Article from the Daily Texan this morning - does anybody know what the new renovations are to DKR that would trigger this exemption?

https://thedailytexan.com/2025/07/21/ut-medical-center-to-be-exempt-from-capitol-view-restrictions/

All new construction within certain areas in Austin previously had to abide by Capitol View Corridors, which were restrictions under state law meant to preserve views of the Capitol. However, the recent passing of Texas House Bill 3114 eliminates some of these corridors to accommodate renovations to the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and the medical center’s construction.

Adding the third deck, duh.

I'm pretty sure those view corridors have been largely ignored for a couple of decades.

Pretty sure people care more about seeing the tower than the capitol.

Hopefully Baker, Robertson/Cruz, and Neto/Hutson don't get totally overwhelmed by OSU and UGA.

Has there been any updates on Baker & the rest of that tackle room? I feel good about Goosby and the depth of the interior. I think Campbell, Hutson, and Neto are going to maul people. If any of them go down I feel great about Kibble, Robertson, and Chatman. Baker seems to have a substantial lead in the Right Tackle competition. If him and Goosby have to miss a game or two, what’s the drop off like to Brooks & Cojoe?

Probably difficult to ascertain much until they officially start knocking heads.

Apparently, their IT went down. I thought we had it bad 'til i stepped off the plane and saw the people in a long line trying to re-book their flights...at 3am!! Wonder where they all slept? Probably in the chairs.

I had terrible experiences at AUS on Alaska last month and this month. The ground crew must be severely understaffed. Fucking awful.

One of mine (got delayed at departure and arrival in AUS) said point blank that they didn’t have enough crew to do their jobs. We were delayed over two hours leaving.

I just got back from Ketchikan. We flew Air Canada, though.

Southern Alaska is shockingly pleasant this time of year. Food was also surprisingly good, albeit fuck all expensive.

I’m told 7-on-7s have a different feel this off-season. More deep balls connecting more often. Quinn liked to operate on time and outside primarily, pushing the short- and mid-range game based on timing. Arch seems to approach the sessions differently. Each practice he seems to have a slightly different agenda or aspect he is working on.

That’s some red meat

Something about this reminds me of being in the dome for Ken Caminiti's debut. He was diving around, throwing rockets from 3rd and crushing doubles and home runs. He just did big things. Arch came in last year and threw it long, looking downfield every time (to a fault) but it was really fun to watch.

Some news and notes by position that we’ve picked up prior to fall camp starting:

Quarterback - we’ve heard Troy transfer Matthew Caldwell has been relatively impressive in team work this summer. In other words, Trey Owens has major competition for the back-up spot. In fact, if I were handicapping the job today, I’d lean toward Caldwell.

Running back - Cedric Baxter is pushing the limits of his recovery. That’s the great news. The realistic news? Still unlikely to be full go until late training camp or post-Ohio State. Christian Clark has looked the best he has since arriving on campus.

Wide receiver - the top four have been easy to pick out, perhaps too easy at times which means there are possible depth questions. Wingo, Moore, Mosley and Livingstone are the four. Mosley has been a pleasant surprise. More athletic than anticipated.

Tight end - Endries is your day one starter. He’s exactly what they wanted out of the portal. Off-field, he’s considered a dedicated, purposeful worker. Winston remains one of the surprises of the 2025 recruiting class. Football IQ is high and athleticism and hands much better than his recruiting ranking would indicate.

Offensive line - Cole Hutson is the vocal leader of the unit. Could be battles brewing at right tackle and left guard. Nick Brooks might be too good to keep off the field at tackle. We should find out early in camp if he’s ready to compete for a spot. Nate Kibble is prepared to push at left guard.

Defensive line - Maraad Watson is getting a lot of praise behind the scenes, as are Alex January, Ethan Burke and Colton Vasek. There is a lot of talent on the DL; they just have to figure out the rotation and who plays best together.

Linebacker - Hill, Lefau, Spence and Moore. Texas has not had a group this talented on the same team at the same time in the 21st century. Hill gets the accolades but discount the rest of that group at your own peril.

Secondary - the talent is there, the question is how Texas will deploy it. There are eight legitimate candidates for five starting spots. Continue to hear Kobe Black, Wardell Mack and Graceson Littleton as upstarts in the secondary.

