Sure but let's correct-course on the convo real quick 😂

Warriors are going to have the same size problem against Minny.

Damn. Looking at the boxscore - Ant was 5/19 and 0/11 from 3.

He had 11 boards, 8 dimes, 3 swipes and 0 turns.

This kid is the fucking. Truth.

ant, donte, NAW were about 4/35 from 3.

I'm not counting Houston out yet but I think GS takes G6.

I thought Redick did a nice job this season and didn't think this series was his fault. Hope they hang on to him but from a Lakers-hating perspective it would be funny if he gets canned.

Unfortunately I started listening to a lot of The Ringer and The Athletic NBA podcasts. They now run my Spotify feed. Some truly stunning horrific recent takes:

- Leaving the Nuggets for dead after Game 3. If I hear one anecdote about the Clippers’ defender depth I’m going to vomit. James Harden plays 35+ minutes a night for them. Unless Bill Russell is playing center, they’re going to have problems on defense. Simmons started the Clippers hype train because he’s a season ticket holder and of course his staff just parrots it.

- Penciling the Lakers into the Western Conference Finals after Game 2. LeBron is their only plus defender/rim protector, 40 years old, and you need him desperately on offense too. Terrible matchup against Ant.

84 three pointers. This is why the NBA is my least favorite sport. I enjoy the NHL much more. Yes I want the Lakers to succeed, but fuck if the sport is just boring. Baseball gets the moniker for boring, but baseball is intricate. The NBA is just shoot 3s and hope you make more.

Uh. Okay.

The Clippers were analytically one of the best teams in the league going into the playoffs. If you saw their imminent collapse then I'm sure you made a bunch of money betting Denver in G5.

Also - Simmons is a huge Laker-hater and hedges his misery and reverse-jinxes them by predicting their success. It's pretty obvious. Just like he shoehorns Tatum and the Celtics into every NBA discussion.

Also - his staff doesn't parrot shit. They have pretty varied takes. And frequently featured are Rob Mahoney who has a degree from UT and Kirk Goldsberry who is a professor at UT.

Maybe it's not your cup of tea but you're welcome to try and find a better NBA pod than the weekly Simmons/Russillo recap.

But yeah - fuck Bill Simmons!

The guys on The Mismatch absolutely parrot Simmons. So does Zach Lowe. So Lowe + Mismatch + Russillo in the Conspiracy Bill Echo Chamber. That’s a sizable chunk of The Ringer’s NBA coverage.

If you’d like to suggest some new podcasts to listen to, I’m all ears.

If you're listening to The Mismatch that's on you.

If you think Zach Lowe or Russillo parrot Bill Simmons then you're either a fucking idiot or haven't had enough exposure to those guys.

I don't care what pods you listen to. I'll keep enjoying Russillo and Simmons and Lowe occasionally while understanding that none of them bat 1.000 and that all of them have biases that you should adjust for.

It sounds like you are wanting a podcast where they predict with 95% certainty what is going to happen in the NBA Playoffs. So - good luck?

Like I said - Russillo and Simmons are the best. I mean they just are. If their ball knowledge (and frequent sarcasm and taking the piss) goes over your head you could try something like First Take or Colin Cowherd.

Group Chat definitely doesn’t parrot Simmons. Bill has said he wants his guys to be themselves and have their own takes.

I like Game Theory in small doses. I also like Hoops Collective because they have some good insights when they aren’t fucking with each other.

Zach Lowe just started like 3 weeks ago…

Hachimura has been good for LA. guy cant miss

I didn’t see the game, but Rui is one of those guys I do enjoy watching. He has a pretty good backstory with his family and whatnot. Unfortunately for my guys we have no size, at all. I assume that gets fixed this off-season when we get an actual center and not a Make-A-Wish guy manning that spot.

I did say the winner of game 5 wins the series so I got that part of the series correct. Good luck against the Dubs. Going to be hard to play Gobert much in that one. Would not shock me to see Draymond miss a game in this series for an attempted decapitation of Rudy.

From espn.com:

The Wolves finished 7-of-47 (15%) from beyond the arc, the worst three-point percentage in a playoff game in NBA history (min. 40 attempts). Minnesota missed 18 straight three-pointers between the second and fourth quarters, tied for the second-most consecutive missed three-pointers in a playoff win since at least 1998

we dont make it easy on ourselves. like i said- if we shoot below average its a 15 point win.  Will be interesting what LA does moving forward this off season. Im sure Lebron plays 1 more full season with Luka. they dont have any draft picks to trade so Reaves/Knecht become some of their most attractable assets. I dont think reaves is some piece that you must have post Lebron, but hes on a decent contract.

Looks like summer 2026 is when theyll get to really form a team around Luka as basically everyones a free agent but its also the year he sign some crazy contract

WCF? Did you mean WC Semis? Regardless I just re-listened to BS's opening monologue after game 2 because I knew you were wrong. Go to 10:40. He says he slightly favors the Lakers if it goes 7, but would not be surprised if the Wolves won. He does the literal opposite of "penciling in" the Lakers to win the series. Before that he also said the Wolves need to shorten the series to win.

