I’m a CFB degenerate. I set up 3 TV’s every Saturday and watch games for 12 hours and somehow they came up with a playoff that leaves me completely disinterested in 3/4 of the first round games.

Same.  My wife made me an office and tv watching room with 4 55 inch TV’s to watch at the same time. I don’t know that I will watch the first round other than to root against aggy.

the bullshit part is their system to try and keep everyone interested

they put ND above Miami even with Miami beating them early in the season (and really two losses in a row should get you tossed from contention anyway even to start the season and especially with no CCG to win).......they do that because "well ND is always in the hunt"

but what they did not expect was for the ACC to be a steaming pile of shit that was about to have no team in and that would really bitch and cry about that.....all the more so with their "affiliate" ND getting in......but even in the next to last rankings ND was still above Miami......and well "tHe U iS bAcK" (yes this year forilz riltalk they are bacc!) so then they are looking at the ACC with no team in and the AAC and CUSA with a team in and suddenly somehow Alabama does not fall even one spot after getting thumped in the CCG, BYU falls two spots (even though all we know is that one team can beat them two times while three teams can beat Alabama)......and Miami jumps two posts for doing jack shit while ND falls one spot for doing jack shit

that is just total bullshit and back room fuckery

BYU fell 1 spot. But other than that I agree. The committee switching the teams at the last second was bullshit. Shouldve been switched last week.

Herbstreet said so much so yesterday.     My response to Hebie is to not show up then.

FCS and down to D3 has a selection committee that ranks teams by regions and then releases the results weekly by press release.   It works for them.

you are right it was Miami jumping two spots.....and I know "fuck BYU (anal only please thank you)" and "fuck the Big 12" will be said around here, but really BYU should have stayed in the same place just like Alabama......because they have lost to a single team and once in the CCG while Alabama has lost to 3 teams and their CCG loss was just as bad as BYUs was.....but they stayed right where they are.......and they looked like shit

What I am about to type is a mix of views I’ve held for a long time mixed with a brand new wildly different view as a result of this year’s playoff.

OP is completely wrong about CFP ruining college football. We had a few cheating teams dominating college football for the last 15 years. That was way way worse than now. It sucked.

The current money situation with a lack of structure is what is making it a mess. The CFP is the best, albeit incomplete, attempt at delivering a reasonably fair, entertaining product. However, it needs one more tweak, a tweak I was completely against until now.

The playoff needs to expand to 13-16 teams from the current 12. Texas has shown that a team with 3 losses on a tough schedule is capable of winning it all. And so a team like Texas should get in. A 14 team playoff should address every scenario of teams that deserve a shot.

It doesn’t fix the money issue, but that is separate from the actual playoff.

I get you and Wilcox confused.  I’m sure you understand.

But thanks once again for demonstrating the delusion amongst fans of “it’s not our fault we lost”.  It’s luck. Or the refs.  Or a conspiracy.  Or ESPN willed it so. Or Herbie’s dog peed on the ball.  Whatever.

Huh? What are you talking about, dude? No one "willed" anything. It's CFB, anyone can win who has the same talent, and occasionally teams with lesser talent with better coaching can overcome that. All I said was we didn't get our asses kicked, like you surmised. I posted stats from the actual game. I don't understand your delusion, bro.

If you think Ohio State kicked our asses, sure, OK. That doesn't ruin my day. As a matter of fact, it's better than the stupid echo chamber people get locked into. I don't know what your deal is with me since Wilcox amd I are two completely different types of posters. It's weird, man.

CFP didn't ruin college football.  It's not perfect, but the last two seasons have been exciting to the last game.  In the BCS and 4 team era, it was just maybe 1 or 2 teams arguing about if they should be in, and we all complained about seasons like 2003 when an undefeated major conference team got left out.  By the mid teens, you had situations like we had in 2019.  A break out season (at least we thought), but not good enough for the playoff, so we go to the Sugar Bowl!  We're excited.... and a large chunk of both our and Georgia's starters opt out.  For the FUCKING SUGAR BOWL!

Yeah, teams and players are opting out of bowl games still, but 12 teams are going in full force into the CFP (well maybe 11, not sure how Ole Miss is looking these days). We've had excitement through the season and a lone loss didn't suddenly make your season a failure.  The CFP needs tweaks, but this is a vast improvement overall.

Georgia? Yes. Ohio State? No. Indiana? Yes. Oregon? Maybe.

But only 3 of those teams would make me nervous, and Ohio State ain't one of them. I think they're a very good team, but they aren't on the same level as Georgia or Indiana. One has a stacked roster and just lost to a team full of JMU transfers, while the other is a stacked roster that has a defensive mastermind and full of rabid dogs. They have a winning mindset. That's what's instilled in them. We almost beat OSU with an incompetent OC and OL coach and a DC who had Duane Akina on staff.

Looked like 2 teams on the same level playing last night

Tech isn't making the final lol. Also, fuck that. If Cristobal made it to the NC it would cut off our FL/GA supply for the absolute top recruits like Baxter, Cooper, Ffrench, Justus Terry, Dia Bell, Atkinson, Samari Matthews, Littleton, etc. The last thing I want is Miami to make it to the NC. Tech, I don't care.

