That’s what I’ve got

Great entertainment when you’re hammered.

I wanted to try the wraparound terrace, but they were all booked by the time I got off my ass and called my host.

I like the idea of a plunge pool, but I think they could have done a hair better on the room design.

Of course this is coming from a perspective of preferring to have a good sitting area to stretch out or when we’re somewhere with friends.

Booked yesterday for my x my 40th bday. My birthday is in March but we are going on June. Staying at the cosmo. Anyone ever stay in the lanai suite? It’s got a private hot tub but the pictures I’ve found doesn’t look great. But cell phone pics suck a lot of times.

The Lanai suite is ok, not worth the price though. The hot tub on the porch is pretty mediocre. The biggest plus is you can walk straight from your porch to the non-party pool which is nice if your on a trip with wife/girlfriend. The one time I stayed there the top loft area where the bed is wouldn’t get that cool (temp wise). I don’t know if it was an AC problem or because the ceilings are so high.

Las Vegas has been chosen as the host city for Super Bowl LVIII in 2024 pending final approval from owners, the Review-Journal has learned, according to sources familiar with the process.

Ok.  So Carbone and Beauty and Essex are now on the list for March.
Stupid ?.  Assuming these places are generally pretty busy, how are y'all reserving a table?  Just calling?  App?

Start with restaurant website and any link they have for online reservation system, sometimes it’s OpenTable. Can always try calling directly as well. Think you can set up alerts for open reservations on OpenTable.

So is the new moon hotel going to block the front or rear of the guitar?

Not sure but the volcano will be gone at Mirage:

Hard Rock International Chief Executive Officer Jim Allen said the faux volcano outside of the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas will be torn down as part of a remodeling of the soon-to-be acquired resort.

Believe I used Open Table, but calling, using concierge also good ideas if you can't find an available time. They are both pretty busy so I'd definitely get on this now if they're booking this far in advance.

Truist Securities analyst Barry Jonas had a few thoughts on the blockbuster sale of The Mirage to Hard Rock International. He scored it a “modest positive” for MGM Resorts International, while Mirage landlord Vici Properties is assured “positives more around Strip tenant diversification and pipeline.” For $1 billion, the Seminole Tribe is going to have a tough row to hoe when it comes to making a substantial ROI on $64 million in cash flow a year ($154 million minus rent). Our speculation is that The Mirage will be a “loss leader” for the Seminoles, at least until they can jazz it up with the Hard Rock brand and new hotel tower, juicing the drawing power of the property. Certain amenities might be in peril but The Beatles: Love by Cirque du Soleil seems a safe bet to stay put, given how it reinforces the new brand identity. No more volcano, though. Consolation prize: Mirage employees—3,500 of them—get to keep their jobs.

Back to Jonas. He estimates MGM will save $100 million it had planned to spend renovating The Mirage and steer the latter’s cash flow to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, courtesy of M Life, “though we believe Mirage has a very loyal property specific player base. Construction at Mirage in a multi-year rebranding to Hard Rock could also be a temporary positive if there is reduced capacity in the market for some time.” However, “the Hard Rock database and brand could be a formidable player in the Vegas market once fully open.” Besides, if you can build on the Strip at all, you can’t do it for $1 billion, so the Seminoles may have gotten off cheaply, difficult though that is to believe.

As S&G readers have rightly noted, the Seminoles will—or at least should—face some tough Nevada Gaming Control Board questioning about their renegade sports-betting operation in Florida and defiance of federal court orders. How can we be sure they’ll play by the rules in Nevada? Hard Rock CEO Jim Allen is going to have to do some fancy tap-dancing when this license application comes up before the NGCB.

Back in the day, Sterling Brunch was the shit.  Last time we went was 2019, and we decided that was our last time. The service was great, but the food quality and champagne offering had declined by then.

Totally agree - we went in 2019 and had decided to stop going as well. It used to be a amazing brunch.

Booking exotic racing adventures for February in Vegas. Anyone done one of those before?

