That kid throws right-handed and kicks left-footed.  I don't know if I've ever seen that in my life.

Fud Jr plays soccer left footed, dribbles a basketball left handed, shoots right handed, does everything baseball RH

I am similar... throw left handed, bat left handed, kick left footed, play golf right handed, shoot/bowl right handed, write right handed.

no shit

this morning's game was the only competitive one so far and that was through offensive futility

Newton / Wall was a one point game and came down to a perfect onside kick that just couldn’t be recovered.  How much more competitive can you get?

The 1 pointer last night wasn't competitive?

You drive a hard bargain, Sir

West Orange enrollment is 659 kids and they are D4. Seems kind of small right?

4aDII range is 545 to 956 in the 2024-25 alignment.

WOS is 656.

Carthage is 788.

Not the most exciting games today, but I respect the defenses of all 3 winning teams.

@Iceman asked yesterday what could be done to make for better match ups given the number of schools and huge distances across this state.  I got to thinking and maybe a hybrid of the old way where finals were at different neutral sites and the current way could be something to consider.

Once you get to the semifinals, seed the remaining four teams in each class-division 1-4.  One plays four, two plays three as usual and find a spot half ass in between the schools for the semi final games.  All the final games still played at Jerry World.

It probably wouldn't change a whole lot of match ups, but maybe just enough to make things more even in the finals instead of the semi finals.

Just a quick look at the 2x 6A divisions would have given something like Allen vs Lake Travis and Duncanville vs North Shore in one set of semi-finals.  Div II would have had South Lake Carroll vs Vandergrift and DeSoto vs C.E. King for their semis.

Assuming chalk, then Jerry World would have Allen vs Duncanville for the state championship instead of the 800th rendition of Duncanville vs. North Shore.  Div II would have had SLC vs DeSoto in the finals.  Imagine that semi final game was in Jerry World instead of Mansfield.

I like it that there is zero subjectivity in the matchups.  Keeps it clean and whole.  No manipulation.  Everyone knows how the slate works before the season even start.  There is no perfect set-up, but I dare say this one is fair(est.)

That's probably why the powers that be will not be able to resist fucking it up.

I just think by the time you get to the semis any "upstarts" have been weeded out so subjectivity isn't going to be a big deal by that point.  But yeah, you gotta stick with the current format until the Region Finals.

Seeding in high school is bullshit though.  There should not be any subjective rating or ranking in play at all.  There are even more non-commonalities across teams than there are in college, and that process whips the sports' ass at the FBS level.

I'm admittedly traditional AF, so there's that piece too.  I just don't trust "football minds" to be unbiased.  There's far too much proof otherwise.

Fine.  Let's keep having some of the best match ups in the semi finals when no one other than fans of the teams and the real hardcore followers can see them instead of trying to have them on the biggest stage with the most eyeballs available.

I probably wouldn't make this change for anything other than 5A and 6A any way.  Leave 4A and down as they are.

I would disagree that 6A doesn't have the best matchups possible today.  IDGAF about Allen or any other teams' pedigrees.  This is how the slate played out, and those are some badass matchups.  That doesn't mean if a game doesn't end up 38-35, that it wasn't a great game.  I disagree with a lot of that mindset coming from this thread in the past few days too.

Hell, before long we start slating the games just for TV audiences.  Fuck that.  The current system is great.  Odd years, D-1 plays first.  Even years, D II goes first.  It works. Everyone knows what to expect.

And finals are always in Dallas?

They haven't been in Dallas for a long time.

Hey, I was cool with the rotation of the games, but the powers that be didn't like the difference in attendance in San Antonio & H-Town.  Personally, I favor the old neutral site games; but that ain't happening again in our lifetimes unless Jerrah changes his positive business relationship with UIL or another foundational piece in the current setup changes too.  I also feel it favors some spoiled ass DFW fans who never have to travel for games; but the teams/ towns that travel really DGAF any more.  They have adjusted.  the big city fans will never know what that is like.

I went to the games last year and enjoyed it.   I like it for the athletes.  They want to play there, and that payoff is enough for me.  Having the games at JerryWorld is still special.  and for those of us who can't get there, Victory+ is kind enough to share the broadcast for free.  It's a great 4 days of football.

I've got you beat. I write right/left, swing a bat right/left, swing a golf club left only, bowl a hook left but a straight shot right, throw left, kick right, shoot a bow right/left, shoot gun right, eat with spoon right but with a fork left.
