What an unnatural race the pit stop rules created.  Drivers intentionally driving slow, multiple drivers willingly taking penalties and Max is gonna lead the last 30 laps and finish 4th.

Monaco is a great spectacle, but it just isn’t a race course now. I guess we just have to accept that the Sunday race will never matter.

Speaking of Williams, Alex has yet to finish a race lower than he's started.

AUS - 6 > 5
CHI - 9 > 7
JPN - 9 > 9
BHR - 15 > 12
SAU - 11 > 9
MIA - 8 > 5
ITA - 7 > 5
MON - 10 > 9

Crofty’s idea to make one of the pit stops mandatory in the first third of the race would probably help.  It’s still going to be praying for a safety car in the last half though.

It really is crap as far as racing goes. It really isn't even a race anymore. Perhaps it should just be a timed event. Let everyone go out five times, score five separate laps and take the average of the five and have the winner. Sort of like a hill climb. It's just not really fun, as a race, of course the spectacle is a completely different story.

Still, crazy ass weekend for Mercedes. Really terrible.

Great day for McLaren. Well done by Lando cuz it is so easy to smack a barrier.

It's kind neat that Max, as a single driver, is taking on the top two-car teams in the Constructor's race.

Hadjar 6th and Lawson 8th, crazy! With Yuki 17th, ouch. Hell, even Ocon in 7th. Crazy world in which we live.

The Ferrari radio at the end when Hamilton asked if the leaders were still a minute in front of him and the 30-second response was the Pizza Maker's Kiss. Too funny.

Aston had better make hug damned strides early next season, or fuck them. Completely. Lance Stroll......😂

I'm a little surprised that people haven't adopted this mindset for Monaco, given this has been true for years.  I look at it like the NBA or MLB All-Star Games - it's a big show, an event, but not really a contest, and I don't expect it to be.  Monaco isn't about the racing, it's about Monaco.

All star games don’t factor into the championship tho

I don’t fault F1 for trying something to make it a more watchable parade. It didn’t work, but don’t stop trying or simply leave Monaco.

I do fault them for coming up to a dumb arse response to what happened last year and really didn't address the things which cause the problems and can only be solved by a change in the size of the cars or not racing at Monaco which would piss off all the big money.

Funny thing how they can do things like leave Imola or Spa which they can still actually race a bit and we have to keep this fucking parade route and then they try to fuck over a driver who does the only thing he really can to compete.

So yeah, fuck F1 for not addressing the real problem and pissing on anyone outside the lines so to speak. Let's become more and more like Nascar... said no one.

This,  when you are rewarded for not even trying to compete that is the wrong message and when you reward drivers for purposely going slow and not even having to deploy much defensive skills because the cars are too damn big and the course too damn narrow you have a big problem.

When they immediately went to the drive through penalty for George with the way they let other bullshit go with 5 and 10 second penalties is complete horse shit and that is the time of shit that will kill the viewership they are trying to grow.

You can’t fault any of the shenanigans because it was the only way to HOLD spots.

Fixed it for you.  When you can keep people from passing you simply by slowing down because the cars are too damn wide to pass on a track what skill is involved?

This wasn't a great defensive effort by Williams and Racing Bull. This wasn't even not cutting the grass and over watering your field to negate your opponents speed advantage. I would love to hear the next principals meeting and I am glad we don't have to wait more than a week to get the taste of that bullshit out of our collective mouths.

James Vowles even said on his radio that it’s not how he likes to go racing, but it’s what they had to do.

All that crap for 3 fucking points,   the team that benefitted he most was the 7 place fucking team which passed Aston.

This is why viewers tune in to watch these races,  tactical decisions by back of the pack teams.

F1 really needs a team to challenge McLaren. Max can’t do it all by himself.

It’s time to retire the course. It doesn’t suit the realities of the sport.

