I get it but a lot of it was hindsight. I can't remember the thoughts on Payton when he was here and if there was any rumblings of him being the next coach. I don't think there was. Parcells was definitely up there in age by then and I would hope they were having talks of what would be the plan after Parcells. Jerry only brought in Parcells as a splash hire to get that stadium built. I don't think either of them liked working with each other.

Payton was the main guy who kept Romo on the practice squad, though. Him and Bill saw something in him but he was about to be cut until good ol Quincy Carter got arrested for weed and Romo got his spot. I do think Payton working with Romo as HC would have been way better than Wade/Garrett.

I don’t buy that. Payton tried to trade for Romo when he was Saints HC.

Saints called Payton and offered him the job. At the time, it didn't seem Parcells would be gone after that year. He didn't want to pass up a head coaching position, even if it was the Saints. Dallas didn't seem interested in making him the head coach. Don't think there was any bad blood, just an assistant getting the call to become a head coach.

This. He and the Jones are still on very good terms.

I think what Vic was saying is that Romo was going to be cut, but that Payton kept him around, at least initially, by putting him on the practice squad. (not that Sean demoted him to the practice squad). They saw something in him. Romo gave us some thrills. He completed that pass to Dez at the two yard line against GB, which Dez extended toward the goal. Any decent replay official would have recognized that the ball was down by contact, but we had a replay official who was a life-long Steelers fan. Go figure. Thanks again, fucking NFL.

Payton is a really good coach, but also a douche.

Payton inherited a 5-12 team which he took to 8-9, then 10-7 and a playoff birth. They just beat the undefeated Eagles with 18 fourth quarter points. The Eagles had 7 second half points, so apparently they have a defense too. They gotta be pretty happy in the mile high city.

He’s an awesome coach.

I find the narrative on him and McCarthy to be intriguing. By many accounts, McCarthy is a subpar coach who hitched his wagon to Rodgers for a ring. One single Super Bowl appearance, one win. Other NFC championship appearances but all losses.

The above is pretty much Payton's career in New Orleans exactly, yet he's regarded as a great coach.

I think both of them are the same. Brees and Rodgers masked a lot of their deficiencies. Their tenure after the Saints and Packers, they didn't have those QBs and see the results.

We go to Carolina next week, then host Washington. Then guess what... we're in Denver breathing in that thin air. If you've ever gone from sea level to Colorado and, without acclimating, played any athletics, you know what I'm talking about. Good fucking luck.

That getting worked up over Carolina after watching a meaningless 4th quarter Cowboys defense today is…a choice.

Okay? Welcome to the board...especially on a game day, and during a game.

Have you seen the Longhorn Game Thread?  We all get pretty worked up.

I turned 41 last month. In my lifetime, I can't remember Dallas beating Denver. Had to look it up and Dallas has beaten Denver twice in my lifetime, both in the 90s SB run. No idea what it is about Denver when we play them. The craziest of the matchups was in 2013 when Romo went head to head against Manning in that 51-48 shootout.

That can't be real.

But really, Micah has been the most double teams pass rusher, and still has like the best pressure rate in the NFL.  hasn't turned into sacks...but even in our game we literally game planned to avoid him.

Sometimes stats don't tell the whole story is all I'm saying.

In his "revenge" game a few weeks ago, his defense gave up 40 to an offense without Lamb. Good player? Sure. Difference maker? Absolutely not. He's a one trick pony and doesn't do that consistently enough to be worth his salary. Our front office got this one right letting him go. I've been on that train for a few years before it happened, to see what you could get for him.

Now the question will be what will the draft picks turn into but even beyond that, no way you could tie up that percentage of your money into 3 players.

Jerrah is appealing his fine. I wonder what machinations his addled brain went through to justify this action.

Looks to me like he has dementia. Much like his buddy in Washington.

I've wondered how the Jones family and the league would handle it if he does end up with dementia.  He will never willingly give up control.  Are there mechanisms in place that could remove him from being the Team President?

It appears to be true.  ESPN stats show Parsons with 4 solo tackles and 4 assisted tackles.

Chase has 5 solo tackles.

Dallas defense gets worked all the way down the field but stiffens up late to force a FG luckily.

And the Cowboys need to jettison that fucking first play of the game shit they always do where Dak PA roll outs to throw to the TE that’s always just for 2-3 yards.

he was off on the 3rd down throws too.

Pickens is such a good add…

2nd and goal was blown up.  Williams threw a block but didn’t go out to catch.

avoided grounding call.

Dak did the lords work to get out of a sack there but flournoy couldn’t hold on there.  Nice try.

Why decline the penalty you’re just going to play 8 yards off on 3rd and 7 and go backwards at the snap.

nice pick off the WRs hands. Hate that those count against the QB.  Always lets stats watchers say “see he had a pick!” Without watching the game.

Posted

Why the fuck did the TE go backwards after the catch?

God I hope they go for it.  Usually would say take the points but Dak and Dallas is effeicient, but wan to put  this team away early. They’ve shown they can score when needed.

Posted

I understand everyone thinks they can throw all I’ve Dallas…but a team line the jets and panthers?  They should never pass.

They have no resistance to that or screens.

id Dallas doesn’t change their fucking scheme and maybe go get a player or two they’re just fucked.  In a very winnable division.

And just like that the fucking panthers are tied with us.

offense, once again, will have to be damn beer perfect to win a road game against and overmatched OL and QB.

Bryce is NOT good. He regressed this year over the end of last year. And of course he’s a pro bowler agaisnt us.

Saved by the flag.

Dak made a heck of a play to move up in the pocket there.

Can’t have penalties on first down.

His snap usage in Green Bay is down quite a bit from his pre-injury Cowboys days. They seem to be limiting how they use him far more than Dallas did. Could still be the back issue.

Man I don’t know that I go for it there with our kicker…

But I think there scared of this defense that bad. 😂

and pickens is a fucking monster.

Fuck they’re going to give up points here maybe. TD and still get the ball back after half.  We gotta hope for a Turnover or something.

Every fucking week I know the defend sucks.

Then I watch’s bs realize it’s even WORSE than I remember.  You can’t get any pressure on this QB?  They’re missing multiple starters.

and rico fucking dowdle is gutting us.

its fucking front off malpractice to let this shit continue.  Use those pics and get the LB and DB and maybe even an edge that you desperately need.

tell your dumb as fuck stuck in his own self important DC to stop running zone with a bunch of primarily man players.
