense, to me

She is awful.

Said yesterday afternoon it's a part of her game she needs to really work on. Wonder how'd she play at 1st?

Last night is the perfect example of why MW will always be a bridesmaid. The 1 person in the lineup with an effort issue and has no chance of getting a hit he not only leaves in but moves her up in the lineup. At least KC got a sac fly. He also has Joley bunt. And the pitching decisions. WTF? He only puts Mac in for 2 innings but leaves a Freshman whose never been in that situation in for 3? I don’t blame Salmon because MW shouldn’t have put her in that situation.  If he puts Teagan in the start the 5th Texas is probably celebrating a NC.

MW will blow it again 2nite. He’ll probably move Hunter up to lead off and leave KC on the bench. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he puts in Sophia and lets her walk in a couple of runs.

Really disgusting we’ll have to watch tech celebrate a NC tonight Texas could have won with good coaching decisions. Now Texas is frazzled and error prone and tech has all the momentum. The only way MW will ever win a NC is with a true difference maker at P. Cat has used all her eligibility and Texas isn’t getting in a bidding war to get Canady. I really appreciate this team for their hard work, effort and never give up attitude.  They deserved better. Except for 1 player.

So, Mike White apparently is or was a very accomplished fast-pitch pitcher himself.   Having played some fast-pitch seems to be a common element among coaches, if not a prerequisite.  But, like most coaches in most sports, great success as a player is not all that common.

So, perhaps White really overthinks pitching strategy because of his own experience.

I'm reminded of something funny a colleague told me.

Things every man is convinced he can do better than anyone else:

1) run a search committee (this is academia-specific, sorry)

2) build a fire

3) manage a baseball/softball team

I'm really proud of Katie C's AB last night.  She has quite the fan club pulling for her on this site.  It's so hard to come in cold as a PH, let alone facing the best pitcher in the game, easily one of the GOATS of the sport.  She battled her ass off. Kudos to her.

Also Katie C has a fan club because she's stuck around for 4 years despite really inconsistent playing time, initially at catcher/1B, then into the OF, then at DH. She's stayed, she's performed when asked, and has had some big moments.

This. Every game is gamble and you need to maximize your opportunity to win. Either starting TK or going to her in the 5th inning does that. Going to a freshman in the biggest moment of the season is akin to when he just threw Simpson in the game in the then biggest moment of our season against Clemson, and it nearly cost us. Dude is just a terrible game manager.

Well, guess i'll just go to the bar tonight instead of watching the game. Thanks for saving me a couple of hours, buddy!

She has a great arm….thats where it ends with Atwood. There is a reason there are not many 6’1 lanky fast pitch catchers.  She can get better framing, but I have doubts she will ever be a plus blocker, especially on the ball in the dirt right at her.

Been watching games instead of reading and typing. Gonna do it again tonight. Looking for fewer E's from fielders, more K's from Kavan. Prolly need more urgency from Coach Kiwi-breath. Gotta believe this is our time and not going to be thwarted by Tceh and their boughten superstar.

He gambled and it didn’t work out. If Cam gets out of that inning without the 2 strike HBP, everyone is probably praising him

Is there any way we can send Quandre Diggs to the game tonight? I really don’t want to see Mahomes every ten seconds again.

Myles Turner is in town.

All the times the casuals have written off this team:

After the Tenn series loss

After the OU series sweep

After Aggy beat the shit out of us in the SEC semifinals

After Clemson game 1

After Clemson had the winning run on 3rd with no outs

After the projected WCWS bracket had us having to get through OU/Tenn to advance to the finals

After last night

You know way more about softball than I do, but it always felt like this was going to go 3 games. Part of that (to me) is the “rivalry” aspect of it with tech feeling like we left them behind.

But it’s also a championship series. We’ve been in this situation before.

Maybe it’s the caffeine talking, but I feel good about tonight. The analysts, I think, will pick tech to win, they’ll have faced a rested TK, could be naturally tight because people expect them to win, they’ve been getting bombarded all night/morning with notes from tech fans about winning because tech is rarely in these types of situations.

for those thinking Canady is fatigued she was throwing 72MPH risers/fastballs in the last inning.

I do agree that we have seen a lot of her and hopefully that helps.  a clean game in the field would go a long way today.

It was going to go 3 because they were going it throw Canady 3 times. Whoever won game 1 was probably going to lose game 2. Game 3 is where our experience and 3rd game in a row seeing Canady should propel us to a win

I just cannot give up on this team, no matter how frustrating they can be

You don't necessarily see it in their velo especially for someone like Canady. The places you will notice it are in her control and ball rotation. The wrist and elbow will fatigue before shoulder due to the spin and such she gets on the ball.

Man ....what a disappointment.  I posted yesterday about wanting to see her get a chance to straighten out that near HR the day before.....but I was wrong.    She either has a piss poor game face, piss pooor attitude  or she plays like she doesn't give a shit.

Give me Katie C tonight.

Common sense says the more pitches you see from a given source, the greater your comfort level and confidence. Even if you haven't been hitting them hard, recognition at least is simplified a bit. That counts for a lot, because it's so hard to hit a pitch you've never seen.

As noted, Cimusz had a tremendous AB despite coming in cold. Not sure how often she'd faced Canady over the years, but she hung really tough and made solid contact. That's what you need from everyone in crunch time. And crunch time is exactly what this whole game will be. Strike early, play clean and light the tower.

The fatiguing I'm hoping for is not being able to hit her spots as well.

We really haven’t even played good. We won game one based off Canady choking.

we wait to late in these fucking games to rally. Hunter is jogging down the fucking bases, white is having mental lapses, and our infield is still so bad. I’m not sure what’s going to happen tonight but we need our big players to show up tonight

Imma just expect canaday to be on one. And we gonna have to battle.

and what’s up with our shitty first innings to start the game. My damn blood pressure be like, damn bro we just sat down and the bases loaded with no outs??

There is only one elite coach in this sports. Everyone else is meh and they will go as far as their NIL budget will take them. This has to be our year with OU not standing in our way. Get it done, Coach!

Canady won't be tired tonight. She won't even be pitching tonight if the weather forecast is close to accurate. She'll be getting a rest up for tomorrow.

That could kind of fuck all of this up.  Except we have seen her a lot.

Totally agree.  Switching gears a little, she strikes me as the ideal kind of catcher for MLB if they ever automate the zone.  Rocket arm, great hitter. Basically, an outfielder. Can't block well, but moneyball says that's worth the tradeoff.  Can't frame? Who gives a shit, no longer needed.

We better throw motherfucking strikes and play motherfucking defense today.  If Tech ends up hitting piss missiles to beat us then so be it.

I cannot handle another fucking game of fucking piss poor defense and our own stupidity.  And, another thing, the girl who loafed it to the first base instead of beating out the double play needs to watch and learn today.  She better not be playing.

I was really surprised Kavan didn’t start yesterday. I won’t post like I have any clue about the roster or who should have gone but if Kavan is the best pitcher then she should have pitched.

and serious questions for the softball experts. I thought softball pitchers having a different motion allowed them to throw multiple games in a row like canady is about to do? And they didn’t experience “fatigue” like I guess some assume? I mean obviously she’s more fresh with days off but was just wondering since it different than baseball and I watch for enjoyment only for softball.
