When Iraq had it's first vote and had something like 98% participation rate, so many people compared it to America's dismal participation rate.  But, in Iraq, whether your side won affected whether your people got jobs or were persecuted by police.  Iraqi elections could literally be life or death for your clan.  That wasn't the case in the US.  So much of how the government operated was apolitical.  You didn't have Presidents denying FEMA or SNAP based on whether 55% of a state voted a certain way. You didn't have the government directing or canceling criminal investigations based on your clan.  Politics was more academic or philosophical or at least big-picture, slow burn shit.  The low participation rate reflected stability.

That has changed.

Don't get me wrong.  I've been political all my life and have always found it important.  The philosophy and slow burn shit is important. But I've knocked on enough doors to recognize it's not always easy to explain the importance when there aren't immediate, tangible consequences.

A LOT of Americans view politics through the perspective of Trip here.  Too bad not enough of us come to the conclusion he comes to at the end.

He has to know that the next president is going to get rid of all this shit. It would be really embarrassing to have the name of a twice impeached convicted felon and rapist all over the place.

That was quick.

Hopefully, the only reason it’s being done this quickly is so he can see it before he dies. On the other hand, it would be great if he would stay alive long enough to see it get removed.

I don’t know which one I want to have happen more.

Are you saying if you had the choice of him dying tomorrow, or dying in January of 2029, you don't know which you would prefer?

I definitely lean towards tomorrow; however, I would like for him to experience his world falling apart.

Because this is where his priorities lie.

I prefer it be at a later date and in prison, if we live that long.

apropos of nothing, but growing up as an xenennial, we were an apolitical generation. we weren’t taught about government or politics, we didn’t give a shit about government or politics, presidents changed but life never did, and you truly had to go out of your way to learn or know anything about politics.

that’s why it has been so indescribably strange for me, as a man now in his 40’s, to have spent the past year+ learning that not only is the usa not this shining beacon of freedom and equality where anyone can prosper, the dream of every other nation; but i’ve now come to learn that, essentially, israel is a weak, tiny, ambitious bully, and that the United States is just the giant, mentally stunted, emotionally retarded bully who threatens to/actually does destroy anyone who tries to get in Israel’s way. what a bunch of bullshit this all turned out to be.

Well, hopefully you got a civics/government education at least so you knew how things were supposed to work.

The actual nuances of politics on the ground or as practiced are the subject of either experience or a political science type degree.

As far as I can tell from high school, all of the facts about America and its history were made available to me without much shading (America, fuck yeah or Amerikka, either).  But the negative things remained something of an abstraction to me and probably most of us until later in life.

I think that's just the nature of things.  Sometimes you need life experience to interpret it all.

That would be like 10 years from now. If not more. Also he's never going to prison.

If we ever want to return to normalcy, step one has to happen first. I don't understand wanting to wait years and years for it.

I'm sure this "white boy" would not have lasted a day in a winter with men. Let's see how this boy matches up with Lieutenant Speirs.

I will add that this is not legal.  Only Congress can change the name,

And who's going to stop him?  His administration has been routinely violating the law on numerous fronts (e.g., Hatch Act, anyone?).  Even if a court were to rule this is illegal, who's going to enforce that? (deportations while under court order to stand down, e.g.).

The president openly accepting bribes is apparently now just something that happens.

When Trump shoots and kills someone on 5th Avenue, it will be tied up in the court for decades while they litigate if Presidents can do that.

My vote is for the John Milius special - a massive stroke that prevents him from talking or writing, but he can still hear and understand.  He just has to sit there and listen while his legacy is debated.  I believe that would be his customized hell and we could watch.

Remember the end of Braveheart, when the princess whispers in the king's ear, "You see? Death comes to us all. But before it comes to you, know this: your blood dies with you. A child who is not of your line grows in my belly. Your son will not sit long on the throne. I swear it."  And then that look of realization from the king, but he can't do anything about it?

I like that part.

Also, Sophie Marceau is pretty.

Wish I could bet on which one is next: Trump Lincoln Memorial or Trump Washington Monument

Oh he's just getting started with this shit. The Trump Liberty Bell will probably get a fresh new gold paint job. And I have no doubt there's a 3-D printed Statue of MAGA featuring Trump he intends to erect in New York Harbor.
