I haven't watched or read anything about the admiral, but I've been seeing concerns about the whole "war powers" thing and the administration trying to tie it to 9/11 and people saying "nah".

The whole conflict between the Article II CIC power and the Article I declare war power is pretty insane.  A major flaw in the Constitution.

Congress doesn't want the political baggage associated with declaring war for every little (and not so little conflict) and so is happy to have POTUS holding the bag for the Vietnams, Iraqs, and Afghanistans.  But they don't want to be judged harshly by history, either.

So, you get an Authorization for Use of Military Force, the last of which was this one https://www.congress.gov/107/plaws/publ40/PLAW-107publ40.pdf

That the President is authorized to use all necessary and appropriate force against those nations, organizations, or persons he determines planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such organizations or persons, in order to prevent any future acts of international terrorism against the United States by such nations, organizations or persons.

They have been trying to crowbar everything subsequent to 9/11 into that.  It's laughable at this point.

Fun times. Just declare the Monroe Doctrine already.

The U.S. flew Air Force B-1 bombers near Venezuela on Thursday, stepping up pressure on President Nicolás Maduro only days after other American warplanes carried out an “attack demonstration” near the South American country.

Two B-1 Lancers took off from Dyess Air Force Base in Texas on Thursday and flew near Venezuela, though they remained in international airspace, according to a U.S. official and flight tracking data.

The B-1 can fly at supersonic speeds and carry 75,000 lbs. of bombs, more than other U.S. bombers. They can also conduct maritime surveillance. The aircraft haven’t been moved to bases in the region, as they have the range to reach anywhere in the Caribbean from the U.S., according to a defense official.

The Venezuelans actually have some relatively modern Russian anti-ship missiles on their newish Su-30s.  If we invade - it sounds like we are planning to, there's no reason for Maduro to hold back, since he knows he's going to end up dead or in a US prison. Trump is giving off those vibes, and we saw how much he enjoyed having that Iranian general killed in Iraq.

I'm worried a bit that we'll get an HMS Sheffield or SS Atlantic Conveyor.

They do. But how many? Those are prime tomahawk targets. Same with Air Defence. But we have seen in 3 countries supplied by Russia their shit is not that good. 4 if you count Iraq.

My question is what is the goal? I think it is remove Maduro and take Maracaibo. It is not narcotics. That is just the excuse.

Yep, this is not about narcotics. Otherwise, we would have invaded Mexico long ago.

Spoilers: trump wants to kill brown people, but only ones that makes it look like a flex and we already don't do shit with so he can scare others into submission.

Reporter: Why not just ask for a declaration of war?

Trump: I think we're just going to kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. Okay? We're going to kill them. You know, they're going to be, like, dead. Okay?

During a roundtable earlier at the White House regarding the Cartels, President Donald J. Trump confusingly denied that today’s flight by a pair of B-1B “Lancer” Long-Range Heavy Bombers near Venezuela took place, despite them appearing clearly several times on Flightradar24, including at one point less than 50 miles off the coast of Venezuela, with Trump stating when asked about the flight, “No, it’s not accurate. No, it’s false, but we’re not happy with Venezuela for a lot of reasons.”

He lives to lie.

In a follow-up remark, Trump stated that FlightRadar24 "is frequently wrong, look at all of those idiots who bought the Saban-to-Texas rumors based on a couple of flimsy plane flights."

Guess we don't need bases in the region.

Pentagon Orders Aircraft Carrier to the Caribbean

WASHINGTON—The Pentagon said it is sending the Navy’s most advanced aircraft carrier to the Caribbean in a major escalation of the Trump administration’s military campaign to target drug smugglers and threaten governments in Latin America.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier, which is currently deployed in the Mediterranean, to the Caribbean, bringing dozens more fighter and surveillance aircraft, along with other Navy warships that accompany a carrier, officials said.

Cover to creat a shorter lead time when he needs to pull those forces in for the 26 midterms and bomb blue cities to quell the “unrest.”.

He’s not getting the effects he wanted with putting soldiers in American streets, so now we move on to the next distraction from the Epstein files.  Now we might bomb cocaine facilities and drug trafficking routes.

They need to add the Ford Carrier group. It carries a bit of power.

November 30 bumped to 44%

December 31 bumped to 59%

I’m assuming that accounts for the Ford.

As a buddy in the 3rd ID told me. We don't move all this shit somewhere for nothing. He was sitting in Kuwait.

They've definitely moved some Marine assets into place so it's moving beyond sinking speed boats, however if you go out and see what the analysts are talking about, Venezuela is actually a tough nut to crack, thanks to a mountain range necessitating that you make a helicopter assault and using helicopters to supply everything.  That's not going to be good when they know you're coming.  Dudes hiding in the jungle with even light machine guns can fuck up large formations.  It's just not Grenada or even Panama.

Unfortunately, Epstein wrote a lot of stuff down.  Plus, replacing Maduro with somebody friendly to the US falls in line with Project 2025.

You know I spent a lot of time working in that region. It is hard as fuck. Forget the mountains. The cities. Look at Caracas. It is a collection of hills. Sure you can take the port, but Hummers ain't going up those streets.

I can see the plan, but full on invasion will be nasty. And then what?

Take Maracaibo, hold it, that you can do.

How about we do something like this with idk the country below us that’s cartels cause a lot of our crime actually….  Always blows my mind when politicians preach about the war on drugs but do nothing to the Mexican cartels ever except arrest a kingpin when the cartels all decide he’s more of a threat than an asset to them.

How about we don’t and we start being realistic about our capabilities? The war on drugs has literally been going on as long as I’ve been alive. Drugs won. Or most charitably, the mechanisms we have tried have failed.

We don’t need Iraq II as a neighbor. It’s like everyone got amnesia and forgot about all our nation building attempts post 1954. Hint: They’ve been pretty disastrous.

Invading a country with lots of jungles because we don't like their leftist government and want to install a puppet right wing government?  What could possibly go wrong?

On the bright side, gave us some pretty good music.

I mean....there's always a silver lining, right?  Sure, it's a mountain of shit, but find that one shiny thing so we can call it a win.  That's the American way.

I like Paint It, Black and Fortunate Son as much as the next guy, but I'd prefer not to have another failed US war to get their successors.

I didn't say the trade-off would be worth it (and Paint it Black is fucking awesome).  I said we'll get what we get, and we'll call it a win, no matter how stupid a loss we take.  And even one American life spent on "conquering" a country that doesn't constitute any material threat to us--solely so the "peace president" can simultaneously pretend to be a badass AND distract from his deep relationship with the world's most notorious pedophile--is a fucking loss.
