Look at these teams strength of schedules..

Then the issue is the effect of SOS needs to be codified so teams know it's worth the risk.

Just stick it into a computer.  That would make less people happy.

(I think there should be automatic bids for a set number of conferences and the at large based heavily on SOS)

Totally disagree. OU has looked like steamed over dogshit all season with a drunk offense that can barely score and they have seen no penalty for "style" points.

You can’t have both a loss to Florida plus 2 OT shit wins plus a Vandy comeback that drops you in rankings every week and expect 1 win to bring you to the playoffs. You have to stay close and at minimum kick the shit out of shitty teams. OU lost to Texas and looked liked shit but not OT Kentucky and miss state bad. That shit all together matters

To be fair, OU went 10-2 and had a top 10 SOS. Their win over Bama is easily one of the best wins this year. The real team who should be getting penalized for a weak SOS is aggy. They didn’t beat a single SEC team with a winning conference record.

Fuck outta here with this. We got absolutely ref fucked for 3 quarters and were only down 4 at the start of the 4th. We got outcoached so badly the first two drives of the 4th quarter that we lost it right then and there. Dont act like our guys quit. They fought hard all night. Jumping offsides on 4th down and a fuck up on special teams cost us that game.

Clemson won the ACC lol

Ahhh.. that's right. Well, automatic qualified for winning ACC? Why am I defending Clemson.

They have a totally different standard and it’s annoying af.

Need VaTech to beat UVA also for that to happen. Just doesn’t seem like it’s gonna happen

yes, so lets try to maximize that.  no one cares about SOS.  and no one knows how to calculate SOR.  my guess is it is just bullshit to justify ranking by losses.

I have a question for you. What would happen if BYU wins and Bama beats UGA in the SEC title game. Who gets bumped from the playoffs. ND or OU?

Most may not agree and I’ve been drinking but loss Texas with non OT ass kickings vs Kentucky and miss state with a non comeback against Vandy looks really good. The 3 losses plus those close games can’t overcome the great wins

A win is a win.  Aggie was parked at #3 before last night after a meh performance against Utah St, playing only the bottom half of SEC, beating hapless Auburn 16-10 at home, squeaking by 2-10 pig 45-42, having to come back from a 30-3 halftime deficit at home to squeak by MSU by 1, and their only win against a ranked team being by 1 over dome because they botched a PAT.   But they won all those games so they are ranked #3.

loss column is the #1 factor for the committee

They would be in the AP top 10 and CFP top 10.

Their 2 losses are to paper tiger Miami and aggie. Top wins are soon to be unranked Pitt, Navy and a team losing UCLA at half in USC.

Those 2 losses are doing 100% of the lifting for ND. Losses to paper tigers are the strength of the ND schedule.

Tech gamed the system. Hocutt took a look at the league and CFP rules and said there’s no penalty for not scheduling a P4 team so he didn’t and they’ve rolled to 11-1. They ran into 1 team with sort of equal NFL talent in Arizona State and of course lost.

They’re going to get smoked in the CFP, but they might not care. A Big 12 title and  a CFP appearance is something they’ll talk about for a generation.

I’m fine with 12, but everybody needs to play by the same rules. My proposal : to be CFP eligible, a team must schedule at least 1 P4 opponent and play a 9 game conference schedule.

It’s still hard to understand Aggie SoS, their in conference wins are against teams with a combined record of 12-43. Dome is carrying a lot of weight I guess, and us of course.  UTSA, Utah St and 1-11 Sanford sure don’t move the needle

Well you fix it by first taking non-P4 games off the plate as a measurement in W/L record, SOS and SOR. Kicking G5 out of the playoffs. Forcing ND into a conference. Require a 9 game conference schedule. Then move to 16 teams. I mean there is another college football division that has been doing this a while. It's not rocket science. Other things can be added or subtracted but that resolves basically all of the current issues.

5 auto bids for the BIG and the SEC. 2 auto bids for the BIG 12 and ACC. 2 at large bids after that.

I'd probably say 4, 4, 1, 1 but we're getting into minutiae. Fix the big picture and let's solve for the rest.

I am a firm believer we only need Bama to fall. And if I had to hand pick the one upset that would help us the most it would be that one. Because it strengthens our wins because OU stays a CFP team. If Auburn pulls it out, we will be in (provided BYU doesnt F us over).

Powers that be at Belmont need to know the rules and how they are judged and play to those rules.  That's it.  It's simple.

If the top prize is the win a Championship, then do what it takes to put yourself in the best position to do that.  If we don't get in this year, which I don't think we will, then make adjustments in your schedule so you give yourself the best chances here forward.

I've been watching CFB almost my entire life and it's still the same bullshit.  There aren't any real "rules" and they always find a way to have some star chamber bullshit, which leads to endless arguments and stupidity.  Way back in the day it was dumbass sports writers that decided who was the Nat'l Champ.  Then it was the BCS which used inscrutable computer algorithms combined with dumbass AP voters and coaches' votes.  And now it's a committee that makes decisions while having some arbitrary rules like conference champs get in, G5 gets a spot, etc.

Make divisions in these conferences.  Make the teams play everyone in their division each year just like the NFL.  You win your division you get in.  Cut back on nonsense OOC games if that's what it takes to have time for a longer playoff.  This is why the NFL has become as popular as it is.  It's basically completely fair across the board.  Every team gets the same salary cap.  Every team gets the same amount of draft picks.  Every team has to play the teams in their division.  The sorry ass NFC South will send some team with 8-10 wins to the playoffs, while teams with more wins in other divisions will get left out.  But the rules are the rules, everyone knows they're the rules, and so no one complains about it.  But nah, that's all too smart for CFB.  Instead of a logical system we have teams literally playing no one of note all year, still finding a way to drop a game or two, and then going "TA-DAH!" we get in because we haven't lost 3 times!  We have to argue about SOS, SOR, ranked wins, bad losses, and whatever else because it's all a clown show.

I mean it’s a nice wish list, but I think 9 conference games + 1 P4 OOC could be turned around in an offseason. The ACC and SEC will play 9 conference games in 2026. Light a Fire under Tech and Indiana. Tech doesn’t play a P4 OOC game until 2028, MS State. Indiana won’t play a “P4” OOC game until 2026, Notre Dame.

The NFL is popular because it has world class marketing and first mover advantage.  I’d offer college football as the counterpoint that fairness doesn’t create additional fans; nobody gives a shit about that, most just want their team to win.

Yep. I’d call that game iffy. Both schools are looking for the easiest schedule possible.

Notre Dame has a super clean exit so they’ll probably initiate. Just schedule a service academy instead. Nobody would say shit about it.

Why stair step the fucking fix. Put the rules in place, move to 16 teams and give a P4 rule grace period of 2-3 years to alter schedules. Indiana can play Tech for example. If you make it a broad rule the schools with lots of them will be searching for similar schools with lots of them.

Fix the shit. I get your mindset but this same shit will come up again. We know how to fix it, so fucking fix it now. Not steps every year for a decade.

Wins and fairness don't necessarily bring fans in college like they will in the NFL. Case in point, UNT stadium was half empty in their best season ever just yesterday.