The mandatory two-stop rule was not going to increase the chance for overtakes even if Racing Bulls and Williams weren't channeling a 40-year old hispanic woman driving on 610, talking on a cell phone, and looking for her exit because the cars are too damn wide to pass on that track.

Seriously, fucking LIam Lawson "defended" as if he were peak Fernando and how many wrecks did Albon almost cause by brake checking going into the marina chicane.

Make the damn cars shorter!!!

Sadly, Monaco is not a one-off in F1 for zero overtakes.

Even the blue flag passes were dangerous because there track is too damn small.

Get your shit together F1

I read somewhere that one reason the car had gotten longer was the protective area around the drivers and the front on the 23' does look a bit longer, but it really looks longer in the back which is the power unit and the fuel cell.

I am seeing things wrong?

Indy cars have the halo, run faster, and are smaller

The batteries are why the cars are so much bigger.

Which goes back to the issue of refueling and the entire hybrid power units which I have never understood with the relationship between F1 and multiple oil producing countries.

George Russell bringing the heat. I'm starting to like this guy.

"We definitely need to have a real think about what the solution is here in Monaco,"

"I appreciate trying something this year for two stops. Clearly, it did not work at all. For all of the drivers, qualifying is the most exhilarating moment of the weekend.

"Do we accept that there should be no race? And it's a qualifying race. You do one on Saturday, one on Sunday. And the guy who qualifies pole gets some points. He gets a little trophy. And the one on Sunday gets some more points.

"Because that's what we love most. I think that's what you guys enjoy watching the most. And 99% of the other people in Monaco are here sipping champagne on the yacht, so they don't really care."

Get rid of the hybrid engines and go back to V10s running environmentally friendly/synthetic fuels.  Innovate for the environment while also making the cars smaller and the races more fun.  Bring back refueling, too.

A bit along the lines of what I suggested. I’d add a different compound on each of the five qualifying runs. Everyone has to run the five but, they can be in any order depending on temperature and time of day so the teams have some experimental latitude.

Like others have said the cars are just too damned big and the course is too tight/confined. Two years ago when we were walking to the train station after the race we happened upon a storefront that had one of Clay Regazzoni’s cars and it looked like a go-kart compared to today’s cars.

I am pretty salty that this was the last year when we get Monaco, the Indy 500, and the Coca-Cola 600 all in the same day.

Might boycott Monaco out of protest.

But it'll still be two races next year, too.

Agree. I’m not a GR fan, but he kinda 💯 nailed it.

Every. Word. Of. This. Especially V10s. How can we make it happen?

The reason Honda stayed on as an engine supplier and Audi bought Sauber and became an engine supplier is because of the Hybrid engine. It's possible they'll move back to ICE V-8s or V-10s in 2030, but I doubt it

Oh we all know.

Doesn't change what the actual correct solution for the formula of the car should be.

Watched two of the three practice sessions from Spain and a lot of guys had trouble with the back end of their cars jumping loose, especially, it seemed, in Turn 10.

Hamilton is just doomed to misery this season. At the end of P3 he was on the radio basically saying the car wouldn’t shift.

At this point - it’s the car. This is the third driver that cannot drive that car and the set up they’ve built.

I think it is a combination of the car and the team strategy.  They've built a car that requires a very good driver.  But at the same time, they want the second driver to be a clear #2, so a very good driver maybe won't take that seat (or, more likely, Red Bull isn't interested in any proven drivers for that seat).

If I'm not mistaken, Sainz was interested in both Mercedes and Red Bull after Ferrari gave him the boot, but he wanted a long-term contract, and Red neither would budge on that (because of Antonelli for Mercedes). I don't follow the lower levels, but I assume Red Bull must think they have a prodigy coming up in the next couple of years?

Also, if we're being honest, you could argue everyone in the field would be a clear #2 to Max...but agreed that most drivers probably don't want to be on a team that makes it so blatantly obvious that your job is to finish one position behind Max every week and run interference for the rest of the field.