What was your prediction after game 2? Lakers also swung to slight betting favorites to win the series after game 2 as well btw.

I’m not for, or against, Redick but, the roster is so lacking. Last night they got 4 points from the bench in 50 minutes.

And all that lethal Bronny James firepower just sitting on the bench. Why you no like winning, JJ?

It’s certainly not JJ’s fault the Lakers vetoed the Mark Williams trade (and loved his troll post after they lost)

Small ball works with a swarming defense, but AR was a traffic cone last night, Luke was fat and hurt and LeBust is 40 years old

I like seeing the Lakers lose in the first round as much as anybody, but it also unfortunately means we have now entered Lebron's annual "pretending he might not play next season decision process" when everyone knows he has to play so that Bronny can sit on daddy's lap again next season have a spot on an NBA roster next season.

He’ll play bc he needs his highly publicized farewell tour

Also the Wolves missing 40 threes - the most ever in a playoff game - and still winning because Rudy went for 27/24 lol

What a night and day difference in performance from game 1 to last night's game.  Game 1 they shot what 50% from behind the arc (someone said it was sustainable lmao) and last night Rudy looked like prime Wilt while everyone else looked like me playing at 24 with the AAU guys.  Gotta be frustrating to be a Wolves fan.  They have several ways they can win games, they just can't figure out a way to consistently execute.

The only way he'll play the "I might retire" card this off-season is if he thinks he can trick the Lakers into paying him more than his $53M option for next year. So...maybe?

But no one is going to buy it. Next year is the all-in year. After next year, they're going to have to start paying Luka and Reaves a lot more money. Right now, they have a little flexibility to add pieces that fit LeBron and Luka, and, if Luka can get his body right, they should be a pretty good team. LeBron will understand it's his last (semi) realistic opportunity.

I think he retired if AD was his teammate and they just got skunked in rd 1. I think playing with Luka bought him another year. And yea he’s gonna want the farewell tour/ tribute videos in every city, moments of silence etc

He's already playing it. Like you said, everyone knows he's coming back, and yet last night he did the same shit he's done after the last couple of playoff series losses

Quote

"It's a business," James said. "So you don't know what the roster will look like next year besides the guys that [are] locked into contracts. S---, I got a lot to think about myself. So I don't know what the roster will look like. I don't know where I stand right now."

Asked to clarify his remarks, James said that when he referenced his contract, he was not alluding to looking at any other teams to play for.

"Just continuing to play, I don't know where I'm at," James told ESPN. "That's what that is. Not coming back to play here. Just playing, period."

He's getting to be as bad as Aaron Rodgers.

Yeah, I'm not going to bury Reddick just yet.  The roster really needs to be rebuilt.  I think they run it back one more time with LBJ and whoever they can plug in with some size in the middle, then start the long rebuild around Luka.

I'll die on this hill but even with the trade, had AD and Kyrie been healthy, Dallas would push OKC to 7 if not beat them.  Their bigs are not only good but legit big.

With Luka, maybe the same.  The Dallas roster was built to cover for him defensively, which is what LA will have to do.  It's why Nico wasn't wrong to trade him and avoid paying $80M per year or whatever.  His mistake was what he got back.  He could have easily gotten Giannis at this point.

Oh you're preaching to the choir here...I thought they'd take them at worst 6 with healthy Kyrie  OKC will never admit it, but I know they breathed a sigh of relief when Dallas went out.  Minny damn sure would have been taken to 6/7 as well.

LMAO @ anyone who thinks Zach Lowe is parroting anyone.  If anything, its the other way around.

Zach Lowe is the best in the business and it isn't close. The Ringer effectively swapping Kevin O'Connor for Zach Lowe is like replacing Charlie Strong with Nick Saban. Mahoney is also very good.

Russillo bums me out on a human level, but the Sunday show with Simmons is very good in the context of the broader NBA media-sphere. I hope Bill does something with Lowe on a weekly basis.

The ongoing question for the Lakers is what now?  They obviously need to upgrade the roster but outside of Austin Reaves, what assets do they have to trade?  They're not in the top 4 in the West going forward the next few years.  San Antonio, quite frankly, is in a better position.  (OKC, Houston, Minny, are also ahead of them.)

Posted

Will the Celtics ever be fully healthy in the playoffs this year?  I don't think they get by Cleveland without Jrue and KP. Tatum and Brown are always listed with nagging injuries, and Brown missed a lot of games this year. I just don't think they are gonna be full strength during the ECF, and people are going to discount the Cavs run to the Finals because of it.

Also, I for one, did not buy the Clippers hype leading up to the playoffs. I also thought Denver would beat OKC in round 2, and as long as Murray can put up 40+ a game they should be just fine 😁

OKC beats Denver in 5 or 6.  Oddly enough, they're a terrible matchup for the Clippers and their small lineup that they've been using.  They'd have Jalen Williams play the 4 and guard KL, Dort on Harden, and Wallace/Caruso on Norm Powell.
