Good luck with middle-aged Ivan carrying his rusty weapon and heavy backpack in winter. I’m sure smoking and alcohol withdrawal will go over well in the frozen trenches.

see, this is why most Russian sub captains go to starboard in the bottom half of the hour, we call it a Rusty Ivan.

Ukraine anticipates that the Russian army will lose up to 70,000 more troops in the next 4-5 months, but the Kremlin appears to be “ready for such losses,” Cherniak added.

This latest intelligence assessment comes as senior Ukrainian officials warn that Russia could launch a major offensive from multiple directions in early 2023.

I wonder how this affects plans for Ukraine going on the offensive this month. I assume Ukraine would only go so far to where they can get entrenched before Russia goes on the offensive.

Ukraine's primary tactical victory going forward will be destroying the Russian military's ability to fight.  Russia does not have much in the way of superior tech to take out.  It has more materiel.....but that is being degraded and destroyed.  It's primary asset is....meat.

So, deprive Russia of that asset.  Grind the meat.  All of it.  Kill another 100k.  Another 500k.  Another million.  Continue to grind the meat.  When Russia is throwing babushkas with mops into the battle, then....do what you will.  Launch your offensive, and don't stop till you take Moscow and force unconditional surrender.

The fight her is to attrit the shit out of the Russian military, and Russia is only too happy to oblige.

That Russian military forum is not buying the party line. They are pissed that they are blaming dead soldiers for using cell phones, noting that United States and its satellites are constantly monitoring troop movements, and also pointing out that the locals are not friendly, and are telling the Ukrainians where the mobilized are being housed.

Here are some translations:

It's a new type of war. The accuracy and range of weapons have reached a new level.

Once soldiers fought in columns, then chains appeared, then small groups.

First they fought in colored uniforms, then the color of khaki appeared, then camouflage.

Now the requirements for dispersion and disguise have increased once again.

This is a war of new technologies, and it is hardly possible to win it in the old ways.

A stupid increase in the number of troops will lead to a greater concentration of both people and supplies.

And this will lead to an increase in losses without increasing efficiency.

Once again: linear saturation with quantity will give an increase in losses squared, and the increase in the captured territory will be as it is now.

To win this type of war, you need a breakthrough in the means of intelligence and defeat from a distance.

It is necessary to knock out air defense and launchers, improve reconnaissance and delivery facilities.

To win, you need a weapon of victory.

And the weapons are forged in the rear.

It is felt that this case does not reach the "red line" again. In response, another transformer will be blown up, neither the bridges nor the railway will be touched.

We do not strive to attack - we take care of the fighters, so they die in our barracks. As if you can win the war without decisive attacks. I'm sick of waiting for the "extortion" of the enemy. They won't run out of shells and highmars, never. Because NATO's total military-industrial complex is much larger than ours, it's stupid to hope for its collapse.

And I also found this nugget:

Quote

The first data on losses appeared (TG channel Rybar):

"... The dead confirmed are about 70 people. The analysis of the rubble continues. Estimated irrecoverable losses reach 110 people.

More than 100 wounded people."

And again, a simple question - and again no one will answer for it?

Dmitri Rogozin, former head of ROSKOSMOS and now full time shit head who nearly got killed in Ukraine sent a piece of shrapnel to Macron.  Apparently it was a Caeser howitzer that got him, the letter says that Russia will hold France responsible.

The French should weld this thing onto the barrel of a new Caeser and send it back to Ukraine.

Wrt the reports of how slovenly the Russians are- my Dad was telling a war story from Vietnam. One aspect involved visiting another base, commanded by a colonel that was a real hardass (Dad said his name was Ole (or maybe Ollie) Smith), who had been promoted from enlisted to commissioned officer in Italy during WWII. Anyway, Dad (a Master Sergeant) visits this base and sees a captain and first sergeant policing the grounds (picking up trash, like cigarette butts and gum wrappers), a task usually reserved for privates (as an army brat, I was given the instruction, “Go police the front yard” more times than I care to remember). This would be akin to seeing a senior manager in your office, cleaning a urinal while wearing a dress shirt and tie.

Dad asked his counterpart, “What’s up with that?”

“Colonel wasn’t happy with how clean the base was”.

Just a different perspective on soldiering.

Dearest Dimitri,

It is with our deepest regrets that you did not get to experience the full grandeur of Caesar.   We look forward to you having other opportunities.

Yours Truly,

Macron

better yet, send him the bill for the ordinance