I’ve been to a couple of different places in Vegas. The best place was Dream Racing. https://www.dreamracing.com/ The last time was in October and I drove 5 laps each of the Supra GR, 911 GT3 and the Ferrari F430 GT race car. The only thing that sucked was that the big track was closed for repairs so we had to drive on the smaller track so there wasn’t a long straight away to really open them up. The big track has reopened since then. One of the advantages of doing this is watching all the air power on display flying overhead from nearby Ellis AFB. There are A10, F15, F16, F22 and F35’s flying around. It’s pretty cool.

Another cool thing I’ve done in LV is off-road racing. I’ve done the dune buggy and razor packages. You get air time in both. They are a lot of fun.

BLT has become a pretty big chain over the last few years. Haven't been to the one in Vegas, but I'd guess you're not missing much. And I'm 100% sure you can find better steak places in Vegas.

I had always heard good things about the place but have never stayed at Bally's or made it over to the restaurant.  Like you said, there are 100's of other steak houses in Vegas.

This thread is full of steak recommendations, so if you want to venture away from Bally's, you will find some great places.

My personal favorites, in no particular order: Bavette's, SW, Prime, Delmonico

We went with a large group in July that ordered a lot of every appetizer and we could hardly eat a main dish. Thai shrimp, tuna poke tacos, mini French dip, southern fried chicken sliders, and scallops. 🤤

Awesome. I just made reservations for a business visit in January. This place looks good.

Did you skip the pizza shooters, shrimp poppers and extreme fajitas?

It’s pretty great. Be sure to get a blueberry red bull and vodka when you’re there if you need a little pickmeup. Our waiter at B&E put us onto them. He called it liquid crack. He was right.

Ok.  I know these are basic and stupid questions.  I also know we have a gambling board.  Nevertheless, here goes...

One of the things I'm really looking forward to is gambling at one of the casino sports bars.  I've read as much as I can, so that I don't look like a dumb dick when it's time to place a bet.  Tell me if I'm missing anything.

Let's say I want to bet on a game; money line.  From what I understand, the board/screen will have a game # with the spreads/money lines.  As an example, college bball (I'll be there for the tourney.)

#452  Texas - 450  Prairie View +300

So, in order to bet Texas, I'd say, "Game 452.  Texas" and hand the guy/girl an amount.  Is this correct?

I know how the payouts work.  I've just never actually placed a bet, other than a parlay I used to do with a bookie back in Knoxville.

The book guys are actually pretty helpful and understanding as long as it's not during a crush of a big event.  It's not like the soup nazi.  You're generally correct, but it's fine to confirm the amounts.  E.g., I want Texas, #452, bet 450 to win 100, right?  And if you're shitfaced...or bad at math...they will correct you if you're wrong.  Texas always gets a lot of action, so they don't even need the #, but it's good to tell them that.

Also, if you want a big laugh, ask them if you can place a bet using a credit card.

Like Shaka said above, just tell them it’s your first time placing a bet and they are usually very helpful. If you want to shop around for best odds, just in case there is a difference of half or full point at different casinos, check out Vegas insider dot com for the game you want to bet. Keep in mind all the Caesars properties should have the same line and also all the MGM properties as well, but you might find a slightly better line and just have to walk to a different place to make your bet.

Also, smaller hotels and casinos on or near the strip will usually have a betting kiosk and typically run by William Hill (now owned by Caesars) and they are staffed with humans during regular business hours.

Sports betting is super fun. Enjoy. And don’t forget to yell at the big screens when something goes your way, it’s all part of the experience.

I'll add that the Caesar's sports book is my favorite for watching games, especially if you pay for a reserved seat. But the counter guys are collectively pretty assholeish.

Caesar's sports books has a newish app that they are pushing. It makes gambling a bit easier, and they are (or were) giving away some bonuses for signing up for the app and the service. You have to load cash in the app in person, and you have to collect your payout in person, but the rest of it is pretty easy. It is nice to be sitting in a restaurant watching a game and drop a few dollars on a bet without having to find a window.

Also @Knoxtnhorn, you can fill out cards for your bets and just hand the guys at the window your cards. I like taking a stack of cards to the bar and sitting there drinking for hours while I make stupid parlay bets.