Other notes:

Quinn liked to operate on time and outside primarily, pushing the short- and mid-range game based on timing. Arch seems to approach the sessions differently. - Pete Kwiatkowski, Johnny Nansen and Kenny Baker have apparently been drawing up some deeper tweaks to the pass rush game to account for the variety of personnel they have at their disposal. Not sure exactly what that might look like, but it certainly makes sense. Kwiatkowski is not known as an exotic blitzer by any stretch so Texas appears to be working on adding to its repetoìre.

It's certainly nice to hear about Mosely, but not as nice to hear nothing about the supposedly uber talented Freshmen. Maybe Mosely is just that good. I've always had good feelings about Livingstone.

Although I take everything Burton says with a huge chunk of rock salt.

This is going to be an interesting month for the OL. I think we know who the top 7-8 guys are but fitting on the puzzle pieces together will be the #1 storyline of camp for me.

There seems to be guys in 3 groups: Proven with experience (Campbell, Hutson, Goosby), old but very little game experience (Neto, Robertson) and young with basically no game experience (Baker, Kibble, Brooks)

It's kind of weird in this era to see guys like Neto in their 4th year in the program, but we have basically no idea what we are going to get.

Feels like there are a lot of definitive or near-definitive assertions in there to be based off of off-season workouts without the coaching staff around.

Am I crazy?

(That can be treated as a related or unrelated question.)

I wonder if the loser of the RT battle could slide to LG and start there.  The fact that Neto is in year 4 and hasn't gotten much playing time and still can't win a starting job seems like a bit of a red flag.

Perhaps, although Brandon Baker doesn't really strike me as a guard. Didn't really think much about it at the time when he opted to head to Oregon, but we could have really used Emmanuel Pregnon. Would have me feeling a lot better about the interior of the OL.

He's only been here a year, but I wouldn't say we've heard super glowing reports about Baker to get us excited about the prospect of him starting at tackle as a redshirt freshman.

Baker is consuming a ton of cap space, time to sink or swim. OSU going to be a huge test.

Neto should have gotten more time last year but Flood was pretty set in his rotation. Def more talent than Hayden Connor and Cole Hutson, just needs snaps.

Hutson is what he is at this point. Savvy vet than can make some calls at the line but might struggle against larger NTs. Cruz is supposed to be a stud

Campbell and Goosby are in contract years.

If you watch his tape and look at his numbers in 9 games,  I think you'd expect him to start and be productive. It's pretty impressive coming off a high school injury and playing with Stanford's QB. Also, he was smart enough to get into Stanford and then smart enough to transfer to Texas.

I said something similar about Baker on OTF and Bobby called it “uninformed”. Said the coaches love Baker.

We can hope this, but we don't know. His snaps have been very limited.

There was chatter pre-2024 season that Neto would be presenting a real challenge to Conner at LG. Obviously that never materialized. Like at all.

That was spawned mostly out of desperate hope. Unlike scouts and coaches for the Arizona Cardinals, many of us had seen Hayden Conner attempt to run block. Given how little we saw Neto last season, I assume he’s genuinely terrible.

The thought seems to be Neto is a run blocker and needs work in pass protection. Bobby brought up a good point a few weeks ago and I agree with him. Being a good run blocker is awesome, but the coaches aren't going to feel super comfortable putting you out there if there is an increased risk of their QB getting pummeled by a free blitzer or rusher.

Sark and Flood do seem to prioritize pass pro across the OL. Hayden Conner was legit in pass pro as a guard. His upside in the run game was merely shielding a DL, expecting movement was futile. Neto might just be a guy that does not get it and really struggles with any type of line movement. Physical talent isnt the issue. If I had to bet on a surprise starter on the OL, I would go with Kibble. Him playing in the playoffs was an obvious sign that he was doing something right in practice.

I don’t want to oversell this, but we are winning the next three national championships in a row. They’re going to have to pass laws to stop us.

They may have had to prioritize that with what we had from an athletic standpoint at QB the previous two years.

it is possible, but there is no way to know. Its not like we have a lot of positive data on Neto playing. Without knowing the viability of the options behind him, we are all just guessing.
