No. We still have at least 2 weeks more of this thread and then probably multiple weeks of whining about the real reason we were left out.

nobody cares about how many wins you “struggled” to get, it’s literally just “do you have two losses or three?”. a two-loss texas team with two losses in the sec gets into the playoff, end of discussion. we could have played texas state week one and won 14-13 in OT and we’d still be in playoff with that “2” on the moss column. struggling to beat a shitty team would have done us better than going toe to toe with the best team in america.

Yep only thing that matters is the loss column.

Seriously. There’s a max of 5 teams with a chance to actually win this thing this year.

Yes, we should also change the basketball tournament to the 3-5 teams that actually have a chance to win it each year as well.

The CFP result is what it is. But all things considered, 9-3 with a terrible OL and secondary and inconsistent Arch in a transition year with this schedule is damn solid. If not for Ryan Niblett's late game heroics at UK and MSU, the season could have gone sideways.

With a good offseason in the portal (rebuilt OL, new RB, TE, and CB) and a more mature Arch we should be vastly improved.

i don’t know what is hard to understand about this: there are going to be 5+ teams in the playoff who don’t have as many top 10-15 wins as we do, and whose two losses are no better than/worse than our road losses to florida and georgia. the difference? those teams didn’t schedule tosu week one. that’s it. they scheduled a homecoming opponent, beat them, and now they’re in and we’re out. shit has nothing to do with florida.

Just do what Tech did this year where they played 0 P4 teams OOC. The committee has clearly chosen to reward them for doing so. We got absolutely nothing out of playing that Ohio State game.

If you don’t make the playoff the season is a fucking failure. Making the playoff is the minimum standard

Sec rule requires a p4 OOC opponent.

Playoff format isn't the issue with college football.  Lack of standardized scheduling and a growing unbalance between conferences are the main issues.

Is the CFP any better than the BCS was?  Still no one schedules good OOC matchups, selection process still largely ignores body of work and scheduling, teams with a shot to win are left out in favor of "feelsgood" teams.

They need to remove it then as long as the Big 12 can get away with not playing such games.

Each iteration of championship format is better than previous IMO. BCS is better than before BCS, 4 team better than BCS, 12 team better than 4 team, and I think 16 team when byes are no longer part of the equation will be better than 12 team

Exactly, and I really don't understand why people are still not understanding it after it's been explained to them 174 different ways all weekend.

We lost 2 conference games.  *It really doesn't matter which two*.  It's okay to go 6-2 against the SEC, even if you should have gone 7-1.  If we'd played Rice instead of Ohio State, we'd be comfortably in.

God dammit, people.  This is not difficult.

I think the selection process is better.  4 was better than 12.  6 or 8 is probably the sweet spot.

Bowl games are undoubtedly worse and probably dying, which is honestly worse than the conference stacking.

It’s really an amazing combination of self loathing, obtuseness, arrogance (2005 Texas is our standard and should happen every year even though that’s a once in a generation type team) and general dipshittery.

That is literally how Bama fans, Georgia fans, etc look at their teams. That is fan standards and expectations. Meanwhile our general fan base expectation is happy to be there type.

Maybe it's just you and the other uber-fans. I doubt we'd hear any complaining now if UT were included in a 16-team playoff.

It should be 24, just like the FCS playoff. There is no reason not to do it, we have just pretended that CFB postseason is some kind of special unicorn that needs to have some kind of unique and innovative system in place when in reality it should just be treated like every other sport on the planet.

The argument for Texas to get in is compelling, and the playoff committee should get a lot of shit for ending up just picking teams by W/L record. They are not going to follow the criteria they added to put a team like Texas in.

Personally, I don't think we deserve it but understand why fans are pissed. Part of me feels like Sark needs to learn a lesson from how he handled this season. It was a disaster, and a playoff bid might give him an excuse to run it back with same bullshit.

I also hope CDC doesn't overreact and get rid of our future big OOC games. My guess is they move to 16 teams next year to makes sure a 3 loss blueblood makes it in going forward.

Mr Hank Kindsley, can you tell me when CFB has not been about W/L record?

Future big OOC games should 100% go away, schedule Baylor, Colorado, NC St, etc to be in line with SEC rule. You are going to get to play those Big OOC games in the playoff anyway so who gives a shit...it's better to play them in playoff than OOC.

A few thoughts

1.  I'm sure the 10 million words that are going to be written in this thread after this post arguing the "punished for tOSU game/don't lose to Florida" points will really make a difference but Surly gonna Surly 🙄

2.  Do any of you all really believe this team has what it takes to make it to the final 4 this year, much less win it all?  If you don't, then...

3.  Maybe, just maybe, getting left out while still getting the practices, etc that come with a bowl game will relight the fire under this team and particularly the coaching staff's ass to do what needs to be done to get this to a position where it truly is a contender going into 2026.   I know silver linings and all, but we ain't winning it all this year anyway, so I would almost rather have the motivational sting of getting "snubbed" driving this program.  Let programs like Tech and aggy celebrate making the playoffs and then doing absolutely nothing in them.  Unless you win it all, or at least make the national semifinals, nobody is going to remember shit about it in a few years (real quick, tell me who were the first 8 outs in the 2022 NFL playoffs)

No. People will still hold out hope that Bama losing to Georgia will help us. I actually think the committee will place us around 11 or 12 just to fuck with everyone. Then we drop for "reasons" like not having an additional data point.

When FSU got left out. When the big 12 put two losers into the championship game, and cfb sent that loser to play for a title.
When nick saban lost.

Again, tell me when in CFB history W/L wasn't the key metric? 3 losses was never getting in over 2. Proven just last year.

until there is schedule parity or until the committee adds concrete factors to balance in light of schedule disparity this problem will never go away.  Indiana, BYU, even Texas A&M and then Texas. These schedules are so wildly different, you cannot use record as the primary weight for playoff eligibility and expect to get the top 10 teams in (plus G5 and the ACC dregs). It's an impossibility.

This is a dumb point all around that people will try to make. It doesn't matter if we believe we can make the final 4 this year. Having the opportunity to do so is the most important part.

Who is it you think doesn't understand this?  We should be good enough to go 10-2 at least against the schedule we had this year.  I'm not interested in gaming the schedule to make our path easier.  Many of you disagree.

I mean I would not say it is final final, but it does open a really big door, Bama is guarded by the cycle of Georgia > Texas > OU > Bama > Georgia, but if they lose the CCG they lost that chain it would be a clean line of Texas > Bama based on big opponents.

Well it’s hard to understand bc you are wrong. We are not being punished for losing to the #1 team in the country at home by a possession. If we take care of our business in Gainesville this is all a moot point and we still love the week 1 game. Stop being a pussy and play the big games. People want to see the fucking university of Texas play these big games. Me included.

This is what Sankey needs to push for. Everyone should have the same scheduling. We're now there on conference games. It needs to be the same for P4 requirements in OOC. Indiana should not be allowed 3 gimmies.

Ask TCU how the "opportunity" to win a national championship that they didn't win worked out for them.  Or Clemson how the "opportunity" to be in the playoffs last year worked out for them?  Take a longer view dude...but then look who I am talking to, one of the most emotional reactionary posters on this site.

Good for them.  None are a threat to win the championship and probably none of them will win a playoff game except against each other.