Our money is going to stop spending?

Get rid of the selection by committee. Move to 16 team play off. On championship Saturday the top 8 teams of sec and big10 play to put 4 teams in the playoffs each. ACC and Big XII get 4 teams each to play on championship Saturday for two spots from each conference. The final 4 teams are decided by the top 8 teams in a bcs composite ranking playing on championship Saturday for 4 slots.

Every slot is decided on the field. This would basically be a 32 team play off but 75% of the final 16 teams would be in conference teams playing each other.

Touché. I don't know why I keep thinking like the old days where relationships and all that matter anymore? It's stupid af. I mean, there were people who thought we wouldn't get both Atkinson and Cooper since Cooper hadn't even visited before he committed. So yeah, you're correct.i need to get this shit through my head. Relationships are, for the most part, irrelevant. I'm sure they matter, but a bank account doesn't accept "they matter," they accept money, which rules sports now.

I mean, yes? But one was with 2*-3* transfer guys, and if you're struggling against top tier coaching with guys who will be going pro in something other than sports, I don't see them as "even." I see Indiana as superior due to coaching. If they had the same players Ohio State had, they would have skull fucked that tream to the tune of 65-10. So, yes, sort of. I fear Indiana more because Cignetti is elite at coaching, whereas good for Ryan Day for getting his NC last year, but he's such an inferior coach.

The score made it look more even than it really was. I don't think I'm making sense, and I'm trying to figure out a way to where you see what I'm trying to say, rather than what's typed.

Does it make sense that I would rather face Ohio State than Indiana? Because Indiana is just so well-coached. If they get a recruiting boost, watch out.

No it’s not. Nearly half the teams of pro sports make the playoffs while only 9% of CFB teams make the playoffs. Don’t be mad at the sport or format when we didn’t do what we needed to do to be part of it

Man, you nailed this.  For whatever reason I found it really hard to get into almost every game I tried to watch this season.  The endless commercials, lack of quality match ups a lot of the time, shitty fundamentals, taking half an hour to play the last two minutes of a half, etc.  And none of that shit is going to get better.

Do you watch Tuesday night college football games? Wednesday? Do you stay up watching Hawaii until 1am(or at least start watching)? If not then you don’t really love cfb or football in general

I agree, but if these colleges and universities allow said "students" to enroll, what's the difference between them and anyone else? Sports? Most of them are in the portal (most, not all, clearly) because they either got beat out, suck (Malachai Nelson), above average but they just keep getting granted that 11th year, and at 31 they got live it up while they can before they have to be adults applying for some stupid position at their local State Farm.

If the colleges and universities would deny the students, that would clear up a lot of this dysfunction. They would wander off to some place like Arkansas-PB and we would be none the wiser because who gives a shit? If Texas is allowing a kid who has already played at 3 schools to enroll, that's a huge wtf. But most of these dudes getting 8 extra years are irrelevant, while the occasional dumbass like Pavia wants to keep living the dream ans buying the freshmen beer at some sorority party instesd of getting an actual job. But he also knows he has absolutely zero chance of making an NFL roster.

Fuck it. Let's make it 68 teams like the basketball tourney. I'm all for as many games as possible. The last one standing will truly be the national champion.

The FCS bracket has 24 teams.  D2 has 28 teams.  D3 has 40 (?).

It really doesn't make much sense to have the division with the most interest having the fewest playoff games.

Those playoffs work well because the NCAA regulates them and does enforce a bit of equity to keep the divisions afloat. In FCS, every conference with six or more gets an auto-bid (11) and the remaining 13 are at large. Ironically it is the money that makes it possible, the stakes aren’t as high for getting left out and the fans aren’t as insane. They also play fewer OOC games and have real conference champions.

College football boards and talking heads would melt down with a similar format for FBS even though it would really be the way to do a PO that was best for the sport. There is a loud, ESPN driven contingent that strongly believes the game will be better when about 40 teams play in two leagues with players as perpetual free agents. Maybe so, but I will contend that it’s not a sport I recognize as college football.

This.  The game thread went to shit once it became clear Indiana was going to win and acting like it was a total beating.  OSU looked like the better team at 8-9 of 11 positions, but one where Indiana was clearly better was QB.

If OSU hits the field goal and it goes to OT, they likely win because BoJack was tearing Indiana up at that point in the game.

The only way to incentive Texas to play OSU and similar big time OOC matchups in the future is to expand the playoff field where even the best 3 loss teams have a chance to get in the playoff.

Not having an actual playoff ruined college football. It has always been a silly beauty pageant. Weird that high schools and pros can play for championships but institutes that claim to be the highest level of education can't.

The beauty pageant part is so ingrained that now, with a playoff, they still can't find a way to do without the beauty pageant.

There is a three loss team in this year and was last year too.  If the field goes to 24 I GUARANTEE there will be the best 8-4 SEC team bitching about getting bumped.

The worst part about the playoffs is teams with multiple losses, sometimes to the same opponent, huffing like they’re 2003 USC or 2004 Auburn getting left out of the NC shot. We have actually solved that problem.
