He can hire someone who can handle nil and portal just like NFL teams have a GM.

It doesn’t work like that dude. You have to be fully committed to the job even if you have people that handle that aspect. He’s also an asshole so good luck.

Surprised Gary  Patterson  not being discussed for jobs.

Why?  Who would hire a control freak coach who hates the portal, hates paying players, and doesn't have a great track record of hires or developing staff?

Watch for Eric Morris’ name to be tied to Auburn.  And I’ll say it, I think whoever makes the move to hire Morris will be getting a HR hire, especially if he can align himself with a quality DC.

Im also pretty certain Drinkwitz’s dream job is Auburn, which is why you haven’t seen an extension for him yet at Mizzou.  I think Mizzou wants to keep him, but he’s smartly playing the field and this is the one he was waiting on.

Gary has baggage and your suggestion that Gary would even think about giving ANY control in HIS program to anyone else shows you really don't know much about Gary.

I agree with you. He built IW and UNT.

Hiring someone to manage NIL and portal does not mean you give control. But hey whatever you say. Never said I knew him intimately. Guess you strummed his guitar.

He has rebuilt UNT every year he has been there.  Plus, his history with QB development would be something I would think AD’s would be highly interested in.

Here is my list of movers this coaching carosuel...

Jason Candle, Toledo - He has topped out in Toledo and has proven to be able to build a sustainable program and develop NFL talent.

Eric Morris, UNT - Offensive-driven Air Raid coach with a heavy dose of run. An added benefit would be that he could bring his own super-talented FR QB and RB combo with him.

Jon Sumrall, Tulane - Been rumored to be tied to a variety of jobs already..

Jason Eck, New Mexico - Has UNM bowl eligible and is know as a OL guy that is probably a real option for many of the potential mid level Midwest jobs

I'm assuming Washington will be open at the end of the year because I've heard Fisch wants to move on.

If I were running a search committee, my #1 criteria would be I want someone with NIL/recruiting experience.

Obvious you don't know Gary very well as you said giving anyone ANY authority or decision making in HIS program doesn't equate in Gary's mind that is the same as giving control.

Guitar no, part of some fund raising projects, yes and more importantly is conversations with a former room mate who was a regent and still has a great deal of influence in the athletic department.

The biggest question on coaches making that big jump is can they deal with all the things outside the actual  running the program and developing the players.

I think Morris is a very interesting name, would Auburn be patient and would they let him do things his way?

I don't trust hot G5 Texas schools.  It's too easy to get and ride a talent advantage.

Yeah really getting a talent advantage with a guy who was never a starting QB

Curious, who was the quarterback at Vandergrift?

Sounds like a situation similar to Manvel a few years back when they had King and the quarterback who signed with Florida.

It's pretty much a way of life for Auburn fans, at least that's what my friend who is an Auburn fan keeps claiming.

This is correct. You need to enjoy pain for the last 15 years or so. Every few years they come thru and you have hope then someone pounds your big toe with a hammer again

Freeze/AU looked like a hot mess last night, that game set CFB back 42 years.

Not quite. The famous Auburn/ Miss State  3-2 game from 2008 set it back to around 1900

He’s taken a step back

All because he looked good throwing to open WR's when he was 16.  Mind bottling, really.

Yet we see the same thing again and again and again with the rankings of quarterback prospects based upon their performance in 7-on-7, quarterback camps, etc...

All from their sophomore year in HS, too.

Maryland is a P5 job, sort of. No clue what they are thinking jumping in this cycle.

The turtles probably felt like they couldn't possibly do worse? That's all I've got.

Somebody in the B1G should get smart and hire Pat Fitzgerald. NU railroaded him out over player hazing, which was foolish, IMO.

Lower-tier P4 teams have to be thinking they'll take a retread if they're jumping in this year. I don't see any other logic. And there will be plenty available.

Franklin hasn’t signed at VaTech yet. He’d be a great choice there or at Maryland.

Miami took a qb that likes to throw critical interceptions and thinks that he won't do that elsewhere?
